Laura Ingraham thinks the dems will lose control of the house in 2020 just after 2 years. I don't see how, because usually their base turns out in presidential years. Does Trump being on the ballot really motivate the conservative base too?
I think its likely that democrats will sweep the house, senate, and presidency in 2020 and redraw districts in their favor. But conservatives will control the Supreme Court for decades.
Well if Ginsberg doesn't die or retire, they will probably reelect a SC justice to replace her, they could vote to stack the SC though, I mean it wouldn't surprise me. They felt that got screwed over Merrick Garland.
Ingraham is crazy. Your point is valid about increased Dem Turnout in Pres. Election Years. The Dems are in a position to GAIN seats in the House.
I thought the Kavenaugh hearings would have worked against the Democrats gaining the House, but it certainly did not. Next Reaction What if it were a fair election with no ballot harvesters or third parties allowed to carry someone's ballot. Does anyone believe the O.C. would be totally Blue in a true and fair election? The occurrence of ballot harvesting is illegal in many States but, allowed in California.
Not nevessarily If dems have complete control as you predict they will immediately expand the number of unelected judges on the supreme courtt And all the new seats will be filled by democrats
Dems had control of the government for decades and they never did this. I don't think stuffing the Supreme Court is a popular move.
Which could not be as devastating as the left and right believes. Most of the right leaning justices are originalists. Meaning that they rather the Congress fix the laws not the courts. Democrats have had an easy course going to the courts. The left needs to fix social problems in Congress.
Laura Ingraham has not yet figured out her feelings on Donald Trump. Ingraham has already had to put her ideals aside.
A lot depends on what the Democratic controlled house does or doesn't do between now and election day. But that may not matter as much as whom the Democrats nominate to face Trump in 2020. We seen independents who voted for Republican congressional candidates from 2010 through 2016 switch to Democratic congressional candidates in 2018 by a 54-42 margin. In 2016 independents voted for Republican congressional candidates 51-47 and in 2014 54-42 Republican. I don't see that changing much in 2020. The Democratic Party is still the larger party, has the larger base, so the Republicans must win the independent vote. I don't see them doing so. The main reason is Trump. Unless the Democrats nominate another candidate as disliked by independents as Hillary was, there is no way the GOP takes back the house. Throw in the fact that Trump's stock has dropped big time among independents since he was inaugurated is another factor as to why the GOP won't take back the house. Trump has seen his favorable/unfavorable ratings among independents drop from 44/41 favorable/unfavorable at the end of January 2017 down to 38/53 at the end of January 2019. This drop was seen in how independents voted in the 2018 midterms. So unless the democrats come up with a candidate independents dislike as much as Trump, there is no way the GOP takes back the house. There is no way Trump win reelection either, unless the democrats go with another Hillary Clinton type candidate. Then all bets are off.
They won't because once they open that door then the republicans will just do it again once they are back in power. Just like they did with the nuclear option. This is why the democrats voted against it last time it was tried by FDR.
If democrat dreams come true republicans will never have power again Libs are tired of republicans and the republic you and I love and respect
Well that isn't possible. Even dictatorships and Kings fall eventually. I don't imagine the democrats will last on their own very long. Since they only exist because of someone to hate, when they no longer have that they will disappear.
I know Thanks for pointing that out The court was conservative and overruled many FDR New Deal programs So he wanted to add more judges that he wpuld nominate But he didnt have the votes in congress
Well, it's not illegal to expand the supreme court. I don't think 9 seats is the only number allowed. I'm just saying they could, because they felt screwed by the senate not giving Garland a hearing.
Actually the dems could expand the number of lower court judges and pack them with lefties also And they probably will if they take total power in 2020 It will be the end of two-party government on America
I think this is a symptom of the problem that it is too hard to amend the constitution. I'd say that supermajorities should be enough. Also, these should be enough to over-rule a Supreme Court decision.
That would be a good change to the Constitution Give congress the same ability to overrule the unelected demigods on the SC that they do for a presidential veto
