FTR the Governor DID sign the bill into law!

    https://www.huffpost.com/entry/alabama-governor-signs-abortion-bill_n_5cdc8d70e4b0b4728ba29a22

So what does this tell us about what could happen in 2020?

Alabama is where Roy Moore lost Sessions Senate Seat to the Dems. That seat will be contested in 2020. Alabama has just ensured that WOMEN are going to fight hard to keep that seat BLUE. This will suck GOP resources away from the BLOTUS.

But it gets worse than that because just as Abortion has been abused by the GOP as a way to drive fundamentalist theists to the polls it is going to drive women to the polls in even greater numbers in 2020.

As far as women are concerned they might not personally ever have an abortion but they will stand up for the right for other women to choose for themselves. 25% of women have had abortions so this is something they understand because it was either themselves or someone they know who had one.

Women are not going to allow their rights to be taken away from them!

Women are the LARGEST voting bloc in the nation.

2018 saw a RECORD number of women running for office and being ELECTED to office nationwide.

2020 could be equal or greater to 2018 when it comes to women being involved since they have now been provided with an even greater incentive that the BLOTUS to get out and vote. Young women are the most likely to be impacted by losing their rights and that demographic could be crucial in 2020.

So those 25 white males in the Alabama senate just ensured that ALL women have a reason to vote in 2020 and when women vote in numbers greater than men the Dems win elections.

The election is only just over 17 months away from now.

    Your thoughts?

I do not support abortion. If I was in a relationship with a lady who wanted one it would ruin the relationship.

That said, I support 100% legal abortion until the point birth kicks in, for any reason whatsoever, without any interference from government, and support slashing regulations concerned to whatever degree possible. I support the legality of every abortion, including unregulated back alley abortions.

    Without exception.

Hmm. I thought I'd be to the left of you on abortion, I didn't think you'd support deregulation of abortion provision.

    Kudos!

Both sides are extreme on abortion. One side tells you that there's nothing wrong with aborting on-demand at 6 months and up to 9 months if the doctor gives you a pass, while the other tells you abortion should be illegal altogether.

Just ban late term abortions and be done with it.

Canada has ZERO abortion regulations because they treat it entirely as a medical procedure that is between a women and her doctor.

If we could do the same here in America that would be the optimum outcome IMO.

However that is not going to happen because we have nefarious politicians on the right who are exploiting abortion for their own political advantage.

Banning late term abortions means that women will DIE. Many of those women are already MOTHERS of small children.

Late term abortions are so RARE as to be not worth worrying about. Furthermore they ONLY occur when the life of the women and/or the fetus are threatened. That makes then a MEDICAL DECISION that should be make by PROFESSIONALS and not politicians with an agenda.

If you want to REDUCE abortions there is an EASY way to eliminate up to 40% of them.

But no one wants to know about that sane and reasonable alternative.

Abortion should NOT be a question of law...no more than a haircut should be a question of law.

The question of whether or not to terminate a pregnancy occurring in a woman's body ...should be decided by the woman. I would hope that any woman contemplating such a procedure would first consult with her physician...but she should not have to contend with a legislature.

    Exactly!

It is a tough PERSONAL decision that she needs to make. Been reading some of the twitter responses from women who have had abortions. They are enlightening and I recommend that everyone does so just to hear firsthand as to what it meant to them.

    https://twitter.com/hashtag/YouKnowMe?src=tren&data_id=tweet:1128704831798030336

Women need our SUPPORT to make the right decisions for themselves at that point in their lives. Whatever they decide, either way, is their CHOICE and no one else gets to dictate to them.

You do know that women are not one sided on this issue right? 1/3 of women want it to be illegal in all/most cases. You don't have to be a white knight for women, they are autonomous and can make their own decisions.

Really, Alabama is a state and protected under the 10th A and should have the ability to make this law, sign by the female governor of Alabama if that is what their voters want.

Which part of this statement needs to be explained?

Whatever they decide, either way, is their CHOICE and no one else gets to dictate to them.?

Right, and the voters of AL chose to elect people who would make it illegal to kill another human being in the womb. Glad you understand how the constitution works.

Too bad I can't return the compliment.

Abortion was LEGAL when our nation was founded and the Constitution was written.

That means that the RIGHT to an abortion was one of those 9th Amendment UNENUMERATED RIGHTS RESERVED for THE PEOPLE!

No state can violate the FEDERAL Constitution so Alabama is FOS as far as this VIOLATION of women's rights are concerned.

That the women protesting dressed as handmaidens from the Netflix movie is entirely appropriate.

The Christian extremists have very strong influence in Alabama and the entire south.

Umm, no. That's not how the Constitution works.

States aren't free to trample all over their citizens' rights by violating the US Constitution.

Twitter? Lol. Sorry your Twitter rants are worthless.

However, don't be discouraged we have federal courts and this Alabama law will likely get struck down pretty quickly.

Alabama - the state that just voted to rape a violated woman a second time by FORCING her to carry a rapist's fetus to term.
There is no difference between FORCING a woman to have sex and FORCING a woman to carry a fetus. None at all.

    https://www.waff.com/2019/05/15/alabama-ranked-nd-worst-state-by-us-news-world-report/

There is a reason why it is ranked so badly in comparison to other states and both healthcare and education are harmful to women and children.

I'm all for medical professionals having the latitude to perform an abortion at any time until birth for legitimate medical reasons. I'm also for allowing woman to have the right to abort the fetus for any reason before brain activity starts. That's where I would draw the line.

Two questions, if you will allow them:

    1) How would we determine when brain activity starts?

    2) Are any religious considerations playing a part in your opinions on this issue?
