Yup...and I also had that sick feeling that these were "funny-mentalist" Christibans myself.
Did you know that the head of security for Pantex (the nation's primary nuclear weapons manufacture and assembly plant) was an
"End of the World/Armageddon" self styled pastor who also ran a quasi-paramilitary group called "Repent Amarillo"?

When he wasn't guarding our nation's nuke manufacturing, he'd take his "army" (who dressed in fatigues and who were armed and equipped with high tech gadgetry) around to all the bars and social outlets in Amarillo and stalk the customers. They also focused on the handful of comic book and bookstores, and when they found out that there were a couple of regular "swingers" gatherings in town, Repent Amarillo shifted into overdrive. They started taking down license plates and contacting employers, threatening people at work and at their homes.
And he was a major advocate of closing down all of the "godless public schools in Texas" and returning to an era where the church did all the teaching. His main sermons were always about the end times and Armageddon.

When he got fired from Pantex, he started hanging around the local shopping mall and harassing children who were going to see Santa. I am not exaggerating in the least.
It's not that there's something inherently wrong with pointing out that Christmas is really about Jesus, it's the fact that he feels entitled to stand there loudly condemning parents in public who just want to have a happy holiday celebration with their children.

Whatever it was, condemning parents who took kids to see Santa, people who liked comic books, adults who wanted to have a little hanky panky, people who wanted to have a drink, kids who wanted to hear rock and roll music, or people who liked public schools, David Grisham felt it was his job to bully people and get in their faces if he didn't think their lives fit his visions.

 

Someone already implied that just now, and is trying to imply that the Turpins MUST be liberals because "all the homeschoolers HE knows are lefty granola eaters".

 

Or he might just get lucky and run into a judge like THIS one in Texas!

I think that home schoolers are on both ends from borderline extreme to extreme.

I have no dog in that hunt and if this ends up true, torture, etc, naturally the parents need Democrat type loving and therapy. sort of like how it works for illegal aliens.

Not as odd as you'd think. When I was around ten, my mom made friends with a woman named Mary. Nice type, always treated my sister and I nicely, sometimes gave us presents for no reason. Eternally single, steady job. She was always over at our house. One time my sister and I asked if we could visit her at her place and she politely said no, she didn't like having guests over as the place was small. We accepted that explanation at face value and never considered it again. Fast forward about twenty-plus years, and Marce dies. Mom is still pretty much her only friend at that point and is the executor of her will. Gets the keys from the guy who runs the condo or somesuch and can't believe what she sees when she opens the door - huge amounts of trash piled up so high she has to climb over them and crawl like she was inside a tunnel to get inside. Piles of trash and such inside - the woman was a major hoarder. And, this was before the word "hoarder" had even entered public awareness - there was no real way at the time to describe what was going on in her head that anyone could account for. The place was so unsanitary it was unbelievable how a clean-cut looking woman like Mary could crawl out of there every day. Thing is, her neighbors never knew. Mom never knew. Apparently NO ONE knew. So yeah - not so unbelievable to me.

Heck, the same kind of thing happened near my neck of the woods a few years ago - a superintendent was busted for running a pit-bull fighting and selling ring out of her own home, and the place was filthy when the cops busted it - yet by all accounts no one nearby suspected anything either.

I doubt the individual states played a role either, but I think the point he was making was that California - and I've lived here for awhile - has done some pretty unusual things when it comes to sentencing. While my personal feeling is that these guys are gonna get the maximum sentences possible and that even the whackadoodles here don't take too kindly to child abuse, you can never be too sure sometimes here in Crazyfornia.

 

Ay, why have prisons or schools or roads? Why isn't the legal inspection of 'schools' part of God's plan though?
