I am a modern human and enjoy the benefits of my place in the continuing evolution of the human race. I don’t care very much about the Neanderthals or any of the offshoots of the apes that came down from the trees at the dawn of our time here-they’re long gone and I’m still here. What I do care about is the magic electricity that comes out of the walls through a wire that powers all of the devices that ensure I can remain a modern human. I like being warm in the winter and cool in the summer; comfort is where it’s at in the life of a modern human. In 1900 only about three percent of homes in the US had electricity or even indoor plumbing. In those days you had to use your wife to stay warm and I have one of those today. She’s styling her hair with an electric hairdryer while the laundry churns in an electric washer. We keep each other around for company, not warmth. In the winter months I like to keep the inside temperature at the level of a tropical beach so I can relax in my underwear (in the privacy of my own home of course). In the humid, dog days of summer I like to keep my place about the temperature of a beer cooler so I install an air conditioner that’s about 3 times the recommended size for my house. Sometimes it gets chilly so I curl up under an electric blanket while I watch the Red Sox through frosted glasses. I throw on a coat for occasional trips to the bathroom and hurry back to my comfort zone. My beef is with the power company. They’re still running wires through sticks (telephone poles) just like they did when the telegraph replaced the Pony express. They’ve had well over a hundred years to modernize but the snow laden trees fall on the wires and I am no longer a modern human. They get big bucks for delivering our wonderful magic the same way they did back when Edison was electrocuting dogs and elephants to scare the public away from Westinghouse’s alternating current. What’s up with that? I want to keep those dark days before we had the magic in the history books. As a modern human I don’t need to be reminded of reality when the wires fall down.
The power company is one hell of a good deal, always has been. If you think not buy a whole house generator or generators and see what it costs to produce your own. Or invest in a massive solar/wind project for your domicile.
Edison is a fraud. The man in my picture was the real genius behind our ability to use electricity, Nikola Tesla. Tesla wanted wireless electricity but this would've been free and simply wasn't allowed so his main donor, JP Morgan, pulled his funding.
