With the new year approaching I figure I'd start this now. Anyone hitting some tourny's this coming year? Several schedules on the circuit are popping up and I expect to hit it hard this summer. Any online players here?
I used to be hardcore into it, mostly online and a couple Florida casinos. 99% cash games. the neteller crash shut me down in a hurry. we occasionally get a local game together but its low limit stuff now 1/2 no $200 buy in. back when we were hit & heavy it was 5/10 I honestly have never tried to do a legit circut tournament, but I've always wanted to. just not sure I have the patience and stamina for a multi day. I'm used to 3-4 hour sessions max.
I used to play PartyPoker, PokerStars, and FullTilt...er too much. I swear they shut them down because our political leaders kept getting caught playing on C-Span!!! I miss the games a lot. I took money off, but never once played with a nickel out of my own pocket. I played freerolls, win $25 and play $5 sit n go's, win $250 and go play a $100 game! Bankroll management is key!! I played Hold'em and Omaha mostly, how about y'all,?
Holden myself, we did blend in Omaha when we played at home, but I avoided it at the casinos myself, Omaha was my weak link. I miss the days on full tilt and ultimate bet. i do miss the online scene, but so much time wasted. still a regular watcher if wsop, anyone else?

I played online until Black Friday. I had over $13K seized which I got back about 8 months later. I come from a poker family. My Uncle, nearing his 80's is one of the best players in the South and has some big wins. My mother paid for 1/2 my college with her poker play and I picked up the other 1/2. My biggest win was back in 2005 with Paradise Poker. I took 2nd in their Masters 3 tournament ($165K). It started online and then they froze the table after 11 hours of play when we had the final 10. They flew us to Tahiti a month later to play it out. I would have won the whole thing, but the final hand, I had a read on my opponent (his calf quivered - he was wearing shorts and I could see it) when he was on a big hand. I had A3 and he bluffed all in. Now, in retrospect, I was grinding him down, but I knew I had the best hand and made the call. He turned over K9 and proceeded to make hit two pair right on the flop and it was pretty much over. I should have waited for a better spot, but that crap happens when you have been playing 12 hours straight live. I still play small stakes online at Ignition Poker, but mostly play in the brick and mortars of SoCal. My favorite place is Hawaiian Gardens. I have a **** ton of poker stories and if you ever want to talk about strategy, hidden tells that I can share or more let me know. Oh... my favorite player is Ted Forrest. He's a bit old school, but his play and reads are often flawless.
So I was in an online game one night. I got moved on to a new table, and had to wait for the blind to come around. The fella sitting across from me was giving a great Matusow impersonation, wouldn't shut up. He was, he declared, going to own us b*tches. I figured he was either well into his cups or his schtick was a strategy. I was in position, so I bumped up the blind and came on in. He sparked off something in my direction and called me. The flop came Q88. He raised and it came to me. I just sat there. He said play b****. Just as I was about to timeout, I called. The turn came and he raised again. I let the clock run. And again he said c'mon, play b****. I called. And then the river. He made a sizable raise. I let the clock run. And he went off, all caps PLAY... I pushed the slider to all in and waited on the word... B*TCH!... Bam! And he sat. Just as the timer ran down, he called my all in and showed his Q8. I showed him my pocket Qs! And the table erupted! 'Hee haw hee haw hee haw!' 'Who's the b**** now?' He left his last three chips. Most fun hand evah!
Yes- we should catch up. I'm heading to Vegas at the end of June for two tournies. Had one this past weekend, made the final 18 which was nice.
I play poker it is game in which the most active thing you do is shuffle cards. And in tournaments you don't even do that. Poker is no more a sport than competitive gaming is a sport. You are literally just sitting in a chair.
Why do the same people make it to the final table? What are your thoughts on table positioning? Stamina? What's the longest Tourny you've played in? Clearly you've never played in a deep stack, or even a sit and go tourny if that is what you "believe".
Real nice. I find the cash games in Las Vegas (not during the WSOP) to be very profitable. A lot of low skilled players sit at those tables throughout Vegas and give you $.
lol... yeah... I played WSOP and got to the 3rd day in the Main. It was the only time I did the main. I have played other events and cashed, but not many. I get busy in June on business. I can imagine going all the way and how tired I would be. I played a final table in Tahiti where the rest of the tournament was played online and then frozen for that final table a month later. It was an 12 hour grind at the final table. I think I got 2nd place due to being tired. I had my opponent on the ropes, had a good read for the whole tournament win, and went with it... he caught and that was the end. If I had thought more about it and been less tired. I would have folded that damn hand and grinded my opponent into the dirt slowly. It would have likely taken another 2 hours. It cost me about $30K in the difference between 1st and 2nd. We made a deal when we heads up. We combined 1st and 2nd place total prize money took out $30K and played for that extra. We both saw the delta between 1st and 2nd too great and liked the arrangement. We were near even in chips.
That still does not make it a sport. It is not athletic. By this all the kids sitting in the basement are athletes engaged in a sport. Who would have know that the kids on the chess team are jocks. I am definitely not saying that there is not skill and or knowledge needed for professional poker players, but I am not buying into the "sport" part of poker.
I am sugg that poker is not a sport. Truly not concerned enough to be one those people who run to the moderators. Over petty stuff.
I'm terrible at poker. I can't track things or read people, so have no clue who may have what cards. I bluff/raise til I hit my limit or everyone else does, regardless what cards I have. And I'm not very lucky...
Well, you're honest. lol First, stop playing ole granny limit poker. Ha! Only play from position until ya get your feet under you. And never call...if ya like your hand, raise, find out how good it is...or muck and wait for a better hand. Others will have good tips, better than me, I'm a small timer.
