You call her uneducated in your op. She actually has a degree in economics. You?

I love it that the right is losing their collective minds over her though. Sexy young women with new ideas in public office - horror:cynic:

The NGD is actually something we should be taking seriously and discussing.

The right can never let go of their failed policies of enriching the wealthy and imposing austerity on everyone else all the while throwing the nation into an ocean of debt.

Admitting the failure could actually open up a world of new legislative possibilities but under the current political system we can never admit that our policies are failing ordinary Americans across the board.

"Apparently all anyone has any strength or enthusiasm for is applying a literalism test on Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.)’s all-too-accurate warnings. She said recently that if we don’t start to address climate change aggressively right now, the world will end in 12 years. I know, let’s feign alarm that she has exaggerated instead of having genuine alarm about the genuine problem she is raising the red flags over.

Here’s another idea. Why don’t we apply the same exactitude of judgment on some other things that have been said about climate change? Here’s a sampler:

“Climate change is a hoax.” “The science is unclear.” “If there were warming, we’d see it.” “If we saw it, we’d do something.” “Maybe it’s cooling.” “It’s too soon to act.” “There’s nothing we can do.” “If this is climate change, I’ll take it!” “It’s arrogant to think humans could change the climate.” “It’s cold today, so climate science is wrong.” “Yes, there’s a problem but hardly a crisis.”
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/opin...-years-she-is-absolutely-right/?noredirect=on

12 years is a conservative figure put out by the IPCC which tends towards conservatism with its estimates.

It is likely too late to do anything about the changes to our climate from pumping giga-tonnes of carbon into the atmosphere each year. We bought the ticket and now we are going to take the ride.

But congratulations to anyone who helped spread the fossil fuel industry propaganda that stopped us from doing anything about CC.

You should be very proud of the kind of planet you are leaving for our children and grandchildren.

    IOW, you have no proof.

And normal people who understand that GW is a fact, and that AGW is confirmation science, nothing else.

AOC has an actual degree where she learned it, unlike Trump's fraudulent, absolutely unverified "Degree with Honors" where he ended up even unable to spell basic words and English syntax!

Good thing the USA doesn't make Americans be able to use basic English as a condition of citizenship, ICE would be deporting him out to Mexico!

    Just stop.

Her ideas and the dumb things she says are the reason she is criticized ---- not because she's a woman.

You folks on the left have a really bad habit of doing this. You did it endlessly with Obama too. You can't accept criticism so you dismiss it as "they're only criticizing her because she's a woman" or "they're only criticizing him because he's black".

    Bullsh*t. Just stop.

We would be making the same criticisms if AOC was a white man.

AOC has more common sense in her little finger than Trump has in his entire boddy

Just stop it, Trumpers. You on the right should think about it. You did it foolishly to Obama as well. The criticisms by the rate come only because she is of color and a female and an opponent of Trump.

Come on, stop bringing race into it.It's really pathetic. If Ocasio Cortes lived in Europe, people would think she were Italian, Spanish or Portuguese.Liberals are real racists. They colour people who are actually just a different shade of white.

Lol, I drive a Ram 1500 Ecodiesel Outdoorsman. As soon as they make an electric one or one that runs on cowpies, I'll sell you this one.

You may not like the maintenance costs though.

Born to a working-class Puerto Rican family in the Bronx, New York, Ocasio-Cortez graduated from Boston University, majoring in economics and international relations, and worked for Senator Ted Kennedy's office where she focused on immigration issues while in college.

Yet you give a complete pass to all of Trump's idiotic statements and lies or find Steve Kings blathering idiocy not worth mentioning. Where is the scathing ridicule or sneering contempt there? None of us would be here without rape or incest???????? Not worth comment but AOC's misquote of the IPCC's warning on time frame of action warrants a hundreds of posts and multiple threads?

Methinks you doth protest to much and that if AOC was a white man we would be discussing his platform rather than thread after thread of sexist ad hom nonsense pilloring her intelligence, sex and background.........

Nope, until you guys actually start discussing issues, I'm going to keep pointing out that both Obama and AOC have faced scathing ridicule and personal attacks such as the birther controversy - of which I have seen no conservative on this board disavow - or AOC's intelligence, without any attempts to merit an honest discussion of issues like NGD. The NGD is policy worth at least discussing and debating honestly. The personal attacks are just meant as deflection to shut down discussion.

Anyone who supports Steve King or Donald Trump's racist statements needs to be challenged, whether in this Board or on the street.

    Methinks you are wrong ;)

Sure there are people (on both sides) who ridicule their opponents about silly things which have nothing to do with their ability to do their job, but that doesn't apply to most of us, and it doesn't apply to me. Crying "racism" or "sexism" or anything else rather than addressing the criticism is the act of a weak mind; or the act of someone who knows the criticism can't actually be defended.

I'm an Independent so I don't have a "side", and I'm a woman so you can scratch that accusation too. Oh, and I voted for your beloved Obama in 2008, so I guess you can throw any accusations of racism out the window too. When I criticized him it was because he deserved it, it was not because he was black. When AOC is criticized it is because she deserves it, it is not because she's a woman.

You keep circling back to the NGD, but that's not even really what this thread was about. It was about the hypocrisy of AOC complaining about Trump's rhetoric, while spewing her own.

I guess you're up in arms because the OP called AOC an "uneducated barmaid"? Shrug. Are you as upset when lefties here call Trump a "reality show host" or an "orange turd" or any number of another stupid things which have nothing to do with him as our President?

Gee whiz, this is easy to disprove. Biden, he's a white guy, right? We've got no shortage of threads mocking HIS idiotic statements.

Occasional Cortex is not immune to mockery here and would not be at any gender or color. Nice try, but no dice.

I'm not upset at all. I'm okay with criticism of Trump because of the tweets he uses to attack and name call anyone who dares criticize him. What's good for the goose and all that - also because I genuinely detest the man.

Obama was not my beloved. I criticize his fecklessness all the time. The point is that his race became a rallying point for many including Trump who used the birther thing to rally a certain segment of the American population to his side.

Call me a weak mind if you will but if you think the fact that AOC being a women of colour has nothing to do with all the threads deriding and mocking her including for being a barmaid, I have a plot in Dawson's Creek you might want to buy.
