What "lens"? The "times" were that we still had the same articles of confederation that we have today.

Your trying to play a game of semantics that is a red herring. Like it or not, to "secede" meant that they had armed insurrection against the United States government. There is no "there...there" in trying to justify that. The confederate states tried to destroy the United States, there is no way you can spin that to mean anything other than what is was. Secession meant destroying the union of the states

So please explain to me how that is any different than what Timothy McVeigh did ?

No, pursuing impeachment isn't rebellion as long as it follows the constitution, the democrats haven't even tried to actually pursue it because they know they don't have the votes and probably never will.

I don't remember Hillary trying to contest the election. She basically gave up, wandered the woods, and then immediately started planning for 2020.

    What horse manure.
Statutes honoring TRAITORS - erected by LOSERS to thumb their noses at blacks are hardly for our common good.
Bigots will get over it, and if they don't, tough.

i.e. you got nothing right ?

There is nothing to understand. Your playing a game of semantics to try to prove a point. And your point is false in the first place, so the semantics game is an exercise in futility

One clear difference between the two, is that to my recollection, McVeigh wasn't acting on orders from any organized group, in a war.

I understood his actions were a type of counter punch to Governmental actions at Ruby Ridge, & Wacco.

The thing about wars is that you can lose them. Our records of winning hasn't been that good since WWII, 72 years ago.

Where will it stop, will mobs invade people's homes and destroy anything they find offensive? Will they start ramming cars and trucks who have confederate bumper stickers on them? Is the American flag next? When will the black race stop being victims and stop blaming everything and everyone for their problems.

But the left is trying to protest him out of office, I remember nothing like this when Obama won.

    I understand that.

I am pointing out their motives. Both very much the same

They would have been traitors to their states had they not defended them from invasion and in those historical times your first allegiance was to your STATE.

They have made no attempt to get him out of office, they have only been protesting him, which is something that yes the right very much did to Obama for 8 full year. But what can you expect, if you strongly disagree with the current president wouldn't you oppose him and hope he loses the next election?

Stop with the "those times". We had the very same articles of confederation at that time that we have today.

Its been amazing to watch the right spin to try to defend the indefensible. It started out about "slavery, and everyone owned slave back then", to when it was pointed out that this was about so much more than slavery, and more about armed insurrection against the United States government that the right has started stuttering with their..."but it was, but it was, but, but , but".

Celebrating the south as "hero's" is a huge stretch for me because of what they represented, and more over, what they did. They forcibly tried to destroy the United States of America. And when put in context of their motives, they are no different then the Timothy McVeighs of today

Clown Tim Kane just suggested on national TV that one of Virginia's statues in 'Statuary Hall' be replaced by a statue of Pocahontas........that would be the statue of Robert E. Lee. I'm sure Virginia's other contribution, George Washington, will be replaced soon by a bust of aspiring astronaut Trayvon Martin whose career was cut short by a racist......

You are correct in that the USA has not won the wars of imperialistic terrorism it has imposed since that time. But then, these atrocious acts of political criminality were not conducted to win those wars. Instead, they were fought to generate billions in profits for the military industrial complex.

Soon enough Trump will start another one for the same reason and these deluded right wingers will support his imperialistic treason.

It's a good thing we had the Civil War because it made us all Americans instead of backwoods local rats.

Another one bites the dust! This time it's KC.

"Vandalized Confederate monument in KC will be removed soon, park officials say

After much hubbub — and an act of vandalism — a Confederate monument at 55th Street and Ward Parkway in Kansas City will be removed.

The Missouri Division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy asked Kansas City Parks and Recreation officials to remove the monument from its current location to a place of safety.

Another one is gone, this time at Duke University.

"Duke University removes contentious Confederate statue of Robert E. Lee days after it was vandalized

(Reuters) - Duke University removed a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee from the entrance of a chapel on the Durham, North Carolina, campus, officials said on Saturday, days after it was vandalized.

The decision to take down the statue followed discussions among students, faculty, staff and alumni about maintaining safety on campus, university President Vincent E. Price said in a statement."

    Will this be another loss?

"Petition seeks to replace Confederate monument in Virginia with Missy Elliott statue

Missy Elliott makes white supremacists lose control.

Nathan Coflin started a Change.org petition to replace a Confederate monument in Portsmouth, Va., with a Missy Elliott statue.

“Together we can put white supremacy down, flip it and reverse it,” Coflin writes in the petition, which is addressed to Portsmouth Mayor John Rowe.

Missy Elliot, aka Melissa Arnette Elliott, was born in Portsmouth in 1971."

You know you're in trouble when your own family wants your statues tossed into the trash can.

"Stonewall Jackson’s Descendants Want His Monuments Taken Down
The Confederate general’s descendants say they are “ashamed to benefit from white supremacy while our black family and friends suffer.”

While attendees at last Saturday’s violent “Unite The Right” rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, may want to keep monuments to generals like Robert E. Lee and Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson standing, some relatives of the Confederate leaders do not.

On Monday, the Rev. Robert Wright Lee, IV, the former general’s great-great-great-great-nephew, said that he believed it was time to take down the statues of his ancestor.

Now, William Jackson Christian and Warren Edmund Christian, the great-great-grandsons of Stonewall Jackson, also want statues honoring the Confederate general removed from public display in their home town of Richmond, Virginia, and other cities as well.

In an open letter published by Slate.com on Thursday, Jackson’s descendants made their case to Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney and members of the city’s Monument Avenue Commission, which is in charge of the statues that honor southern Civil War heroes.

The two say all the Confederate statues on Monument Avenue “are overt symbols of racism and white supremacy, and the time is long overdue for them to depart from public display.”"
