With no knowledge of the subject you are lecturing me on what happened back then?

You're right - guns aren't the problem, but the problem is not the whole society. It's the young people who are gunning each other down.

What these kids should be doing is demanding better behavior out of themselves. The generations that preceded them had access to guns but they didn't shoot each other up in their schools.

However, these kids don't want to address what's wrong with them - blame is better to give than receive - and the Leftists who are astroturfing these protests only care about their gun control fetish.

Aside from trying to do a better job of protecting these kids from themselves, I can't help but agree with you, doc.

When it comes to subjects as complex as our natural and constitutional rights, why should we mind the opinions of children who say that they are too immature to handle firearms in a lawful and responsible manner? This Children's Crusade has become so absurd I'm beginning to see the wisdom in Glenn Reynolds' suggestion that we should raise the voting age to 21. If these children want to be treated like children, like they are with their safe spaces on our nation's college campuses, then perhaps we should give them what they're asking for.

    We don't? Why not?
Aren't we told gun-related violent crime is so bad here we need to enact further limits on the rights of the law abiding.
If it is indeed that bad, why don't we need a gun for protection?
Why do you choose to remain ignorant about firearms?

I applaud your bravery and willingness to put your ignorance on display.
The NRA -- all three parts of it -- are non-profit.

You claimed that gun control began in 1968 and that school shootings did not happen before that. Both of those are false.

So there goes your shotguns. Do you at least think people should be allowed to own BB guns?

The NRA profits from the hysteria from gun grabbers after they insist on not letting any crisis go to waste. Hogg is the best recruitment person the NRA ever had. I'm sure the makers of ARs are also thanking him.

I did. It's your turn to counter with your own "proof". Even though it was your own false and baseless assertion to begin with.

    Prob right about gun laws.

I looked at a old NRA mag. It was from 1958. Anyone could buy a long gun by mail order with no questions asked. For mail order pistols they asked for a signed paper stating you were 21.

BTW, the biggest gun dealer in the US was Golden State Arms in Pasadena.

I don't need to prove it. I lived it. You are arguing something you don't like without even having the knowledge to do so.

Wouldn't the National Firearms Act of 1934 count as the first federal gun control? I see plenty of school shootings, but not the mass killing type. They all seemed to be revenge or having a fight against a particular person.

The one that restricted the requirements and system to buy guns was the Gun Control Act of 1968. It is the law that created the registration of guns and gun purchases. In 1934 they dealt with machine guns and short barrelled guns to address the scourge of organized crime. It didn't really affect normal Americans. And, it didn't prevent criminals from using machine guns and short barrelled shotguns.

The 1968 law created some bureaucracy and some hassle for legal gun owners but, as we all know, it had no effect on the criminal use of firearms.

No mass shootings in schools. That is a modern day phenomenon. The law can't fix the school shooting problem. It is a cultural problem. The more we waste time on gun control, the less time we spend on better parenting, smart discipline for young people and the mental health infrastructure we had in 1968.

With all due respect, you have to have logged as many years as I have to have been through the whole track to where we are today. We are frustrated and we really don't know how to fix it. First we have to understand what caused it. Guns didn't cause it.
