The interesting thing here is not the story, but people's reaction to it. I've noticed a lot of people have revenge-fantasies and consume these stories like porn addicts, hoping for the day when they too will legally be able to blow someone away. It's almost like winning some strange lottery: if I'm lucky enough, and have guns stashed all over the house, someone might try to break in, and when I get my hands on my gun and can legally kill them...

I'm so glad, I'm so glad, I'm glad, I'm glad, I'm glad just like Cream sang

It was in NY. The homeowner will probably face murder charges. He probably should have kept quiet and shoved him down the garbage disposal over a period of months. Oh, I forgot, the garbage disposer may not be available in NY.

Love the snowflake lefties that think some unicorn will fly into their home and save them from harm by blinding the intruders with pixie dust. They are the same idiots that scream that the police and fire took too long to get Fuzzy their pet cat out of a tree.

Interesting that the second to last sentence in the story mentions the shotgun was legal. Why would that make a difference?

Your average gunny DOES seem to get off on fantasys of killing people quite a lot. And did this guy die? The article just said he was in critical condition.

I don't think it's revenge fantasies, I think it's frustration that criminals are too often seen as the victims and the real victim gets dumped on. And I don't think people want to kill other people and are looking for an excuse to do it. A few people on this board say that's why people become cops, so they can legally kill people, specifically black people. The line of thinking is just wrong.

No, it's not a fantasy. The thug gambled and lost and America loves winners. I have no sympathy for a person who gambles that his victim will be a pushover and it backfires on him. The thug took the risk and he paid for it.

It says a lot about the need for education reform. Back to your easy chair, only one tucked away? I would do the same but sadly I destroyed all my firearms in 2016 when the press told me it was "Hillary buy a landslide"

I'm curious to why the color of the suspect is relevant to the story?

I guess that would depend on how the OP meant by the quote that you are assuming he felt when posting it.. Maybe it would have been more polite to ask his thought before you assigning them to him ¯\_(º¸º)_/¯

People are fed up with these violent home invasions. If you don't want to defend yourself or your family that is your business. Don't expect others to do likewise. Personally I think people who will not defend themselves or their family are in many cases simply fearful types otherwise known as yellow.

I find it alarming that they find fantasy as a motive for self and home protection? I suppose my fantasy and hope would be surviving a home intrusion and when I do read a home owner beating the odd's I too am,

I think people don't know what they want, but gunporn is very much a thing, as is fantasizing about being in situations where you're legally able to kill someone. I've come across way too many people like that to think it's rare. I don't think that's why people become cops though. I think the vast majority want to help people, and it's one of the few well-paying jobs left that doesn't require much education.

How do you think you would deal with the psychological effects of killing someone? Wouldn't that bother you, down the road? Humans are social creatures and killing another human, even when justified, is something that really bothers most people. A lot of military training is just getting soldiers comfortable with the idea of killing the enemy.

I think a family man would feel worse if he'd done nothing and survived while his family was brutalized and or murdered..

    Situational I would think!

Nice slam at cops education. I wonder if they are smart enough to find your address if you ever needed help?

I missed this part. If the American criminal justice system takes notice of you, even if you're innocent, you're totally ****ed. If you're poor, you're going to take a plea bargain because your public defender can't possibly competently try your case, and if you're middle class, you might escape prison, but you're going to be bankrupt from asset forfeiture and lawyer fees.

Why is the race of the perpetrator relevant in this case?

Was race determined to be a factor in the shooting or the home invasion?

    My thought exactly.

You'll notice that headlines will contain descriptors meant to jerk a reaction... "Grandmother' this, 'Father of two', 'White' 'Black' 'Republican' 'Democrat' - anything to make people twitch, and completely pointless to the actual facts of the story.

I dismantled all mine and drove them out to the landfill and threw all the components in the metal pile ;) I'm a good lil sheep now!
