8 million Americans slipped into poverty during the coronavirus pandemic, one study has estimated

Well, that was the cost of the mandatory shutdown.

Many Americans were apparently already very close to slipping into poverty before that pandemic, and it really didn't take that much to push them into it.
"The economy" may be more "fragile" than people think.

Something we should all bear in mind in the future.

Here's an exercise for you. Google "(state name) real estate zillow". Then bring up the Zillow website and the map with red dots indicating houses for sale. Set the price range to whatever you like. (I set mine to $300,000 - $700,000.) Then zoom in to get a manageable number of houses, ... say 20-30, ... and hover over each one and count the number of "pre-foreclosure" listings. Try other states. There aren't many around Portland Oregon, but Michigan, Wisconsin, Massachusetts, Delaware, California, Pennsylvania, ......... in some cases I found as many as 10 out of 21.

    These are people facing homelessness!!!!!

How in hell will we recover from THAT?!!! There is only one way I can see: take back as much of the money that the top 5% acquired while they kept the median income flat for 40 years, and GIVE that money to those who are facing disaster due to COVID unemployment, etc.

We cannot withstand 30-40 percent of the nation being homeless! It will destroy us. And trying to "fix" it while benefitting corporate USA will be an obvious non-starter to anyone who has any familiarity with the economic history of the last 40 years. Capitalism cannot fix this. We MUST utilize alternative economic policies if we are to survive without having Russian names on everything.

Typical too see the LOCKDOWN blamed. How about the fact that they were all living beyond their means. Not because they wanted too, but because they had too. That is the cost of falling wages, increasing prices, inflated housing, thus local tax costs. Yep, too many do dumb things and live outside what they can afford.

They do so in part because the MEDIA, the POTUS, and others tell them the FIX IS HERE... "greatest economy ever" Have you heard that ? We had a 10 year expansion, once it started to falter during rising rates Dec. 2018, the Corrupt FED reverse course and thru Nitro on a small fire. Same thing Obama allowed in 2008. In place of punishing those borrowing at ever lower interest rates to pay operating expenses, we rewarded them with billions more at1%. Once that didnt work we printed 8 Trillion dollars and handed that out.

What's next ? Dont blame the response to a deadly disease for what the FED, and Politicians are doing to destroy the dollar and ultimately the country. Each new response by the Scum leading us ON BOTH SIDES gets us deeper in the hole. The Media allows it because the 5 or 6 owners are raking in billions for allowing it and keeping their mouths shut.
They force what news is news... And it never ever hurts their POCKET... and or way of life, religion...etc.

If there were no shutdown we would have 500k dead people and be running at a rate of 100k new cases a day. Would that be a better alternative ? Get rid of the weak for the young and healthy to prosper ? Even if we had chose that path, you are still destroying the country thru policy, printing, and deregulation on the rich.

When the republicans scream Deregulation, they never mean for the working class. They mean for the rich to create ever lower paying jobs. What good is a JOB in America if it doesn't pay a living wage. Trump has ran on JOBS< JOBS< JOBS and all those jobs suck....
