Looks like the ACA will remain an Obama accomplishment in-spite of numerous and a decade long assault on it by Republicans who have unveiled no plan to replace it. Hopefully a President Biden will look at strengthening the law and making it as close to a national universal healthcare program so that America can join the rest of the world in regards to accessibility of healthcare.

I hope we one day see where no family has to choose medical bankruptcy or avoid treatment because the costs are too excessive.

And without the mandate, people can wait until they get sick and then buy insurance for the same cost as a healthy person. Maybe now they’ll work with Joe to fix it.

Republicans keep complaining about Obamacare, but ask them what their party has done to overturn it and they just stare at you like a deer in headlights.

That’s the best part. The Republicans tried to get it killed even though it’s a Republican created policy. Now folks can just sign up when they are sick gets treatment then drop their insurance.

Republicans never had a plan or a willingness to come up a replacement plan.

There was nothing wrong with what we had before Obama.

150 million people will lose their health insurance if we get some government crapola like single payer.

Unfortunately it still requires a “qualifying event” I believe.

That is a strange way of saying 150 million people will no longer need health insurance if we get a national healthcare program — almost no one is advocating for single payer with no outside insurance being available.

While it might have worked great for you, millions were left out of the system or unable to afford coverage, even more were strained due to pre-existing coverage. It is strange the narrative of “I got mine, **** you” — un American even.

From personal experience, health care was a evolving and increasing increasing disaster for several decades.

Millions of people were losing any coverage as well as many large companies were using part-time excuse to eliminate benefits during the 2000 to 2010. That was the motivation for the Republican plan and Obamacare.

That's not what the mandate is for. You can't buy insurance outside the open enrollment period. Unless you have a life changing event (lost your job, moved, got married, ...)

The mandate simply means that if you don't have insurance, you pay a tax (or fine). The tax is meant to help hospitals pay for expenses when freeloaders who refuse to pay insurance were in an accident or went to Emergency. Without the mandate, your taxes pay for all that. Obamacare can operate without the mandate. Just as it has since Trump set it to $0

I believe Obama kept pushing back the start of the penalties as well. I don’t think anyone ever actually got penalized, but yes we all just took over the cost for the irresponsible

I dunno, I like my insurance. I got one of them Cadillac plans. Part of the reason I liked bidens public option plan over Bernie’s plan.

Isn't the seasonal enrollment period still around to force people to sign up for a year of coverage and have to keep it active because there's no option to sign up whenever we want???

You can have the best helath care or best insurance in the world. It doesn't mean shi* if you don't have the health care providers for it. And right now we don't.

So only those deemed worthy by capitalism should have access to these providers!

Which is why we need to promote medical automation as well as help individuals interested in healthcare through the system. One thing ghat would greatly help is a reduction in administrative tasks required by insurance companies. Medical billing and coding takes time away from patient care.
