A question for left wing college professors pushing socialism

Ok, so you are Cuban. But I was told otherwise by Cubans. However, I stand corrected.

Yes and no. They get rich because they pay no taxes, have very low quality stuff. They lose their money when the government comes in and find them and take away their stuff. So, without government, the supplier gets rich, with the government, the supplier becomes broke.

What this misses along with most American Capitalists, is that Democratic Socialism USES Capitalism in its system. Government sets parameters or limits on what Capitalists can do that poses a threat or danger to society or individual citizens, but Capitalism thrives under Democratic Socialism, and many Capitalists become wealthy. I don't understand why conservatives are so determined to attack such a compelling and successful system.

 

I'm not really a conservative, though I agree with a lot of their views. People do not want the government being in charge in that kind of way. Can you get that? There is nothing more prone to corruption than governments.

 

Because essentially Nazism was democratic socialism. The people didn't like the jews, aka 1%, and had all the problems of the country placed on them. The government came in, took away the jews rights to own a business. Government is the only entity that can "lawfully" take away your property by force. No walmart or target or liman brothers business can do that by themselves.

I'd rephrase that to: "There is nothing more prone to corruption than unregulated big business."

 

According to historians, Nazi Germany was the single most successful economic system in human history. Unfortunately for Germany and the world, Hitler used Jews as a scapegoat in that success, and then decided to inflict war on the world around him instead of basking in the success he'd achieved economically for Germany.

But you make a good point about the "legal" powers of government. Just as we can't afford to allow big business total freedom to act in ways that can harm society around them, we must also remain diligent in our efforts to keep government under strict regulation so it doesn't destroy innocent individuals (or small businesses) in favor of large corporations or the wealthy elite.

 

No big business can send in guys with guns to take away what another private citizen has legally. Government can.

 

As opposed to using socialism

 

Both of these problems can be dealt with by honest, ethical lawmakers. Simply address the issue using the existing legal system to put into place laws that prevent any such malevolence. The answer here isn't to destroy the system because it has a few flaws, but to elect representatives with the backbone and moral courage to use the system to fix the issues. The problem wouldn't exist if we didn't continue electing and re-electing representatives who hate government. We can't expect anyone who HATES government to actually FIX government, can we?

 

No, as opposed to using BOTH working together. That's a win-win situation; not a winner-loser situation, which we have here in America.
