People who believe women and minorities are not as capable and therefore need laws that give them preferential treatment are racist and sexist.

It's not that they are not capable. They are VERY capable. It's just that the White male power structure kept woman and minorities locked out of all but low paying, menial jobs for the most part. Things are still not totally equal, but it's better than it used to be, thanks to Affirmative Action. P.S. that law has helped White women even more than minorities.

Some women and minorities are insulted by affirmative action because they want to be judged based on their merit not their race and or gender.

Martin Luther King Jr. dreamed of a day when people would be judged based on the content of their character [their merit] and not the color of their skin [their race]

Do you think Martin Luther King Jr was wrong???

Ryobi, Dr. Martin Luther made the "I Have a Dream" speech in 1963. We are on the verge of 2016. His dream STILL hasn't been realized. This is no where near a colorblind society. You know why? It's because the powers that be do not want a colorblind society. They benefit from the racism.
So, no, I don't think MLK was wrong. Unfortunately, the powers that be do not see it that way. Please reply.

If you believe in affirmative action, you are sexist and racist. If you believe people should be judged based on their merit and their race and gender shouldn't even matter, you're not racist and/or sexist

If America had been established as a free and equal country from the very beginning, there would be no need for affirmative action. The men who established the country ( the Founding Fathers ) were sexist and racist. That is why Affirmative Action laws are needed.
    Do you understand now?

So you're saying white males today are responsible for what other white males did hundreds of years ago before they were born????

    That sounds reasonable, lol.

You either believe what Martin Luther King Jr believed, that people should be judged based on the content of their character, not the color of their skin, or you believe in affirmative action, that some people should be given preferential treatment based on their race. You can't believe in both at the same time. The two ideas are incompatible.

You are absolutely correct those who believe and promote affirmative action are hypocrites and essentially are 'opportunists' subscribing to a double standard in order to take advantage of a politically correct society that always appear willing to coddle the Negroes aka to give them jobs, to give them grocery money, to give them housing, to give them practically everything they demand...and they do not ax....they demand and no matter how much is given it is never enough and unless the political climate is changed(political correctnes scrubbed) the demands will never end....due to the sense of entitlement the blacks have now inscribed in stone in their heads...this mindset of 'entitlement' is what fuels most of the discontent, alienation and anger in the young blacks.....believing they are entitled to much more than they currently are given....this sense of entitlement backed up by what they are taught in our public schools....they are victims... naturally provokes much if not most of the anti-social behavior they exhibit....criminal behavior, violence, drug use etc.

Also having a Negroid President who gives them 'lip service' but little if anything else...further emboldens them....thus the deterioration or regression of racial relations since obama took office. This past summer was bad...the coming one will even be worse.....and obama poses a significant threat himself....determined to enforce gun control by executive action, just recently increasing work visas for foreigners, allowing more and more illegals in, essentially making the border a joke, aka make changes just to be making changes...with no thought of whether they are good or bad...just so he can claim to have actually done something before he has to go....thus he may do a lot more damage before the year is up...a lot provoked no doubt by his seeking revenge on White America for being outed as a phoney and even a worse president than jimmuh carter. .

Name ANY single country established as 'free and equal' from the dawn of history to now.

If they are capable, they wouldn't need a boost, would they?

P.S. that law has made employers assume that minorities and females are less capable than their White male counterparts because of that boost. This contributes to the 'glass ceiling': you must be hired to make up a quota, but you needn't be promoted.

Name any country that proclaimed itself to be free and equal and then practiced unfreedom and inequality. Remember those fancy words "WE hold these truths to be self-evident; that ALL men are created equal" And the man who wrote these nice sounding words was no other than Thomas Jefferson, slaveowner and father of several children by his Black slave. smh.

If they had not been held back, they wouldn't need a boost. Employers who assume minorities and women are less capable are racist and sexist. The glass ceiling reflects the fear of some White males. Why would someone erect a barrier against women and minorities? Can you tell me, Imnotreallyhere? What is the basis of this fear?

Employers who assume women and minorities got their degrees even though they were less capable are accepting a fact. The glass ceiling is a reflection of that fact. The barrier is not against women and minorities, it is against those who are less capable. The fear you mention is a fear of being less competitive.

Understand, if AA were about economic status or academic status rather than race, I'd be all for it. If the bottom economic 2% or top academic 2% got a full ride at a state college I'd have no problem with it. The fact that it's based on race and/or gender is my problem. The fact that some people seem to disregard this fact and call me racist for recognizing it bothers me.

The fear is based on ignorance. Why should White males fear women and minorities being less competitive? That makes no sense. I agree economic status and academic status should be taken into consideration when it comes to giving college scholarships, etc. Of course.
What was so-called unfair advantage called back in the day when only White males benefitted from it? Remember the good old days? When women and minorities knew better than to even think about certain jobs and schools? What is your opinion, Imnotreallyhere?

All the construction workers on streets and buildings in the Twin Cities are all white. This despite the fact that the majority of veterans from this area are black or some other minority.

Those who favor continuing this racist policy of hiring whites only is a racist.

You've made a claim now support it with proof, preferrably from a peer reviewed scientific journal, and a blog is not a scientific journal.

A black President, Attorney General, Sec of State, supreme court justice, minorities all over the staff of ivy league universities. Reverend King's dream did come true. The people invested in the race industry just don't want to admit it - their income depends upon keeping the racism myth alive.
