By perpetuating it, they actively deny the nature of what was done to them.
If they had to say "Well maybe we shouldn't do this anymore" they'd have to confront the reasons why.
I think on some subconscious level many women who were cut can't stand to see one of their family members intact. It's a constant reminder of something they don't have.

this should be a choice each person makes when they are old enough to make it for themselves - this is something that can never be undone if done to a innocent baby - outlaw both genital mutilation procedures

 

A lot of circumcision happens in the country every day, and virtually none of it in the matter of your linked article. So again, you are once again outside the subject matter of this thread. If you have some sort of cutting commentary (see what I did there?) feel free to create a thread on circumcision, but that's not the subject of this thread, and it's clearly obvious what you are trying to do by throwing stop sticks in this conversation.

I think both should be sex crimes.... I say leave the children's privates alone.. male or female

Agreed. The Jews were the reason they couldn't get a ban passed in San Francisco (it came very close to passing).
Denmark ran into the same problem when a bill to ban circumcision came up in their parliament (it was seriously considered).

Go talk with the member in this forum PeppermintTwist, she's a flaming Progressive Liberal who has vehemently defended the practice of male circumcision, and she also mentioned that she's Jewish.

 

I wonder, with the Left in Europe forming a political alliance with muslims, how long is it going to be until they can no longer prosecute female circumcision?
(or likely they'll just have to get gradually more and more soft on enforcement and punishment, until it effectively no longer becomes a deterrent, and at that point it won't be a big jump to just ignoring the law if it becomes very widespread)

yep, sadly if you give one religion a religious exception to mutilate a child's privates, you have to give the other one as well... the easy answer is to ban it all, let the child decide when he\she is old enough

 

I'm pretty sure the practice would immediately come to a stop if it was the child deciding for themselves when they were older.

Except in cases like that 21 year old girl I linked to, where her parents tried to force her into it.

Male circumcision is like circumcising out her labia minora and clitoral hood, but leaving her clitoris there.

It might even be worse, because the labia minora has only 2000 nerve endings, whereas the male foreskin has 20,000.
In comparison, both the male glans and clitoris contain approximately the same number of nerve endings, 7 to 8000.
That means male circumcision takes away 71% of the nerve endings from the male, whereas the analogous form of female circumcision (if it were done) would only take away 20% of hers.
