I really do not know why you would describe my Blue Cross/Blue Shield as "bogus health insurance." (It is a PPO--which means, essentially, that it drastically cuts the "Submitted Charges," and instead gives me a negotiated charge--which is just a fraction of the former. And then it pays 85 percent of that.)

If you are over 65 and still insured by BCBS totally, someone is paying three times as much as they should or I’m getting my leg pulled. You’re not making sense or hiding something. I don’t care. But pretending a BCBS is a better deal then Medicare when you qualify for it, isn’t reality.

No, BC/BS is not my secondary healthcare insurance. It is my only healthcare insurance. (One exception: I do also have Medicare for hospitalization--but not for the doctors' bills attendant to it.)

Medicare would certainly not be "a better deal," as I see it. For one thing, it pays only 80 percent of the negotiated charges--whereas BC/BS pays 85 percent of them.

Moreover, I really do not miss the money that goes to BC/BS, as I do not pay for it directly: It is subtracted from the annuity left by my late wife; but since I have never seen it, I do not miss it. (It is about $225 per month--much less, I believe, than Medicare is.)

Note: You still did not address the fact that Medicare pays only 80 percent (leaving 20 percent for the patient to pay), as opposed to 85 percent with BC/BS (leaving only 15 percent to be paid).

YES for individual coverage and ....if you qualify for full SS benefits which I assume you do. It obviously depends how long you’ve been paying into SS/Medicare insurance. What are you doing, wasting all those years of your payroll tax ? Plus, Medicare is more portable....you don’t seem to care you’re pissing your money away. Obviously buying in without paying payroll tax is expensive.....but you claim you did !
