Okay, I defer to your clearly wiser, and better-informed, people.

All those million of starving refugees streaming out of Venezuela are merely paid crisis actors.

    Move along, nothing to see.

Venezuela is doing just fine, and Maduro is a fine leader. You've convinced me, Venezuela is indeed a socialist paradise, and we should all move there post haste.

Thank you for splitting that hare.

Now we know that there's very little difference between places where people have so little food that they're starving, and places where there's so much food that people are rolling around on flab carts and eating themselves to death.

Thank you for pointing out the tiny and subtle differences between the two.

    I think he does.
That maybe some top level of sarcasm, though.

I believe he was an 0311 (Rifleman)

But unlike other military services, all U.S. Marines are riflemen first, even REMF's and BAM's too.

That depends on how you define winning.

Personally, I consider the Iraq war to be a giant waste of time, money, and blood.

Apparently, Trump wants a repeat of that disaster in Iran and now Venezuela.

    Trump is obviously an idiot.

I deployed to Iraq during the surge. And I got to see firsthand the abysmal failure that is US foreign policy.

I went back and reread the line of discussion and you are right. I was less than sincere in a statement and I do apologize for my snarky remark.

    I have no excuse.

I love the Kurds. But I do not love them so much that I would inflict suffering on innocent people just to help them out.

If you mean the second surge ....that worked just not enough.

"Failure" of foreign policy by US.....so you're not happy wearing the uniform.....why are you in it.

I'm not in it. I left years ago.

The US empire is crumbling right before our eyes, just like all empires eventually do.

Americans should have listened to the founders and stayed out of European intrigues.

Doesn't matter, dont make excuses....you wore the uniform, as I did.....i dont make apologies.

US is crumbling??? Sure....just as roughly 76000 illegals tried to get in last month...2500/ day, 1 million a year? So if were "crumbling" why would that amount desire to get in? These #s from both CNN &Fox btw.

    Weak argument on your part.

I'm not making any apologies or excuses. Just stating facts.

US foreign policy has been and continues to be a wasteful disaster for the country. And I got to see it up close and personal in Iraq. So much needless destruction and wasted potential, and all based on a pile of lies.

    Yup.

Not even a question at this point.

Simply drive around any big city in the country for an hour and you will see evidence of decay all around you.

Blighted neighborhoods, government corruption and waste, high crime and poverty, roads riddled with giant cracks and potholes, bridges with rust creeping into their support beams, rising prices, etc.

It's the same thing that happened to every other empire in history. And the US is no exception.

Just because the US is in better shape than the places they came from does not mean the US is in good shape. It just means it's less bad than some of the poorest and most unstable regions in South America. Is that the kind of standard you want to have for America? Because from where I'm sitting, it's pretty low. I mean, am I supposed to be gleeful about driving over endless potholes everywhere I go just because the US is better than Venezuela? Honestly, I'm not sure how much worse the roads in Venezuela could be than they are in the Chicago area. And don't even get me started on the disasters that are Detroit, Cleveland, Flint, New Orleans, East St. Louis, Oakland, etc., etc.

Russia not backing down to US threats, will continue military cooperation with Venezuela

A new helicopter training center has been built in Venezuela, the Russian state arms exporter said, pledging to deepen cooperation with Caracas. The news comes amid US threats of sanctions over Russia’s presence in the country.

The training center, built by Russia’s arms exporter, was unveiled on Friday, according to press service Rosoboronexport. The center is designed to train Venezuelan pilots to use such Russia-made hardware as Mi-17 and Mi-26 transport, Mi-35 attack helicopters and others.

“Rosoboronexport and other Russian organizations partaking in the Russian-Venezuelan military-technical cooperation, remain committed to deepening partnership with the defense ministry and other government bodies of Venezuela,” the press service said. The cooperation focuses on training military personnel and servicing the supplied hardware

While military ties between Moscow and Caracas go a long way back, this statement might signal Russia’s unwavering intent to stand by Nicolas Maduro’s government, to which the Venezuelan Army has remained loyal despite the massive US-backed protests gripping the country.

The new training facility was opened at a time when Washington is openly supporting a coup led by the opposition leader, Juan Guaido, who has proclaimed himself as interim president while branding the legitimately elected president a usurper.

Officials in Donald Trump’s administration saw red when planes carrying Russian military specialists landed in Caracas on Saturday. Moscow later confirmed that the arrival was linked to the military-technical cooperation deal sealed in 2001, stressing it does not need any further approval, including by the opposition-controlled parliament.

Since then, President Trump himself has demanded that Russia “get out” of Venezuela, his National Security Advisor John Bolton said that they “won’t tolerate” a different foreign power meddling in the Western Hemisphere, while the US special representative for Venezuela, Elliott Abrams, has outright threatened sanctions on Russia for the move.

“We have a list of options we have given the secretary [of State Mike Pompeo]. There are a lot of things we can do in economic terms, in terms of sanctions,” Abrams told reporters Friday, adding that “it would be a mistake for the Russians to think they have a free hand.”

Speaking outside the White House on Friday, Trump told reporters that he might discuss the Venezuela crisis with Russian President Vladimir Putin. “We will probably be talking at some point,” he said.

    You completely avoided the point.

Just because the US is better than some of the worst places in the world does not mean the US is in good shape.

The US has MAJOR problems that are basically unfixable at this point and only getting worse.

Like many Americans, you choose to respond to this by sticking your head in the sand and waving a flag. You aren't doing this country any favors by attempting to deny or prettify its sickness.

    Poor comprehension on your part.

That the US experiment is failing in so many ways has nothing to do with peasants fleeing their countries.
