Ving Rhames was held at gunpoint by police officers in his home after a neighbor reported that a “large black man” had broken in, the actor said on Friday.

“I open the door and there is a red dot pointed at my face from a 9mm [handgun],” the star of Mission: Impossible, Pulp Fiction and other films said on the Clay Cane show on Sirius XM. “They say, ‘Put up your hands’.”

Rhames said the confrontation happened earlier this year and was defused quickly when the police chief recognized him.

So the man can't even be in peace in his home, and I'm sure there will be those that will defend this 1 million different ways.

And of course the neighbor "denied" making the call......

I can argue that police shouldn't greet anyone who opens the front door with a gun pointed at their face.

Until recently this wouldn't have happened, or happen often, but in the current environment they would be STUPID if they weren't prepared...

Don't forget that this happened in California, a state where people don't want to know or socialize with their neighbors, so I'm not surprised one bit that the person who called the cops didn't know him. And it was a woman who called the cops.

They shouldn't pull their weapon until there is a need to use it. Dem da rulz. If they are too scared, find a new job.

Gun in holster - good guys, gun in hand - *******. Who is going to get shot first? LEO's shouldn't have to worry about not gong home after their shift. Current environment would make anyone a little antsy.

You planning on filling in the gaps when the police aren't there due to manpower shortages?

    <Rule 2/3/4/5>

How did the cops know a black guy was going to open the door?

We can debate how the cops handled the situation, but Matt's race baiting is a total dud.

And do beat cops typically have lasers on their sidearms?

This story is starting to stink a little.

The anonymous caller told 911 that a large black man had broken into the house.. Thank God he didn't have a cell phone or remote in his hand.

Use your critical thinking skills when you read.

The neighbor gave that description to the 911 operator.

But I agree that the cop's actions were the true issue regardless of race. If they simply greet him at the door, Rhames probably forgets it completely.

Living in a the city I am aware of what good cops do in a much more dangerous environment. It is the country club cops who can't handle scary situations.

One question is what is this red dot business?

To the best of my knowledge the police are not routinely carrying 9mm handguns with laser dot sights or any other attachment which would create a red dot visible to a person who the gun was pointed at.

SWAT teams might be using sub guns with red dot sights but he was referring to a common uniformed officer

Yeah, have cousin in all black hood who gets stopped all the time for being white. I call it "protect and serve yourself," when they point their gun at people to save a split second, because some hood walks where he moves his hands behind his back as if he any second might pull a gun out of his belt. Why the hell is the multiple offender out there anyway, to make the pigs jumpy, why did the murderer of my grandfather get 15 years and the murderer of a cousin 6, and the execution murderers in Atlanta get 18 months? What are "liberal" inhuman monster so-called "law" going to do next, six months for murder?

Because the petrified neighbor who called the police said there was a big scary black man breaking into Ving Rhames house.

You've made your whole career here with race-baiting posts, Steve. I guess that makes you the judge of pass or fail?

So the cops knock on a door and they expect the guy who broke into the house to answer it - is that what you people are selling??? This story stinks to high heaven.

Thank god he didn't have a remote in his hand? Why? You can assume a guy might get shot for a remote being mistaken for a weapon but the police can't assume a guy who broke into a house might not want to go down easy? Come on, you're better than that. If you start using your critical thinking skills you'd see this whole story sounds bogus.

Might be interesting to see what the body-cam footage shows. Seems like lately we've had a slew of people saying one thing - while the camera shows something else.

A case of mistaken identity which you admit was quickly defused. Getting rather desperate for outrage, aren't you?

That's what I thought too. Actually, my first reaction is that seeing a laser sighting dot from a police officer makes me think he pulled his taser, not his sidearm.

The same thing happened to me. The house I was selling was empty, but I kept the alarm on while I was remodeling due to all my tools being there. I set a special alarm code for the realtors. One realtor didn't see the code in the lock box and set off the alarm. I beat the cops there and found the front door wide open. I had a .38 in my waist band under my shirt. I was in the kitchen when the cops burst in guns drawn and told me to get on the floor. I complied telling them I was the homeowner and I was armed. They cuffed me and relieved me of my firearm and wallet. When they checked the ID it proved it was my house, they cut me loose. Please tell me why Ving Rhames should be treated any different than me?

Perhaps if people weren't shooting them in the head it would be unnecessary.
