Some people try to make the argument that America stands as an outlier being the only developed country that highly values gun rights.

Well, I would put forth a counterargument to these people.

Since America is the only that highly values gun rights, if you don't like it, why not move to any of those other countries you like so much?

    You have options to move.

If, on the other hand, you get what you want, then those who highly value gun rights will be left with no options.

When phrased that way, it doesn't sound fair, now does it?

The people who present this also believe being liked by the most popular kid in school was worth more than their intellectual and moral integrity.

I'd also point out America is the country that is standing behind all those other developed countries if something goes wrong.

If freedom in America goes, I don't think it will be long (on a historical timescale, say 50-100 years) before there's some big conflict and all those other countries lose their freedom.

The concept of democracy around the world is actually quite recent and was very much promoted by the U.S. in the Twentieth Century (also the legacy leftover from the British Empire, but the torch has passed from Britain to the U.S.).

To state it more bluntly, it's freedom in America that provides the foundation to secure freedom in other countries that may not have as many rights.

That's one of the reasons you can't just analogously compare the U.S. to these other countries. To see something at work within one country is ignoring the bigger whole, and larger timeline. (another fallacy of composition example)

Freedom to be shot in math class is not freedom

I like gun rights. I also like gun regulations. If you don't like gun regulations you have options to move.

For example here are some regulations:

Students have about as much chance of being struck by lightning on the playground as being shot in math class. It's a silly argument, but then again, that's what I expect from you.

Interesting thought process in the OP but remember this: America was founded on the idea that if you don't like the way things are change them.

I guess if enough people want change then it will happen.

The freedoms in america do nothing to nations of the commonwealth. Nor do they anything for Canada and a whole host of other nations.

You lose your freedoms we will be fine. Infact the world could even be a better place depending on which freedoms were lost.

You've lost more civilians in the last 50 years than in all the wars your nation has ever fought in order to preserve the facility of killing one another more easily. Your osbsolete 18th century second amendment was about arming miltias against the return of the redcoats. Time to bring yourselves into the family of civilised 21st century developed nations. Unless of course you actively like the wanton killing to continue. In which case good luck with that

Since when was freedom defined by having the facility to kill one another far more easily ?

You do know that is not correct if you are referring to Americans with guns killing other Americans?

Well, as you made the statement I would think you would like to provide the facts to prove it but...
America's war deaths in all wars since 1775 total somewhere around 1.35 million.
America's gun murders over the last 50 years have averaged fewer than 20,000 per year.

Here's something to think about: in the last 120 years more than 3.5 million Americans have died in motor vehicle accidents. Maybe Americans should stop driving.
