Actor George Clooney is reportedly stricken with malaria following a trip to the Sudan earlier this month.

The actor is "feeling rough," said Piers Morgan, who features the actor on his CNN show Friday night.

"It's his second bout of malaria," Morgan wrote. "Taking medication but feeling rough."

Clooney, 49, has frequently traveled to Sudan and the war-torn region of Darfur in an effort to bring awareness to the possibility of another bloody conflict as the country is positioned to split itself into two.

In a statement, the "Ocean's Eleven" star said, "This illustrates how with proper medication, the most lethal condition in Africa, can be reduced to bad ten days instead of a death sentence."

Clooney's rep Stan Rosenfield told The Hollywood Reporter that the actor contracted the disease during a trip three weeks ago.

Clooney's CNN appearance with Morgan was taped on Jan. 13.

Malaria isn't a big deal anymore...take some antibiotics and you'll be fine.

In the early 1940s 98% of children under age one year in al Hasa had malaria.. until Aramco used DDT to erradicate it..

Why isn't that being done in Darfur?

I was required to take malaria chemoprophylaxis pills on deployments
in areas where malaria is prevalent.

Clooney should have consulted with a doctor before travelling to
sub-Saharan Africa where malaria is rampant.

Larium I think it was, can cause seizures & other fun things. Is it seizures or siezures? I think seizures. Either way, they are no fun. I had one after a trip to a malaria area & wound up making a 3-point landing on the office floor - both toes & my nose - I didn't break the toes, but I did my nose & bled all over a brand new shirt. I didn't make much of an impression on the floor but I sure livened up the meeting I was in.

Probably for the same reason DDT is banned in the US.

The banning of DDT has killed more people around the world than the threat it posed. They need to start using DDT again. It should be unbanned!!!!

Whatever, dude. Clooney is a womanizing (whore) liberal that screws his pet pig. In fact, now I'm wondering how he really contracted malaria. Was it from cheating on his pet piggy?

Yikes. Wasn't prepared for all the mean-spiritedness in this thread. I mean, someone gets sick while trying to do "humanitarian" work, and people ridicule him? I am surprised that he didn't get the proper shots, including malaria vaccine, before traveling... but I'm more surprised by some of the responses here. Not pretty.

No surprise which side of the political spectrum is demonstrating a sneering contempt, ridicule and vitriol here for someone prepared to put his life on the line for his fellow humans. It really seems to me that the conservative rights' sense of self entitlement and narcissism is evolving into almost a pyschopathic lack of empathy for their fellow humans.

Color me stupid, but I frankly don't see the partisian value here. He is a human being. He got sick trying to help poor people. I just don't get the left-right silliness as being particularly germane to the discussion. Kinda makes me scratch my head. There has to be some place to leave political leanings at the door, and just respond like humans... or at least, one would hope so.

Sadly, empathy for our fellow man has become a partisan issue. Many on the right see it as a sign of weakness and regard other cultures as the enemy.

The good being accomplished by Clooney and all those involved with these efforts is far greater than anything anyone on these forums will ever do.

I suppose I might be making a bigger deal out of genocide than it really is. Maybe those who diminish Clooney's efforts are right and he's just an attention whore and made it all up. After all, he is helping people they never heard of deal with problems they never heard of in a place they never heard of

Bingo! It's not like he's Angelina Jolie or anything, who goes and adopts pretty much every little flea-infested rugrat that she can find in whatever third-world (*)(*)(*)(*)hole that she happens to be shooting a movie in and actually takes the kid home with her. Clooney's "save the Sudan" crusade amounts to about as much as Sally Struthers' "save the children for me to eat" eugenics/cannibalfest. Just a lot of smoke and mirrors and very little substance.

Well actually, in this case, it looks like George Clooney actually did take something home with him after all!

The world (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)es and complains that the United States is always in everyone Else's business, how is this any different?
