This is surreal. A part of me cannot believe this is happening.

Thursday brought 63,247 new Covid-19 cases nationwide, a single-day record. Florida suffered 120 deaths in one day, a new record. Miami-Dade County reported a staggering 28% positivity rate on Friday.

Over the past 13 days, hospitalizations in Miami-Dade County have gone up by 74%, the number of beds in intensive care units being used has increased by 88% and the use of ventilators has soared by 123%, according to the latest data from the county government.

Guess where Trump decided to visit today.

    You guessed it, Miami-Dade.

Despite the fact that the number of cases of the highly contagious virus has increased 1237% in Florida, Trump went to Florida to talk about Venezuela.

In Miami on Friday, Trump portrayed himself as tough on drugs and a champion of Venezuelans. “We are going to be fighting for Venezuelans. Cuba and Venezuela, we have it very much under control,” our President said.

Then he went on to a fundraiser.

Florida health officials on Friday reported 11,433 new Covid-19 cases and 93 deaths, according to data on the Florida Department of Health website.

Total American deaths today from the virus, 770 and counting.

According to a new ABC News poll, Trump's approval rating on his handling of the pandemic was 33%.

Trump is hard at work providing distractions from the deadly virus.

He hasn't spoken to the leading authority on the pandemic, Dr. Anthony Fauci, since June 2nd.

Before leaving for Florida, our President threaten the school system. "The Dems think it would be bad for them politically if U.S. schools open before the November Election, but is important for the children & families. May cut off funding if not open!" he tweeted.

Today, before leaving for Florida, the President threatened our universities. Attacking colleges for "radical left" policies, our President said Friday that he's calling on the Treasury Department to review the tax-exempt status of colleges and universities.

Our President threatened international students in the U.S. with deportation. He told international students in the United States they must take in-person classes this fall or they will have to leave the country.

    Our President, what a guy.

Putin wanted this man as our President.

Fox News is the network of choice for Trump's followers, and I continue to watch the straight news segments every day. This explains why Trump's followers are so uninformed, but they know enough not to use Fox's arguments and Trump's statements to support Trump. When it comes to Trump, Fox is infantile as they ignore the elephant in the room.

Today, Fox spent about a minute or two on the President's travels to Miami-Dade county. Fox spent more time on the destruction of the Columbus statue which happened six days ago.

Florida is the new epicenter for the coronavirus pandemic.

    Fox failed to mention that.

New cases in Florida are up 1267%.

    Fox failed to mention that.

The positivity rate for the virus in Miami-Dade County is 28%.

    Fox failed to mention that.

Trump was greeted by masked state and local officials. Trump was not wearing a mask.

    Fox failed to mention that.

Despite the fact that Trump was visiting the epicenter of the Covid pandemic, Trump ignored the spread of the virus while in Florida.

    Fox failed to mention that.

Today, in terms of federal money, Trump threatened our schools.

    Fox failed to mention that.

Today, in terms of federal money, Trump threatened our universities.

    Fox failed to mention that.

According to a new ABC News poll, Trump's approval rating on his handling of the pandemic was 33%.

Of course, Fox failed to mention that.

ABC News reports, "As President Donald Trump threatens to cut funding to schools that don't reopen in the fall and continues to host mega-rallies as cases of coronavirus increase, there appears to be a growing rift between the Trump White House and its top health advisers.

"Despite coronavirus response coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx asking Americans in hot spot zones to avoid indoor gatherings and reduce them to 10 people or fewer, Trump on Friday delivered remarks and attended a home fundraiser in Florida as cases there rise -- one day after the state saw a record death toll.

"The trip came as Trump seeks to downplay the danger in states like Florida, Arizona, Texas and California struggling to control outbreaks -- which he calls "embers" -- and openly disputes coronavirus task force officials.

Those "embers" are setting daily records for the number of coronavirus deaths.

"In a series of interviews this week, Trump questioned the expertise of Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institutes of Health for more than three decades and a prominent member of the White House coronavirus task force, who continually polls higher in favorability than the president."

Trump doesn't have a prayer in November. He is being incredibly stupid. Instead of trying to overcome his early failures in the pandemic, he is making matters far worse by ignoring the pandemic and marginalizing his own health experts.

    That is pretty stupid.

As shown by their silence, Trump's followers are tacitly agreeing with me.

This is absolutely hilarious. So typical of the Trump White House.

The U.S. Supreme Court last month dealt a major setback to Trump’s hardline immigration policies, blocking his bid to end DACA, which was created in 2012 by his Democratic predecessor Barack Obama.

Trump is concerned about his reelection and the ever powerful Hispanic vote.

This week Trump expressed enormous concerns about the the educational and economic opportunities for Hispanics. He even signed an executive order that supposedly would improve the lot of Latinos in our country.

In the interview Friday with Spanish-language TV network Telemundo, Trump said another executive order would involve Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), the program that protects hundreds of thousands of such immigrants from deportation.

“I’m going to do a big executive order. … And I’m going to make DACA a part of it,” Trump said. “We’re going to have a road to citizenship.”

The White House corrected Trump ... again. His planned executive order on immigration will not include amnesty for migrants in the United States illegally but arrived as children, a White House spokesman said Friday.

“This does not include amnesty,” White House spokesman Judd Deere said in a statement.

This is a review of recent events involving Trump. If you are a Trump fan, you are not going to like it. However, like everything else in this thread, there isn't much a Trump fan can say. These are actual events, and one can't debate the truth.

In January and February Trump mishandled the coronavirus from the very beginning with his surreal, optimistic comments that bordered on fantasy. As a consequence, the federal government was slow to react to the impending threat. It is why today, the U.S. has a quarter of the world's Covid cases -- over three million -- and a quarter of the world's deaths caused by the virus.

Now he is making a very bad situation worse. There is no clarity from the federal government, and Trump often contradicts his own experts. The leading expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, appears to be persona non grata in the White House.

Trump desperately wishes to change the subject. Oblivious to the fact that young children attending school are a petri dish of all the known viruses in the world, Trump decides to put pressure on state governors to open the schools throughout our country irrespective of local conditions, such as a raging virus in several states and mounting death rate.

Trump threatened our schools. He would cut funding to our schools if he didn't get his way.

ABC News reports, "President Donald Trump's campaign rally in late June, as well as the accompanying counter-protests, likely contributed to the area's recent spike in coronavirus cases, Tulsa City-County Health Department Director Dr. Bruce Dart said Wednesday. Trump canceled a political rally in New Hampshire despite sunny weather.

Pence said the CDC would come out with new guidelines for schools because Trump said the current ones were too tough and expensive. The Director of the CDC, Dr. Robert Redfield said there would be no new guidelines.

Trump said he would sign an executive order giving the DACA children a path to citizenship. The White House said the executive order will not mention DACA, and there will be no path to citizenship.

Amidst a raging pandemic which Trump is largely avoiding, he signed an executive order establishing the White House Hispanic Prosperity Initiative.

On Thursday, Florida suffered 120 deaths in one day, a new record.

Texas suffered 105 deaths in one day, a new record.

California suffered 149 deaths in one day, a new record.

Over the past 13 days, hospitalizations in Miami-Dade County have gone up by 74%, the number of beds in intensive care units being used has increased by 88% and the use of ventilators has soared by 123%.

In Miami on Friday, Trump portrayed himself as tough on drugs and a champion of Venezuelans. “We are going to be fighting for Venezuelans. Cuba and Venezuela, we have it very much under control,” our President said.

Then he went on to a fundraiser.

Trump is asking the Treasury Department to review the tax-exempt status of universities and school systems, suggesting in a tweet that too many were about “Radical Left Indoctrination, not Education.”

On Friday, against the advice of the White House and the DOJ, Trump commuted the sentence of a convicted felon and personal friend, Roger Stone.

Putin wanted this man as our President.

Trump has six and a half months to go in his term. An out-of-control President can do a lot of damage in six and a half months.

White House officials were against offering clemency to Roger Stone and were outraged by Trump's decision to do so Friday night. Among those opposed to Trump's decision to spare his longtime adviser from having to report to prison next week was White House chief of staff Mark Meadows. Multiple White House officials advised Trump against the commutation.

The opposition was fueled by concerns that Trump could face significant political blowback and could be seen as abusing his Presidential power — a risk the President cannot afford to take as he continues to trail former Vice President Joe Biden in the national polls and in key battle ground states, raising red flags for his re-election chances.

'''Big mistake''': Barr, White House officials tried to keep Trump from getting involved in Stone'''s sentencing

Even Trump's lawyer, Attorney General William Barr, recommended against granting Stone clemency. Barr said that Stone’s prosecution was “righteous” and the sentence was fair.

It is readily apparent that Trump has given up on his reelection. In the past several weeks he has made the worst possible mistake at the worst possible time, and he is doing it intentionally to prove how much power he has. Presidential power for Trump is a narcotic to enhance his overwhelming ego and out-of-control narcissism.

That is what is important to Trump now with his reelection merely a pipe dream.

The Senate had a chance to reign in this President and they blew it for political expediency. The consequence: Trump is unleashed. He does what he wants to do and everyone else be damned. He doesn't care what his chief of staff thinks, or his lawyer, or his medical experts, and he certainly does not care about the coronavirus pandemic and what it is doing to our country. Trump simply ignores the national crisis, and, if he does say anything at all, the statements are surreal and have no relationship to fact.

Trump has six and a half months to go in his term. An out-of-control President can do a lot of damage in six and a half months.

The incredible stupidity of our President never ceases to amaze me. With a raging pandemic that has killed over 138,000 Americans, setting dubious records in Florida, Texas, California, Arizona, Mississippi, several other states, and shut down the California economy, Trump pardons a convicted felon and attacks the credibility of his own leading authority on pandemics, Dr. Anthony Fauci, who has served six Presidents and has been awarded the Medal of Freedom.

That requires an enormous amount of stupidity, and there is little wonder why his followers are taking a back seat to these events. GOP leaders in Congress remain totally silent. They will not backstop this GOP President, and they are growing quite concerned about their futures.

Many doctors and scientists throughout the world were wrong about this virus. It is a novel virus, and they had no idea what they were dealing with. Moreover, in January and February experts wanted to fend off world panic.

Experts like Dr. Fauci. Like many others, his statements taken out of context were misleading and some were just flat out wrong. Just like many others.

Because our President leads a nation with a quarter of the world's coronavirus cases and a quarter of the world's death toll from the virus, and because of his fanciful, ludicrous statements in the early months of this pandemic, he is searching for someone else to blame for the disaster that has befallen ths U.S.

So, five months later he drags up these earlier comments by Fauci -- nearly all taken out of context -- in order to place the blame on the storied epidemiologist. NBC News reports, "In a remarkable broadside by the Trump administration [read Trump] against one of its own, a White House official said Sunday that "several White House officials [read Trump] are concerned about the number of times Dr. Fauci has been wrong on things." The official [with Trump's blessing] gave NBC News a list of nearly a dozen past comments by Fauci that the official said had ultimately proven erroneous."

The move is childish in nature, lacking imagination and discretion.

Facing a powerful backlash from Democrats and Republicans, Trump, as expected, backed down. In his best wanting-it-both-ways mode, Trump said today that he had "a very good relationship with Dr. Fauci."

"I've had for a long time, right from the beginning," he continued. "I find him to be a very nice person. I don't always agree with him."

"I get along with him very well," Trump added. "I like him personally."

    Our President is lying again.

Trump hasn't spoken to Fauci since June 2. Fauci says he hasn't briefed Trump in two months on COVID response

ABC News reports, "The White House has taken the unusual step of attacking a member of its coronavirus task force, by providing a document to several media outlets that contains a list of comments made by Dr. Anthony Fauci in an effort to damage his reputation.

"The document, obtained by ABC News from sources who confirmed the effort to discredit Fauci, says in part that "several White House officials are concerned about the number of times Dr. Fauci has been wrong on things.'"

Of course, McEnany lied for her boss. Here's hoping she is being paid a lot money because her credibility has been shot to hell.

Axios reports, "White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany denied Monday that the White House released "opposition research" on Anthony Fauci’s handling of the coronavirus, despite the fact that multiple media outlets received a statement from an unnamed White House official that listed the times Fauci was "wrong on things" in the pandemic's early days."

"To the notion that there's opposition research and that there's Fauci versus the president couldn't be further from the truth. Dr. Fauci and the president have always had a very good working relationship," McEnany said.

The Trump white House is really something. It's like everyone in the place have lost their minds.

There is another aspect to all of this.

In the early months of the pandemic, Fauci, much like everyone else in the White House, wanted to say things that pleased the President. Fauci, like everyone else in the White House, knew Trump does not like to hear bad news.

So, January through the early part of March, Fauci tried to be optimistic about the novel virus to please his boss.

But things started getting out of hand when Trump started to believe his own fantasies about the virus -- such as suggesting the injection of Lysol to kill the germs -- and Fauci came to realize his optimistic approach was not the answer. At the same time, things were getting pretty nasty on the East Coast.

Fauci then started to be more forthcoming with the American people. Trump preferred his fantasies, and began to ignore the pandemic. In early June, he stopped talking to Fauci.

Then the sociopath who doesn't give a shyt about anyone but himself, used Fauci's earlier optimistic statements designed to please Trump against his medical expert..

Then, as expected, that strategy blew up in Trump's face and he had backtrack immediately forthwith.

Trump held a press conference today. He paid very little attention to the raging coronavirus pandemic that has killed 908 Americans today.

As expected since the surge began two weeks ago -- roughly the incubation period for the virus -- the death toll is gradually rising.

New cases of Covid are averaging over 60,000 a day. Today there are 64,423 new cases.

Florida broke its own record with 132 deaths in one day.

Texas was not far behind with 129. followed by California, 117.

Trump is oblivious. He thinks testing causes virus infections, and 99% of the cases are harmless as several states are running out of hospital beds.

    Trump has completely lost it.

On Monday afternoon, Trump was asked about his insistence that the only reason that coronavirus cases are spiking across the South and Southwest was an increase in testing. His answer came from an alternate universe.

Reporter: Do you acknowledge that it's going up for other reasons too; for example, that it's actually spreading? And what are you going to do to stop the spread?

You are not going to believe this. Here is Trump's answer.

Trump: Well, you know that we have one of the lowest mortality rates anywhere. If you know, [former Vice President Joe] Biden and [former President Barack] Obama stopped their testing; they just stopped it. You probably know that. I'm sure you don't want to report it. But they stopped testing. Right in the middle, they just went, "No more testing," and on a much lesser problem than the problem that we have, obviously with respect to -- this is the worst thing that's happened since probably 1917. This is a very bad -- all over the world. It's 188 countries right now.

You won't believe what Donald Trump just said about coronavirus testing - CNNPolitics

Perhaps it is time for the 25th Amendment. Trump obviously has a severe mental problem.

Trump keeps doing all the wrong things. He is worth a threat a day now, and none of it will happen. He simply wants to distract us from the deadly pandemic, which he is largely ignoring.

Cutting off funding to our schools is political suicide. It won't happen. Republican lawmakers won't permit it. They have enough problems with Trump as their party leader.

We will hear no more about the tax exempt status of our universities. That was a dead issue the moment Trump finished the tweet.

Trump threatening international students with deportation was also a loser. Business Insider reports, "The Trump administration issued a directive on July 6 saying that international students attending schools operating entirely online may not remain in the US. Schools, according to the policy, were supposed to report their reopening plans by Wednesday.

"But on Tuesday, the White House rescinded the directive in a hearing for a lawsuit that Harvard and MIT brought against Immigration and Customs Enforcement on July 8."

As the outbreak hits record levels in the United States, increasing in 41 states over the past two weeks, governors and mayors across the nation are scrambling to try to contain it, issuing new mask orders, limiting the size of gatherings and preparing for the worst.

A fourth of the world's total of new cases are in the southern half of the United States.

The U.S. is averaging over 60,000 new cases a day. Today the total is 70,028 and counting. The death toll continue to surge, today 924 and counting. United States Coronavirus: 3,615,379 Cases and 140,095 Deaths - Worldometer

Coronavirus hospitalizations in California are at an all-time high, and doctors and nurses at some hospitals say the nightmare has arrived. Hospitals in Florida are overwhelmed as the state reports record virus deaths. Texas hospitals are running out of drugs, beds, ventilators, and staff.

Trump traveled to Atlanta today, headquarters for the CDC, to talk about ... infrastructure.

Trump will now control the coronavirus pandemic statistics.

USA Today reports, "The Trump administration ordered hospitals to bypass the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and send all COVID-19 patient information to a central database in Washington, starting Wednesday, according to a Health and Human Services document updated July 10.

"The hand-off had an immediate effect. Wednesday afternoon one of the important CDC pages that tracked changes over time in how many hospital beds in the nation are occupied by COVID-19 patients ceased working. The CDC confirmed the page's disappearance was a consequence of the switch."

Dr. Robert Redfield, CDC director, indicated the change would not be detrimental.

    Uh-huh, yeah, sure.

"Dr. Anthony Fauci has a good bedside manner with the public, but he has been wrong about everything I have interacted with him on," Peter Narvarro in USA Today.

Trump chided Navarro Wednesday for the opinion piece, but we know he is lying again. Navarro is a Trump sycophant, a loyal lapdog to the President. There is no doubt Navarro wrote the opinion piece with Trump's blessing. We know, throughout his Presidency, Trump has wanted it both ways. In this case, Trump can say Tony is a great guy while he dispatches one of his minions to do he really wants to do -- undermine Fauci and his dire message which is far different from the President.

However, there may another aspect to all this. We know that marginalizing Fauci is a horrible move by Trump, and now he is trying it for the second time. We know Trump is seriously damaging his reelection chances, and he is opposed by every GOP leader in Congress and nearly every Republican governor except DeSantis.

We read in the Post, "The chaos surrounding the federal response to the coronavirus crisis escalated Wednesday as infighting between a top trade adviser to President Trump and other senior administration officials burst into public view, exposing the federal government’s lack of message discipline and focus amid a surging pandemic.

"Days after anonymously disseminating a list of negative talking points about Anthony S. Fauci, the nation’s top infectious-disease expert, the White House sought to distance itself from the anti-Fauci effort Wednesday by publicly chastising trade adviser Peter Navarro for writing a USA Today op-ed blasting the popular public health official."

Is the White House attempting to bring Trump under control? Finally, are members of the White House staff seriously taking exception to what the out-of-control President is doing?

Come November a lot of careers are hanging in the balance. We shall see.

Herman Caine had been hospitalized for two weeks for the virus following his attendance at Trump's Oklahoma rally. The only update of his condition are some tweets from his twitter account that are probably being updated by someone else. IMO...if Caine does not make it, they will not want it to be publicized.

Yesterday Trump traveled to Atlanta, headquarters for the CDC, to talk about ... infrastructure.

Florida set a new record for deaths in one day, 156. Texas set a new record for deaths in one day, 129. South Carolina set a new record for deaths in one day, 72.

Today, Trump produced an elaborate photo op in the Rose Garden complete with trucks and crane ... to talk about reducing regs.

Trump doesn't seem to realize that it is not regs that are holding back Americans and the economy. It is a raging pandemic, and Trump is engaged in a months long feud with his medical experts and the CDC.

Due to White House pressure, Trump finally had a chat with Dr. Fauci for the first time since June 2.

Trump is losing his base. Of course, I have known that for months. Trump's critics have complete freedom, and his followers are completely silent.

Fox News reports, "The Quinnipiac University poll – which was conducted July 9-13 – shows the former vice president and presumptive Democratic nominee with 52 percent support among registered voters, with Trump at 37 percent support."

Last week, Trump scored his worst ratings yet in an ABC News/Ipsos poll. This week he's hit bottom in the NBC News/Wall Street Journal and Quinnipiac University polls.

Whites without a college degree and rural voters went for Trump by around a 30-point margin as a group in 2016. Now the support from this group ranges between 48 to 50%. Farmers disapprove of Trump by 50%.

Trump's disapproval among independents has risen to 73%, up from 59%.

Disapproval of Trump's handling of the pandemic is 67%. Approval is the hard core 33%.

Maryland's Republican Governor Larry Hogan writes:

I’d watched as the president downplayed the outbreak’s severity and as the White House failed to issue public warnings, draw up a 50-state strategy, or dispatch medical gear or lifesaving ventilators from the national stockpile to American hospitals. Eventually, it was clear that waiting around for the president to run the nation’s response was hopeless; if we delayed any longer, we’d be condemning more of our citizens to suffering and death. So every governor went their own way, which is how the United States ended up with such a patchwork response. I did the best I could for Maryland.

Instead of listening to his own public health experts, the president was talking and tweeting like a man more concerned about boosting the stock market or his reelection plans.

I have asked this before. Just how stupid is Trump?

Or, is that the wrong question to ask. Has he given up on his reelection? Is he trying to do as much damage as he can between now and Jan. 20? Keep in mind, Putin wanted this guy to be our President.

The latter two questions may be more apropos than the first one. That's a guess, of course, because we hear nothing from Trump's fans concerning Trump. They are too busy talking about Joe Biden.

Yesterday there were over 77,000 new cases of the virus. While Florida is the new epicenter of the pandemic, the entire southern part of the U.S. is experiencing a raging virus infestation. Texas broke the record it set for deaths, 129, with 174 yesterday. I could go on, but the reader gets my point. It's bad, really bad.

So, what is our President doing about it? He, personally, is largely ignoring the problem while preaching to the American public that in this environment our children should be sent to school and soon. He threatened state governors that federal funding for schools could be pulled if in-person classes don't resume in the fall. That is all he is saying that is of any consequence.

However, while Trump is avoiding the problem, his administration has been busy destroying the credibility of the medical experts on pandemics.

The White House won't allow U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Robert Redfield to testify at a House Committee on Education hearing on safely reopening schools this fall amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Hospital data on coronavirus patients will now be rerouted to the Trump administration instead of being sent to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The White House attacked a member of its coronavirus task force, by providing a document to several media outlets that contains a list of comments made by Dr. Anthony Fauci in an effort to damage his reputation.

Peter Navarro, Trump’s top trade adviser, published a brazen op-ed article in USA Today describing Dr. Fauci as “wrong about everything.”

Another of Trump’s top advisers shared a mocking cartoon that portrayed Dr. Fauci as a leaky faucet.

"Dr. Fauci is a nice man, but he's made a lot of mistakes. A lot of them said don't wear a mask, don't wear a mask. Now they are saying wear a mask. A lot of mistakes were made, a lot of mistakes," Trump said incoherently seven days ago.

My point? The economy is shutting down again and Trump is exacerbating the situation.

The Post writes, "States that lifted coronavirus restrictions are reversing course as cases surge and hospitals fill up across the Sun Belt. Beaches and bars that reopened for Memorial Day shut back down for the Fourth of July."

It is beyond the scope of Trump's limited intellectual prowess to understand that the economy will not come back with sick and dying Americans. Two-thirds of the American people are concerned that they or members of their family will become infected by the virus.

And Trump does nothing but aggravate the problem.

Trump can do nothing about the economy. The virus is in control of the economy. To get our great economy firing on all cylinders again, Trump should be maximizing the powers of his office to fight this virus.

But he is too damn stupid to understand that concept and the consequences of his actions.

Unless the sociopath is doing it on purpose.

The Post reports, "Americans’ views of President Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic have deteriorated significantly as cases rise across the country and personal fears of becoming infected persist, a Washington Post-ABC News poll finds.

"The Post-ABC poll shows 38 percent of Americans approve of his handling of the outbreak, down from 46 percent in May and 51 percent in March. Sixty percent disapprove, up from 53 percent in May and 45 percent in March.

"More than half of the public — 52 percent — now disapproves “strongly” of Trump’s handling of the outbreak, roughly double the percentage who say they strongly approve of his efforts and an increase from 36 percent in strong disapproval since March."

For those concerned about Trump's reelection, I don't think we have much to worry about. Trump is so stupid he makes things worse for himself on a daily basis. Trump's worst enemy is Trump.

Also, Trump's own fans have abandoned him. They don't defend him, and look at the threads on this forum.

There is not one thread from a Trump supporter concerning what Trump is doing, saying, and tweeting. Not one!

So by your own admission you admit that Obama had nothing to do with fixing the economy?

Let me guess, that is different though, right?

The Times writes, "Each morning at 8 as the coronavirus crisis was raging in April, Mark Meadows, the White House chief of staff, convened a small group of aides to steer the administration through what had become a public health, economic and political disaster.

"Their ultimate goal was to shift responsibility for leading the fight against the pandemic from the White House to the states. They referred to this as “state authority handoff,” and it was at the heart of what would become at once a catastrophic policy blunder and an attempt to escape blame for a crisis that had engulfed the country — perhaps one of the greatest failures of presidential leadership in generations.

"Over a critical period beginning in mid-April, President Trump and his team convinced themselves that the outbreak was fading, that they had given state governments all the resources they needed to contain its remaining “embers” and that it was time to ease up on the lock-down."

Senate negotiations center around a bill supported by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.). He is preparing to unveil the bill this coming week as part of negotiations with Democrats on what will likely be the last major coronavirus relief bill before the November election.

Trump is trying to block the portion of the bill that contains billions of dollars for states to conduct testing and contact tracing in the upcoming coronavirus relief bill.

Trump is also trying to block billions of dollars that GOP senators want to allocate for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and billions more for the Pentagon and State Department to address the pandemic at home and abroad.

Trump's posturing has angered GOP senators, and some lawmakers are trying to push back and ensure that the money stays in the bill.

It's about freaking time. GOP leaders are finally giving up on Trump, much like his followers.

The Times writes, "Trump’s failure to contain the coronavirus outbreak and his refusal to promote clear public-health guidelines have left many senior Republicans despairing that he will ever play a constructive role in addressing the crisis, with some concluding they must work around Mr. Trump and ignore or even contradict his pronouncements.

"In recent days, some of the most prominent figures in the G.O.P. outside the White House have broken with Mr. Trump over issues like the value of wearing a mask in public and heeding the advice of health experts like Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, whom the president and other hard-right figures within the administration have subjected to caustic personal criticism.

"They appear to be spurred by several overlapping forces, including deteriorating conditions in their own states, Mr. Trump’s seeming indifference to the problem and the approach of a presidential election in which Mr. Trump is badly lagging his Democratic challenger, Joseph R. Biden Jr., in the polls."

    That says it all.
