Closing ceremonies? They should just call it "America's Victory Lap".

Except it was about GB and friends all over the world.

You weren't here to ruin the happy feeling the smart folks shared during the closing ceremony. However, thread now dead.

You would really have disappointed me with any response other than that.

Which means you are bang on form today.

Kinda like the typical drivel that you spew on this forum? Ya, you're pretty predictable.

Fair enough, but at least give the horse a medal.

Artificial? You can have muscle and not be on steroids. And if women like that are more muscular than men, then we have a problem with men in society. I work very hard for my body and athleticism, and I know these women work harder for theirs. Doesn't make us any less xx. If you're all about women doing right, celebrate their accomplishments. These chicks are badasses.

Yeah, dressage is beautiful. I particularly liked when that horse was prancing and then took a dump. Such lovely animals...

    And historically? Yes.

I caught the Spain/Korea match, so I didn't see any of France's showings. Do you play? Do you guys have intramural leagues?

Handball looks like fun. You quoted my post about the AF's version called "flickerball" or "(*)(*)(*)(*)er-ball" or something stupid. They took handball, stripped it of anything respectable and renamed it. And I swear the rules change every time it is played. Why do the Koreans look like they're mad all of the time? Because if they don't win, they don't eat.

Just figured out why our athletes do well, they become millionaires in the 1 percent if they win, so its capitalism that makes our olympians out perform the other countries.

If chinese athletes win, do they get their faces on the wheaties cereal? No, our athletes have the motivation of greed from the corporations, while chinese athletes have the motivation of fear from their government.

It appears that greed wins over fear in the present medal count.

I'm not sure what are intramural leagues. I googled it and it seems to be related to colleges/universities. We do have school & university leagues but the most famous are the city leagues I think. I only played for a few weeks as a young teen but found the contacts on the field a tad too tough for my sensibilities.

Well, the close out ceremony was different. But, overall London did a pretty good job hosting the games.

    Good job limeys.

Can't believe my country did so badly lol, although we got a lot of silver. If our idiot athletes didn't sook everytime they came second, and were just happy with what they got...

Anyway, this thread is being unstuck because the Games are over!

All the way through that I wondered if he'd say the original 'life's a piece of......' line at such an occasion, and he did. Good for him!

Apparently it was going to be bleeped out for US TV. How silly! The NBC censors apparently weren't quick enough for it on the live stream though!

Not a bad musical ending overall, although I could really have done without Jessie J murdering 'We Will Rock You' - seemed a bit daft to use her to sing it when George Michael was there (his second song was dreadfully dull, though)! Still a shame there was no recognition of the UK being the birlhplace of heavy metal, which (whether people like it or not) has been a pretty major, and very worldwide, musical force for the last 40 years. Why didn't we get a bit of Iron Maiden, or Black Sabbath, or someone like that represented somehow in the in the ceremony? Before anyone says it, no Queen and Muse certainly don't count as 'heavy metal' at all (although I did enjoy the Muse performance alot, even though I'm not normally a fan).

Why would you have the Kaiser Chiefs doing 'Pinball Wizard' when The Who were playing?!! That seemed an odd decision - why not pick a Rolling Stones number or something?

Can't stick that Jessie J. Why they keep letting her on is a mystery. I thought she murdered every bit of it. George Michael is past it. I thought the same about the Who and where were the Rolling Stones? You'd think they might've dragged them out, though I didn't watch the whole thing so for all I know they might have been there at some point. I think Mick Jagger's daughter was in the fashion bit. I like Muse, they are quality despite being associated with commercialised vampires.

I took the Queen racket as representative of our input to metal, but like you I don't consider them real metal and don't much appreciate their music to begin with. It was quite ethereal how old Freddie got to be there, even though he's long gone.

John Lennon's Imagine though...never loses its power really.

And even Jessie J's Price Tag is in the spirit of the games, although she's annoying as...

And Iron Maiden are, of course, a band from East London, too, and one of the world's biggest selling acts, having reputedly sold around 100 million records (that's a few more than Jessie J, I reckon!) in a 30+ year career, and also one of the top live acts in the world. There's even a sporting link, aside from the bassist's football obsession - the lead singer has represented Britain at fencing, although not at the Olympics. They would seem an obvious shoe-in for the ceremony, but despite some internet campaigns and so on in support of the idea, apparently (alledgedly) they weren't asked to participate.

They even have a sporting song to play!

    I know.

How many hours of adverts did NBC show during the 3 hour closing? It was only for three hours, you realise?

    Me?

I thought the whole event was spectacular. And not just from the athletes point of view.

It must have been a logistical nightmare yet it was carried off without incident. From a Canadian TV point of view, they were impressed by the volunteer force that directed spectators to the stadium, not from just outside of it but from all places on route.

A good 17 days of entertainment for me.

The ceremonies were absurd, embarrassing and blatant cultural Marxist propaganda. Multi-Kulti brainwash that Leni Riefenstahl would have been proud of. I've never seen the left so brazen before, it was as if they were sticking two fingers up at British history. Black industrialists in Victorian Britain (chuckle) / the mixed race children that the camera's kept focusing in on / celebration of a health service where old people are left to die. The most sinister thing is that the sheep praise this total unreality as being normal and positive.

Flickerball is more a combination of football, hockey and basketball at least as I remember it. The rules are intentionally obtuse. I think they still play it
at the AF Academy and squadron officer school.

    Final Medal Count
    #1. United States
    46 Gold
    29 Silver
    29 Bronze

    Toal = 104

Do you guys have community leagues? Like some clubs that play it for fun in Paris? I'm going to check locally where I'm at to get something started.

No (*)(*)(*)(*)ing clue, but I was pretty cheesed off when I saw they broke it up with another show in between. The Mr. and I were going to watch it until that BS.

I didn't understand it then and I don't now. I'm sure it's one of those things that was awesome closer to the activity's inception and has gotten more and more retarded as the years have gone on. Like everything else.

    Don't brag.
