And yet countries with zero legal access to firearms have much higher murder rates.

Says who? There are plenty of people who need a gun for defense. You cannot defend against a big strong attacker if you are a weak person with your bare hands or protect your family against a group of attackers as a lone person. As for doing destruction with a weapon capable of rapid fire, that is only if you are totally irresponsible in its usage.

No, it isn't. In fact, it is more the opposite: the gun industry relies on support from the members of the NRA. They can make or break a gun company. The gun industry is too tiny to have any real influence regarding the NRA.

Fast & Furious Act Deux worked like a charm. I bet Obama wished he had thought of undermining the background check system for mentally unstable school kids a few years earlier. The Premier only killed one border agent and thousands of Mexicans that, apparently, no one cared about. That the whole thing was blamed on the NRA, who wasn't in attendance, the instant it happened tells the whole story. The Promise Neighborhoods program was guaranteed to put a deadly weapon in the hands of a student who should never have been able to buy anything near as deadly as a set of silverware. It was just a matter of time.

I have never heard a youngster say they didn't want to go to school because they might get shot.

That's nice . They should spend next weekend exploring the streets of Chicago . Strict gun laws there ! Should be utopia for these poor kids . They can tell us all about it ...

I agree that the future is there's and since I'm nearly 70 I watch this stuff with interest but I really don't have a dog in the fight. I do have an opinion though and in my opinion these children are being used by the anti gun lobby and are easy fodder for the left that seems to be gaining control of America. It looks to me like in twenty years America may be an entirely different country and yet another fallen empire. It doesn't take long to happen as evidenced by the fall of Britain which went from the most powerful country in the world to a country that couldn't even defend itself from Germany in a few short years. In 1915 three out of five people in the world were British subjects and they had the world's largest navy but by 1940 they were begging the US for help to fight off an attack by a punk ass named Hitler.

Most guns in America are hunting guns or pistols though. My guess is most guns in the aforementioned countries are full fledged military weapons

That's totally untrue. Most are hunting guns. In Spain, automatic weapons are banned for private citizens. That is common in most places.

I was listening to some of them yesterday. I didn't know if it was one of my proudest moments or one of my saddest. This morning I realize it can be both.

At least I agree with one of the points. Voting them out is a good idea. But you voters need to vote all of them out. Until we get a single term limit, politicians will ignore our interests in favor of their own.

Sorry but the lives of kids are threatened by murderers, not hobbies. Before there were gun laws, there were no school shootings. The culprit is a damaged culture. Figure out how to fix the culture and you will do some serious good for society. Emotions slings and arrows won't fix anything.

People who have no interest in guns don't want anyone to have them. How childish.

Stick to your guns. Those liberals have a nasty agenda. If it was about guns, they would've sorted out cities like Chicago and Detroit long time ago, They've been in power over there for 3 or 4 decades. I mean really in power. Full control of local governments, full control of police etc... Results?

Hehe I knew this one was coming, you are as a wrong person can be. It's not allowed to have an automatic assault weapon in Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia still every house hold I know have at least 1 or 2 Zastava M70 well oiled waiting for trouble times. The numbers you have are the ones registered, pistols and small arms. Heck even my uncle has 3 M70s waiting to be used if necessary. I would with confidence say that we have more weapons per house hold than US. But of course if you want to rely on Wikipedia be my guest. Anyone who knows anything about the Balkans would know that I am right,

There have been gun laws about as long as there have been guns. Are you trying to get by on a technicality with that statement?

I just spent 3 months in Belgrade, so I know a bit about Serbia. But these are facts I, as a visitor, would not know. Glad I got out of there without having to deal with anyone with a gun. However, it is a different situation from the US. We have not had a war on our land since the Civil War, which ended over 150 years ago. People don't have weapons left over from that, which I suppose is what most of those guns you mention are. And we aren't afraid of civil war either. It's an extremely different situation. Your people are probably just happy to have survived the war and to get on with life. The young men in this country need a gun to prove they are men and they take out their anger, insecurities, and vengence on innocent people.
