‘Reparations Happy Hour’ Invites White People to Pay for Drinks

I'm 50% Scandanavian (my great-grandparents moved to New York City 100+ years ago). Do I owe reparations to the English, Scottish, and Irish for the atrocities done by the Vikings?

How far should we take this idiotic idea?

Well, there was no Jim Crow by then. That was after all of the Civil Rights legislation of 1964-65.

Since then, the only discrimination we've had is the reverse discrimination of affirmative action. So maybe blacks owe whites reparations.

You implied exclusivity! So if ones plays your silly game one needs to ask you why Blacks owe "you" or "us" for the benefits of welfare, public housing, and prison. If you did not mean to imply exclusive use of those benefits by Blacks then White, Asian and other races also reaped the benefits of those programs WHY do non Blacks not owe for those benefits?

Should wealthy blacks who have become wealthy off of the system built on their ancestors enslavement pay reparations as well?

 

Back when I was a kid it was well known that every parent wanted his/her kid to do better in life than he/she did, it might not have been said out loud every day, but that thought was there, you could always sense it. These days I don't see parents wanting better lives for their kids like they used to. They just don't.

 

A massive racist policies that came to an end after centuries to than get a little tinkle on a hot plate as reparations is not really equal measures by a long shot, buddy. It's just your reason to have zero reparations paid after such a long lasting injustice was done.

 

Well I can only speak for my own grown kids, who have kids themselves, my grandchildren. And these parents do. But then I raised them the way I was raised, so that has something to do with it. And I have little doubt my grandkids will raise their own kids as they were raised. I hope that tradition never ends. Both of my kids have families who worked hard for their middle class lives, played by the rules, worked hard, and didn't have kids out of wedlock. Not druggies and very responsible people. And unless you have such a foundation, good luck!

 

Unless one pulls oneself up, giving away free money isn't gonna do anything. You have to be motivated, and willing to play by the rules and be very responsible as individuals and we see a huge lack of that with this 13 percent of our population. Not all of them of course, but you don't hear about the success stories, but the other kind of stories. And then these people blame their lack of success on everyone but themselves. A victim culture. It leads nowhere man. Nowhere.

 

Not against white people or males=) Liberals and Democrats don't believe in it. If they did, how could they support affirmative action or this event? Discrimination is situational according to how the left react. An all white organization is racist, yet an all black organization represents pride and celebration. Something like affirmative action is not about giving away free money. It's giving an opportunity where working hard leads to something, unlike working hard at McDonnalds doesn't lead to anything.

Easy. Most of this is garbage so it's easy to deny it.

No it's not hard to move up in this world and live a good life. If you are poor, you'll get a very good free college education if you want it. The reason poor people stay poor is because of the choices they willfully make. You absolutely can not argue otherwise. Nobody forces them to make these choices and tax dollars are readily available to anyone who wants to take advantage of them.

Again, there is absolutely no way to argue that if someone wants to better their position and is willing to work hard, that they still can't because of something that happened years ago.

 

I don't remember the Irish coming to America in chains and as I remember history Irish were mainstreamed into American life or was there an Irish Civil Rights Movement that we missed.
