Kinda funny but the military has always been a stepping stone for new doctors to transition into civilian medicine.

For instance, I knew a woman that wanted plastic surgery while her husband was in the military. The military was more than eager to perform the surgery as it was practice that would be valuable when transitioning to civilian life.

Whether you think the military should be performing gender transition surgery or not look at the military as a testing ground for untested doctors.

The military medical system does do a certain amount of plastic surgery, since they have surgeons who specialize in reconstructive surgery. However in order to maintain licensing in that specialty, they have to do a certain number of those surgeries a year, so it's very possible that a military member or dependent could get a boob job via military medicine, but they only do the minimum required for certification, so it's a crapshoot.

Pandering to insane people into extreme sexual mutilation should be a criminal offense, and no, the military should not be turned into a mecca lunatics and neurotics just because its a pseudo-intellectual fad among sociopaths to pander to them.

A great many fields originated as "Military Medicine". Specifically trauma medicine, plastic surgery, and prosthetics.

Heck, even movie makeup learned a lot from the military. John Chambers first started to repair faces of wounded soldiers after WWII when he was in the Army, and became highly skilled at it, moving from jaws to doing ears and other parts of the body. But his real fame came when he took those skills to Hollywood, and won wide acclaim in everything from making Spock's ears, to the apes in Planet of the Apes.
