    In the next little town over from us a girl was found hung to death.

    Her 14 year old half-brother is charged with murder.

    Very sad day for St. Clair county.

    8 year old girl found hung in St. Clair County

    RAGLAND, Ala. (AP) - Police in an Alabama town are investigating the death of an 8-year-old girl who was found hanging from a rope attached to a tree at her home in Ragland.

    St. Clair County Coroner Dennis Russell tells The Associated Press that authorities are treating the death as "a very suspicious" case.

    Russell identified the girl as Katelynn Arnold. She was found hanging from the rope shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday. He said that an autopsy was planned in Huntsville to help determine how she died.

    Neighbors told WBRC-TV the rope used to be part of an old tire swing. Russell described it as "like a big cotton rope."

    Ragland Elementary School planned to have grief counselors available Friday for classmates of the girl.

    Ragland is about 45 miles northeast of Birmingham.

    They say her feet were barely touching the ground.
    She was riding her bike the last time her mother saw her and when she didn't come home in time, she got in her car and started looking. She was looking for about 45 min. and when she came home she found her in a side yard.

    These kind of things happen in other places, never so close to home.

    and the family must be in shock..

    He should be treated in a mental hospital for a long period of time. I am not even sure if I would want someone like this released.

    If they were ( how do you know she was not wearing socks ? ) , she would have been still alive .
    Was there any report of an earth tremor which might support a verdict of Accidental death ?

    No earth tremors were reported and I think the kid confessed.

    Law enforcement investigated and ruled the death suspicious.

    Probably was beaten into giving a false statement . Has anybody investigated the Policeman to check whether there is a string of similar offences over the last twenty years?
    Also check for any large Humidity movement on the day . Sends some people crazy .

    We have a good sherrif. And he has a sterling reputation. The boy was not beaten into a confession.

    You can not possibly blame this terrible crime on the weather.

    Sometimes; even in America these days, people are held responsible for their actions.

    I just noticed that you are from the U.K. and may have a Hollywood manufactured idea of what the deep south is like.

    We are not as backward as you may think. We have the Huntsville Space center, the Redstone Arsenal, and our doctors are even trained to work on people and not just animals. We also have real moving pictures at the picture show!
