Marie was the first witness. When she was done, she stood up, and got a standing ovation. She didn't hit it out of the park, she hit it out of the country. Her job was to explain what had happened so that most could understand it. That wasn't easy, most people can't tell diplomacy from a hole in the ground, and the scheme that Trump had cooked up was preposterous.

Congress had to go through the motions, but my 2 cents is that it was a done deal by the time she stood up to leave..

The book is a memoir. I skipped over the first 3 chapters, and got to her assignments. One of her earlier jobs was Somalia, and that must have sucked on top of being dangerous. Rich guys buy their way into being an ambassador. Career foreign service pros work their way up. She spent a lot of years in crappy countries.

The second half of the book is fascinating, and a good reminder of all the crap that went down back then. But the end is the best. During the run up to the impeachment hearings she was constantly dealing with lawyers, Congressional staff, foreign service people, moving her stuff back from Ukraine, and visiting her mother in the hospital. Mom died days before she had to testify.

She is tougher than nails. Of course, learning your job in places like Somalia would make you that way. She deserves a medal.

Highly recommended, for some of you.

Well, she's a consummate professional at her job which is to represent America and not a politician or political party looking only five feet ahead for their own benefit.
