Video Said to Show Marines Urinating on Taliban Corpses

KABUL, Afghanistan — A video apparently showing four Marines urinating on three dead Taliban fighters was condemned by NATO authorities in Afghanistan and by the Afghan government on Thursday.

“A video recently posted on a public Web site appears to show U.S. military personnel committing an inappropriate act with enemy corpses,” NATO said in a statement. “This disrespectful act is inexplicable and not in keeping with the high moral standards we expect of coalition forces.”

The statement said that the international coalition in Afghanistan “strongly condemns the actions depicted in the video, which appear to have been conducted by a small group of U.S. individuals, who apparently are no longer serving in Afghanistan.”

A Taliban spokesperson told Reuters that despite the shocking nature of the acts depicted in the video, it was unlikely to affect negotiations between the United States and the Taliban on ending the war in Afghanistan. “This is not the first time we see such brutality,” said the spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid. “We know that our country is occupied.”

This is indeed shocking, soldier's job is to kill the enemy, but not humiliate them, and apparently they don't care...

But such actions aren't rare in wars.

While I believe it was dumb to do because it could jeopardize relations, I doubt those gentlemen were humiliated because they were...well... dead.

I am sure those Taliban members have done much worse.

I don't care that our soldiers pissed on someone who tried to kill them, but to do it in front of a camera is a s stupid as you can get. This will only put more Americans at risk of improper treatment when captured.

I suppose this is a subjective thing...
The Marines should not have videotaped this act, and certainly not uploaded to the internet for the World to see...
however I'm hard pressed to label this as a severe form of physical desecration.

I will concede, the Marines were wrong by doing this.
