Are we really at a turning point? Is it significant that Kaku is addressing UFO enthusiasts? Does all the recent activity mean something?

If by a turning point you mean alien disclosure is finally here at last then no it isn't.

Instead, we get the message that we should steal something from the aliens to prove they exist. People might do that if they want to be famous, but, usually, most people tend not to want to talk about it. Hmm, I wonder why?

Many scientists have an interest in the subject but won't talk about it openly. However, some prominent scientists have spoken about it publicly; Allen Hynek and Peter Sturrock being two of the big names going way back.

Back in 2005, the highly respected Journal of the British Interplanetary Society [JBIS] published a paper arguing that it is scientifically and logically justified to look for alien probes.

As for alien abduction claims, a friend once objected on the basis that people making alien abduction claims all seem nuts.

That's an easy one: If aliens came and levitated you from your bed, through the roof, and into the mother ship; stuck probes up your butt and inserted devices in your body, and then gently put you back to bed, you would be a little crazy too. It would be far more incriminating if they weren't a little nuts after allegedly going through something like that.

The fundamental problem is that those purporting to be interested serious scientific investigations in to UFOs continue to fail to distance themselves from the kooks making definitive assertions that shape-shifting lizards rule the world and that governments are keeping intergalactic alien civilisations secret from us. The problem is demonstrated yet again by the range of people described as being at that conference. Of course, the kooks are where all the money is and will be easier to extract that competing against all the established scientific fields for legitimate funding would be.

BS. None of the scientists I've followed have ever associated with the extreme fringe.

Show me where Hynek [do you even know who he is?] or Sturrock [do you know who he is?] ever associated with any fringe group. EVER.

How about Maccabee? Ever hear of him? How about Vallee'. If you don't know any of these names, then you don't have a clue about the world of UFO researchers.

Have they explicitly spoken out against them though? Rightly or not, there is an implicit association in the public eye which would require active effort to counter. Maybe there are individuals like that (and no, I don’t pretend to know much of any of the individuals involved) but what about the nominally professional scientists who attended the event mentioned in the OP, wilfully associating with that extremist fringe? Why are “UFOs” even being defined as a singular field of study in the first place given the known and potential explanations for many cover a vast range of scientific areas? That’s like putting ornithology and aircraft maintenance in the same category. The entire conflict is tainted with the negative connotations so I think anything serious needs to take several clear steps away from all of that.

Wow, that’s quite a story! Man, I wish there were some good clear footage of this stuff.

This guy Michio Kaku is a publicity hound with some ideas I would not subscribe to. I have seen him on TV several times and he, like most UFO researchers seem like crackpots to me.

Telling UFO people "the truth is out there". Well let me state a fact.... The truth is out there about everything. He said nothing.

    I dont believe in abductions.

People see ghosts, angels and demons
Since our bodies make dmt some folks may get a dump of this drug and see aliens.

Lots of New Age folks around. All are a bit touched, imo. The aliens are gonna save us from ourselves!

I don't BELIEVE in abductions either. But if aliens are here, it certainly can't be ruled out.

My point was that you can't rule out abduction clams because alleged abductees sound crazy. If their claims are true, they SHOULD sound crazy.

How then do you account for cases like Travis Walton. Six witnesses allegedly observed him being hit with an energy beam from a giant, hovering UFO. He flew back through the air about six feet and they thought he was dead. They panicked and ran. His friend finally dropped the other men off and went back to look for Walton. But Walton and the UFO were gone. Walton disappeared for I think five days. In the mean time, the six became murder suspects. Five of the six passed a lie detector test administered by the State. The examiner concluded that they were telling the truth about seeing Walton hit with a beam of light from a large, hovering UFO. The sixth failed because he had a criminal record and lied about it. Five days later, Walton returned and claimed he was held by aliens the entire time. He has passed two lie detector tests and failed one on a game show.

The odds of five men lying about a murder case and all passing a polygraph test administered by a career expert, are virtually non-existent. That anomalies were detected with a man who turned out to be hiding information about his past, further bolsters the confidence in the exam.

No reasonable person can dismiss cases like this out of hand. You can choose to believe or disbelieve, but the evidence logically requires an open mind.

Ok it is possible and it would make some unhinged.

I just find it hard to believe as our species can weave some tall tales.

Also I never trusted hypnotic regression . And so many accounts involve this regression.

The walton case may be the exception. But it may be just s story . I cannot know for sure.

But I can know about the tic tac event with extreme confidence.

I have never trusted greer. Too much ego and makes his living from ufos.

Now the new thing are "downloads" from ETs.

Then you have the idea of hybrids. That some claim is a ploy to take over humanity by the aliens.

None of this is backed up by hard evidence. And all of these ideas were preceded by sci fi novels

So I am skeptical on these tsles.

And there is money in these tales . Like the charlatan cory good and his tall tales.

So all the Trekkies schlepped to Spain, violating their Sacred Oath to "save the planet" from "climate change" by eschewing those "greedy oil companies" and listened to Kaku for giggles?

They howl "Absence of evidence isn't evidence of absence" but then howl exactly the opposite when demanding "proof of God." THERE, no evidence is good enough for them, but looking for E.T. , zero evidence is just fine.

Yes you can know. Because it was a murder investigation, the polygraph reports as well as the rest of the events are all a matter of public record.

I didn't see the official polygraph reports linked at wiki but I've found them before.
