Here is the flaw in your argument Questerr:

You argue that a wall won't work because where there is a will there is a way and it will simply create a willful temptation to sneak in, or create a black market for getting people into the country illegally.

If we decide to let in 100000 immigrants, what happens to the 100001st guy? Will he sneak in, or solicit black market help? What if we decide to let in 500000? What about the 500001st guy? And so on and so on. Unless we let everyone in (open borders, essentially) those who don't make the cut may still try to sneak in or solicit black market help -- which is why you see support for the wall, better border security, etc.

Our welfare system could not handle an endless flood of impoverished immirants. We need standards, and we need to enforce the laws (a border wall would help with enforcement.) Among other things, the minute an immigrant or "asylum seeker" applied for welfare, I'd send him back to where he came from.

 

Maybe thats exactly what we should allow to happen, then stand back and watch them eat each other.

Wouldn’t have to be too different than they are now for student and work visas, just lower the artificially inflated fees the government charges for them.

I could be wrong, but my impression is that a great many of those crossing illegally now are not students and may or may not be seeking work, but the majority are seeking welfare.

 

A good number of them are actually refugees seeking asylum.

But I don’t get how this meme works for the Right. You can’t simultaneously claim illegals are coming here to take American jobs and claim illegals are coming here so they don’t have to work. Pick one.

 

Most conservatives support merit based immigration where only the best and brightest with needed skills are given a green card

But not the Come-One-Come-All liberal immigration policy

 

There are at least 2 billion people in the world in desperate conditions

We cant be expected to destroy our own country trying to help them

 

Without a wall we have to have eyes on the entire border. With a wall we need less eyes where the wall is and can focus where there is no wall. The El Paso border wall/fence reduced illegals entering this country by 93%.

Also, it takes time to hop over a wall, it can be done en masse, and once we're alerted they can't hop back over en masse, either. There is no down side to a wall, none. And knowing that wall is there, how many lives will be saved by people not even trying to come here and they won't die in the desert or be murdered by coyotes.

 

Hold on a second; Trump promised that Mexico would pay for the wall and he'd reassured us that he could make them do it. What's he waiting for?
