Atheism defines much of what you believe.
Let's put our eternal destiny aside just for the sake of a new discussion because I know most atheist I talk to believe once you close your eyes the last time....it's just an eternal dirtnap.
You know, whether you want to believe it or not, our great nation and it's Constitutional experiment was founded by a bunch of guys that profoundly believed our future would be in the hands of a Supreme Being. The premise "we are endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights" was very much a deciding factor in their authorship. That is the fact we have rights bestowed upon us and they cannot be infringed by government. In fact, their view of government was "it is a necessary evil" and the purpose of our Bill of Rights and Constitution was to restrain government from infringing upon them.

So tell me, do atheists believe our rights come from an all powerful government that only "allows us" to excersize certain rights and that the same government can take them away on a whim? If not.....you tell me,where do our rights come from? I hear so much about how you detest Christians and all the evil things they do and that they are uneducated (indoctrinated) Well let's see how smart you are and explain why the Founders of the greatest Nation on earth did not buy into the atheist lie.

Well I guess we do impose a belief that only science should be taught in public school science class.

and since there is no God who gives us individual freedoms, we must look to the collective to dispense those, right? and since you are one of the elite....you help decide what's best for us!

I look to the Constitution of the United States for my rights. I don't look to a magic sky man.

Again you desperately try to tell me what I believe so you can then argue against it! My lack of a belief in gods has very little to do with my life or what I believe. Indeed it is very true to say that not believing in the Loch Ness Monster has more influence on my life since I often visit Loch Ness.

I try not to make negative comments on others countries but since you asked, very few people outside of the US consider it to be the greatest country on earth, most will accept it is the most powerful country on earth and deports itself accordingly. Invading and bullying who it wishes to on a whim, attacking Iraq when they had nothing to do with 9/11 and generally screwing up whichever country it touches, Vietnam, Korea, etc etc. It is the ultimate example of might is right, there is no god involved in your very earthly power and there is no mention of democracy in your bible!

and the collectivist left in America are beginning to talk about whittling away at the Constitution.. Will you defend the Constitution against those that say it was written by a bunch of "God fearing white guys, clinging to their guns and Bibles"? Most atheists would say it is a living document that needs to change with the times. Are you saying you are an absolutist or is all morality relative? You look to the Constitution for your rights, it is your god. Government is your god. So you do have a belief system!

My Bible puts a high priority on individualism. No one comes to faith collectively. We are given individual liberty as well as responsibility. We are th most powerful Nation on earth and that insures we have the freedom to walk in that liberty. We look to a God who never changes for our liberty..
So do you stand with Jet who says:

If so, then it is, as I suspect, atheists looks to the "collective government" for their rights. My belief is the Constitution is only great because of a never changing Creator that loves us. So answer this, when the Constitution, written by a bunch of God fearing white guys changes to your disliking, will you remain loyal to your god that dispenses your liberty??
This argument I have presented defines the basic differences between leftist thinking and "right" thinking in America. You taunt me as believing in a "magic sky fairy" but I respond that you believe in the likelihood of an eventual totalitarian collectivist governing situation that worships at the foot of Marxism and Leninism. Given History and the undeniable nature of humanity, that is where you are headed!

And I am an uncomfortable agnostic because damnit I WANT TO KNOW!

Does the thought of non-existence give you the cold sweats? Existence will continue on after your demise and eventually your existence will be forgotten. You are a meaningless blip on a meaningless earth in a meaningless solar system in a meaningless universe.... and this doesn't bother you? Do you have no ego at all?

    No, it doesn't.

"""So tell me, do atheists believe..."""

Atheists believe there is no god.....a simple concept that even the simplest mind should grasp.

    Atheists don't believe in god.

That doesn't mean they ALL like strawberry ice cream, and red cars, they are not all Democrats , they all don't all do yoga or live in blue houses.

"""You know, whether you want to believe it or not, our great nation and it's Constitutional experiment was founded by a bunch of guys that profoundly believed our future would be in the hands of a Supreme Being"""

Which does NOT prove there is a god but if there is he sure created one big mess :)

If the US is in the hands of a Supreme Being I wish it would've been in the hands of the Supremes who probably would've done a better job....

I really wish Theists would stop telling Atheists what they think...it is disingenuous and rather rude. I do not try to tell YOU how you think as a Christian, now do I?

And again you simply ignore the inconvenient truths and go into bullshit preaching mode. You are only capable of arguing the points you yourself make up!
Anything to say about where democracy appears in your bible?
Clearly you understand even less about politics than you do about atheism.
Again the US is the most powerful nation on earth, might is right, nothing to do with god, and you have no answers for it. You chose the best example of "might is right" not understanding what you were doing!

They have to, they cannot argue against genuine atheist arguments so they invent their own version which they then argue against! I find it rather amusing, especially when they still manage to screw up and lose an argument with themselves!

First of all I am not the collectivist left. I am a libertarian/conservative. I don't see it (Constitution) as a living document. Government is not my God. I don't worship government. I don't have a God. You can't seem to grasp many people don't feel the need for a so called God. I don't think all morality is relative. My morality is based on what I was taught by my parents, society, and to a certain extent is hard wired. I believe in a lot of things, but not an invisible man in the sky. If I believed in the Christian God I would believe in slavery, genocide, thought crimes and the stoning women and children and so forth. Speaking of morality, you believe in a God that would watch a child being raped and do nothing, whereas I would try to stop a crime like this if if I could. Christians try to explain this concept of a god that allows crime, starvation, disease, and so forth with claims that god wants people to have free will. In other words a criminal must have free will to commit murder while the victim has no free will. So much for the morality of your God.

What about a court of law? A theist will say only "God" can judge them, therefore it is the theists who feel they are accountable to none.

Do not think theists reject "might is right". Think, the "God" almighty and The Lion of Judah. Theism is the ultimate example of "might is right" and corruption.

You lost. You avoid my statements by saying I am preaching. Your "Biblephobia" gets the best of you because I said nothing Bible oriented. You cannot handle anything void of a "collective nature." You choose to ignore American History. The Founders chose our system of gov
ernment because they had a deep understanding of human nature and it's flaws. They understood that humans can easily become "gods unto themselves" and try to rule others with an iron fist. You and your belief system fall right into that niche. We are a democratic "Republic" full of checks and balances. We were never a pure Democracy where the "masses" can rough shod over the minority. That is precisely why we have an electoral college. New York, Kalifornia, and Illinois are not going to lord over the"heartland".
Best of luck with your humanistic collective endeavors!

You know nothing about the Christian God....I'll leave it at that. When I say God that is with a capital G. There are many gods (small g) . A god is what we all derive our security from. The word can also interchange with "idol".You stated you derive your security or liberty from the Constitution which was written primarily by a bunch of God worshipping white men. (of course you choose to ignore that fact) If you'd like, I can send you an overwhelming amount of God oriented quotes from a large variety of those Founders. Therefore you have pretty much admitted the Constitution is your god. Perhaps you don't see yourself as a collectivist, but I do believe you think you are superior to those that follow God and try to walk in His ways. I'm sure you cringe every time you see the words "In God we Trust".

Not true Mystic Wolf. My Bible tells me that the rulers of this world are given authority from God and should be obeyed up until the point they violate God's Law. Jesus did tell the Pharisees to "render unto Caesar what belongs to Caesar. Jesus also paid taxes and you cannot find an instance of Him breaking the law of the land.
It is true however, only God can judge regarding eternity.

Considering that people like you push your interpretation of "Gods Law" onto the laws for everyone else, I see no real difference.

And back to the Christian habit of claiming victory when you have only been arguing against yourself, totally avoiding the awkward points I posed for you that christians cannot answer, well done!
Now when you get back to reality here are the points you chose not to engage about instead waffling on about the US constitution!
Atheists lack belief in god. That is it! Nothing else is common to all of them. You simply cannot understand that.
You have provided no evidence for gods existence, none, nada, nothing!
Democracy, (the thing that makes america great in any way) is not mentioned in the christian holy book.
Whenever you want to stop projecting your dreams of collectivist hell and discuss the above get back to me.

Projecting his own biases onto others and continually claiming that only he could possibly be correct is all he has. Facts and history go against him so he has to make stuff up.

Given the definition of humanism as listed below, it doesn't sound like such a bad thing to me.

humanism, is a philosophy or life stance that embraces human reason, ethics, and philosophical naturalism while specifically rejecting religious dogma, supernaturalism, pseudoscience, and superstition as the basis of morality and decision making.
