You could live in Tel Aviv, or the surrounding communities.

hmm yeh that is true. It's like the whole country is populated with people who are perpetually drunk.

On the plus side, they are happy drunks. not mean nasty drunks :D

Why do you think we're a laid back country? Because, at the end of the day, differences aside, we can all sit back and throw back a cold one with our adversaries. Affiliation means nothing.

Tel Aviv doesn't care about kashrut, and there is a notable lack of schmendricks there.

That it is. I loved my visit there and felt quite at home. Outside of the accents and driving on the other side of the road, it felt like I was visiting some part of America I'd never been to before.

Wonderful people and a lovely country. I certainly wouldn't have any qualms about moving there.

The Burra area looks to be quite interesting. Can anyone shed more light on that area?

    Hey Dino,
I see you have a Tennessee flag. I was born and raised there, outside of Knoxville.Still love the state and consider myself still to be Southern. I live in Cali now. Anyhow, I doubt the US would go as severe a direction as you suggest. For one thing, we're going to be too broke to randomly go off fighting wars. My bigger concern is that I don't appreciate the Republican direction of late, using religion as an excuse for government. Secondly, say buy-bye to women's rights because Palin is vehemently against any of them. That and Gay people will lose their rights. Out here in SF, two of my best friends are gay, have partners, and are better model citizens than half the people I know. Yet they can't marry? Screw that. Its that kind of backwardness I'd rather not be a part of.

Anyhow, only 4 more days until election day, and the polls still show Obama doing very well. So my gut feeling is that I won't have to make a drastic decision.

Again- my biggest concern about Australia is that it appears to be fairly expensive. As in 300k houses. I'm a Graphic Designer and it appears that salaries for designers in Australia is quite low in comparison to here. At least in the US, there are lots of regions and cities with a very wide spread in cost. So its still possible to save big in one state, then move to a cheaper one, which has been our plan. Not sure if that's possible in AU.

I think I'd prefer dealing with our dangerous furry anmials like bears, moose, caribou, coyotes, wolves, housecats etc than the scaly and invertebrates that kill people in Australia.

Lovely place, originally called Burra Burra. It was originally known for its copper mining, South Australia imported many copper miners and their families from Cornwall in the UK to Burr and over on the Yorke Peninsula in the so-called "copper triangle" around Moonta. The Cornish legacy of South Australia is celebrated today with the Kernowek Lowender Cornish festival in South Australia.

Burra is a lovelly town, lots of heritage listed buildings including a terraced row of dugout dwellings which were originally used by copper miners but which today are part of Burra's historical legacy.

Nowadays Burra is a regional service area for the several Merino sheep studs which produce South Australian Strongwool merinos. The most famous of the studs are at Mt Bryan and Collinsville, still the producers of the finest strongwool merino rams in the world.

Near Burra is a less well known sheep station called "Rat Castle", it's not that well know because it's the nickname of a sheep station that my colleagues and I gave to it when we used to stay there as guests of the three brothers that ran it. It was called "Rat Castle" because you could be assured that no matter what time of the day, night, season or year you checked in for some tucker, beer and a bed, it would be in complete turmoil

The Inland Taipan - the most venomous land snake in the world - is found in my state. It used to be in a very isolated area but has now moved further south. Luckily it's timid, but even so I only want to see one in a glass display case.

    Which beaches are the best?

How often do you get hurricanes (typhoons, cyclones, whirly-peters), and what are they like?

    Aldinga and Bondi Beach.

Only Darwin really gets those, and there once in a blue moon and usually harmless.

Are people who live in the center of Australia like the people who live in the center of the United States?
