Another Great moment in Republican Party History.
On this day in 1863 Republicans freed the slaves.

    Republicans rejoiced. Democrats cursed.
    Grand Old Partisan reported:

On New Year’s Day in 1863, the Republican Party’s Emancipation Proclamation(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emancipation_Proclamation) came into effect. While Republicans rejoiced, Democrat politicians and newspapers denounced President Abraham Lincoln (R-IL) for freeing slaves.

Demonstrating their depravity, New York’s Gov. Horatio Seymour, who would be the 1868 Democrat presidential nominee, denounced the Emancipation Proclamation as “a proposal for the butchery of women and children.” The Louisville Daily Democrat called it “an outrage of all constitutional law, all human justice, all Christian feeling.”

Hmm..., Now why was this anniversary date seemingly forgotten by Obama and his Progressive friends? Could it be because they were originally behind the Civil War that split the nation?

Lincoln and the Republicans were the progressives of their day. Conservatives fought against him and freeing the slaves.

If the country had played it's card right, maybe everyone would be slaves.

They freed the slaves.....in the South.

Somehow the Republicans forgot that many slaves were in the North.

They also burned, destroyed, robbed, and raped The South.

That's why The South was solidly Democrat until the 1960s, because they would never forget that horror that the Republicans brought down upon them.

I wonder why that Party has devolved (so much) where it concerns showing compassion, mercy, grace and reconciliation to the ancestors of those who were freed? :(

Jews were also forced out of parts of The South during the war, thanks to this Republican administration.

I'd be interested in hearing about some of the other directions. Tell me about The West and The East.

If the country had played its cards right, the US government would have just bought every slave and freed them.

Wrong comparison. The Nazi's in 1937, the Bolsheviks of 1903, the Taliban in 1993, the Chinese Communist Party of 1949, were the "progressives" of their day. Lincoln and the Republicans of the 1860's don't fit into the "progressive" category.

    sure they do.

being anti-slavery was the Progressive stance of the time.

You mean over $1Trillion in reconciliation payments (commonly known as affirmative action, welfare, and various other forms of govt mandated wealth redistribution) and 50 years of reverse discrimination are not enough?

Too bad the party has abandoned their progressive roots and became the party of the former Dixiecrats who wanted segregation.

Don't even bother. So many rubes out there have bought into Conservative revisionist history that they've convinced themselves that the KKK was/is a bunch of liberals who used to lynch Conservatives :roflol: The misinformed lemmings should just remain misinformed.

Funny, as the Republicans were the main force against a national Martin Luther King holiday.

Well that is the whackiest right wing anti-Obama theory I have heard.

What makes you believe that Obama was behind the Civil War? Do you believe that Nancy Pelosi was involved too?

Hmmm you seem to think that the title 'progressive' just means anyone who you don't agree with.

One thing I always like to point out- that the Democratic Party was the party of the Confederacy.

Everytime you see a redneck driving a pickup truck with the stars and bars flag on it, you are seeing someone who supports the Democratic Party Confederate States of America.

Everyone knows the Republican Party used to be liberal. Stop trying to claim credit, the conservatives of the day were the ones opposing them. So no, conservatives didn't do the country any favours.

Conservative racists were fighting to preserve slavery, even if it meant destroying our great nation.

Like I enjoy pointing out- the Confederate States were created by Democrats and run by Democrats...

    Jeff Davis
after leaving the military, Davis became a cotton farmer while preparing for a career in politics as a Democrat. In 1843, he participated in the gubernatorial campaign and served as a delegate at the Democratic National Convention. His powerful speeches there placed him in high demand
