"CANCUN, Mexico – Violence rocked Mexico’s most popular tourist town, leaving 14 dead and five more injured in a 36-hour span, Noticaribe reports.

The deaths and injuries were the result of six separate incidents between the morning of April 4 and the evening of April 5.

Nine people were killed on April 4 alone.

The killings are thought to be linked to organized crime.

On Tuesday, a judge ordered cartel “queenpin” Leticia Rodriguez Lara, known as “Doña Lety” to stand trial on multiple charges including drug trafficking, according to the Associated Press.

Believed to be a former police officer with ties to El Chapo, Lara’s crew allegedly mounted a bloody campaign to take control of drug sales in Cancun and Playa del Carmen.
    "

I don't know too much more about this, but if you're planning a trip to Mexico for Spring Break, you may want to reconsider.

Put a rush on that wall and get all those soldiers down to the border.

I'd sooner slam my stones in a desk drawer before I'd ever set foot in that 3rd world shithole.

Mexico needs to fix it's coastal playgrounds but fast. It's a good source of money for them, but I know I won't go there for a few years. I've never stayed there, but have been there (and nearby Cozumel) from cruise ships before. I wouldn't schedule one of those trips now.

Worst experience of my life was going to the DMV in Hemet. I'd have rather been back in Iraq.

I don't blame you. You couldn't melt and pour me in Mexico, especially over the past decade.

I just got back from a week in Cabo San Lucas. You nervous Nellies who are afraid of Mexico are missing some great times.

But then, you make it less crowded for me. Was there for a week last November and loved it. Am going back in June to participate in an offshore fishing tournament. Am thinking about spending a lot of time for the rest of my life in a small town 40 mile north of Cabo called Todo Santos.

What's sad, is that area has gorgeous water, and cool pyramids to explore. It's too bad the Mexicans can't at least keep their tourist areas safe.

Ugh. I thought the one in Temecula was bad until they started closing them down for renovations and had to go to Hemet.

The only thing missing from the line around the building was chickens running around everywhere and a complimentary crack truck.

And guns are almost impossible for an average citizen to get there.

Timely thread, as we've been considering a trip to Mexico. We were looking at Cozumel and Cancun. It sounds like Cozumel might be a better choice? (Or maybe we should look into Cabo?)

The BVI is our favorite, but we were thinking somewhere closer and cheaper, just for a week, hence Mexico.

No doubt. California (southern) has given itself over to Mexico.

Been to all inclusives in Playa and Cancun many times. Each time was fantastic, safe and relaxing. Can’t wait for my next vacation.

Ah, yeah, nervous about going to Cancun after 14 American tourists were killed by Mexicans over a 36 hour period. How damn silly of anyone to be cautious about that place.
