I thought I would take a break from the silly political stuff and post a message for old-timers who know what is important. I was going to post it in the Opinion POLLS forum, but Im not taking a poll. I would like to hear some opinions; so I decided to put it here because the singers and the bands did appear in films we old fogies remember. First there is the never-resolved question of which Eberle brother had the better voice. Ray sang with Glenn Miller: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mrun0Z7xOjI&feature=player_embedded"]78rpm: It's A Blue World - Glenn Miller and his Orchestra, 1939 - Bluebird 10536 - YouTube[/ame] Bob sang with Jimmy Dorsey: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=2e_1ZJgCSRg The next one is bit tougher. Which of the two had the better voice? Dick Haymes or Frank Sinatra? Dick Haymes followed Sinatra with the Harry James band, then followed him again when Sinatra left the Tommy Dorsey band. Here they are singing the theme song from the movie Now Voyager. Neither of the following recordings includes the great Tommy Dorsey band: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBP66t4eR18&feature=player_embedded"]IT CAN'T BE WRONG ~ Dick Haymes & The Song Spinners 1943.wmv - YouTube[/ame] [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQsHrGdRvF8&feature=player_embedded"]Frank Sinatra It Can't Be Wrong - YouTube[/ame] As trivial as it may sound today, those were big questions in my pre-teen years while WWII was raging; nevertheless, younger folks might enjoy voicing an unbiased opinion. They probably never heard of Ray and Bob Eberle or Dick Haymes; so they can decide on the quality of the voices without being influenced by the personalties of the singers. One final comparison open for opinions. Tommy Dorsey and Glenn Miller playing the most memorable of all big band theme songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=cKQc-cbAvdQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=BHBvksGdhxA
