Surely those voting in the poll were fully aware of the fact. Actually, I find it kind of sad just because she is more of a celebrity than a competent potential president, just like... well, you know who.

CALGARY, Canada — The “Green New Deal” proposed by congressional Democrats is a “recipe for mass suicide” and the “most ridiculous scenario I ever heard,” Greenpeace Co-Founder Patrick Moore (shown) warned in an exclusive interview with The New American. In fact, Dr. Moore warned that if the “completely preposterous” prescriptions in the scheme were actually implemented, Americans could be forced to turn to cannibalism to avoid starvation — and they still would not survive. Other experts such as Craig Rucker, the executive director of the environmental group Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow (CFACT), also sounded the alarm about the “green” proposal in Congress, comparing it to Soviet five-year plans and calling it a “prescription for disaster.”

Moore, who was one of six international directors of Greenpeace, was flabbergasted that something so ludicrous could even be proposed, much less be advanced in the U.S. government. “It is quite amazing that someone that is in government — actually elected to the government of the United States of America — would propose that we eliminate all fossil fuels in 12 years,” he said in an on-camera interview with The New American from Canada. “This would basically result, if we did it on a global level, it would result in the decimation of the human population from 7-odd billion down to who knows how few people.” It would end up killing almost everyone on the planet, he added.

Worse than mass death would be the way people reacted. “It would basically begin a process of cannibalization among the human species, because the food could not be delivered to the stores in the middle of the cities anymore,” Moore continued. “The point that bothers me the most is that if you eliminated fossil fuels, every tree in the world would be cut for fuel. There is no other source for heating and cooking once you eliminate fossil fuels. You could use animal dung, if there were any animals left, but the animals would all die too because they would all get eaten.” …..snip~

The article you cite here is a flagrant, non-nonsensical attack on a sensible, attainable goal for America. Dr Moore says the Green New Deal would be catastrophic for humanity because it calls for the complete elimination of CO2 discharges into the air. Dr Moore says since all people & animals exhale CO2 as a bi-product of breathing, the Green New Deal regulations would kill of much of humanity for lack of breathing. If this is your example of a valid, fact-based rebuttal to AOCs Green New Deal, then you and me and all of us are in trouble. Dr Moore took the most extreme, nonsensical approach imaginable in his article, and assumed behaviors & outcomes as forgone conclusions instead of unlikely possibilities. This attack was an example of extremist trash. AOCs Green New Deal is not a functional law. It's a general guideline voicing possible goals for the nation in response to global warming. It's NOT a detailed list of precise actions to be taken. I think it's a good starting point, that can be adjusted as needed along the way.

 

That’s pretty far fetched in my opinion sir. However what scares me being a proud Californian is that over 40% of Californians actually voted for an unhinged lunatic like Trump in 2016 and most of them are still here running the streets.

 

As unprepared as Cortez is to be President, she would have a hard time beating the sheer slapstick hijinx that Trump and his band of convicts, crackpots and nitwits have dragged on to the Washington stage. Why do you take such a tact? Trees are not fossil fuels, trees are living- fossils are dead. How did you even write that?

Trees are known also as Biomass, and Coal is formed from ferns, plants and trees which hardened due to pressure and heat.

But burning the worst forms of biomass, such as whole trees, will increase carbon pollution for decades at a time.

 

Neither I, you, or anyone at this precise moment has all the right answers. AOC's Green New Deal simply gives us a banner goal to strive for, much like President Kennedy's goal of landing a man on the Moon within a decade from 1961 was then. No one knew how to get a man to the Moon then. It all had to be worked out step by step. VOC is advocating the same process for fixing global warming. Set the program itself as a national goal, but work out the details as we can and as we go. It's a smart plan that deserves the support of any of us who want action on global warming.

That more people support a 70% tax on the rich than support the wall. I think most people have an aversion to more than 50%, to me that is a Mystical figure that most people do not believe the federal government should take more than you bring home. While one for you- one for me to me is just a line this country should not cross again. While we did have a higher than that tax rate no one paid it due to deductions that were granted then. now if we went back to those golden 50s like the republicans always point to .

And why would a government just not start up Fossil fuel production again in such an emergency. My understanding is that the plan would have us fossil fuel free in 12 years not that in 12 years we will no longer use fossil fuels for other uses such as industrial fertilizer, lubricants etc. Just burning for energy. And burning trees produces less than what the tree absorbed during it lifes and ours. (what we have to keep in balance) When we burn fossil fuels that carbon that was absorbed by that source has already been taken out millions of years ago but is released now upsetting the balance. If you plant trees for 12 years continuous years and add that to the forests now and only burn what you plant you maintain a balance of the CO2 that the trees absorb and the CO2 that they release when burnt.
