Someone should have told George Papadopoulos " don't drink with Australians!".

    Who were those Fairsky migrants?
    Regular Brits?
Euro refugees? Even to the late fifties.
    Please share.
I did "search" and wiki Fairsky.

    Gracias

    Dear O.Z.'s

    Do you remember Ben Hall?
And in what manner. Statues. Parks. A villain like Billy the Kid.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ben_Hall_(bushranger)

What was a "bushranger" and what was their reason?
I mean the James Gang was looking for pay back regarding the inequities of the Federal's Reconstruction
after The War Between The States.

Apparently, Hall suffered two wrongful arrests, his stock died and his house burned down while he was in jail, and his wife ran off with a policeman. He soured on law and order as a result.

It has been noted that there were at least eight, and perhaps as many as fourteen Jewish petty criminals among the convict cargo on the First Fleet.
In the 1840s, Jewish congregations were established in Hobart, Launceston, Melbourne and Adelaide. Victorian Jewry expanded rapidly as a result of the gold rushes and increased from 200 in 1848 to 3000 people in 1861.
By the end of the 19th century Jews participated in every facet of civic, economic and social life in Australia. When small numbers of Jewish refugees fleeing pogroms in Russia and Poland began to arrive, the Anglo-Jewish establishment was very concerned. These new Jews spoke Yiddish, were distinctively dressed and were less attuned to British or western European customs. The Establishment feared that the new immigrants would provide the wider Australian community with a new (and negative) image of what Jews were like, and consequently pushed for their rapid assimilation. There were many success stories among this new group, including that of immigrant businessman Sidney Myer, founder of what is now Coles-Myer.

They were working class Brits who were, according to that YouTube video I found, subject to scrutiny to make sure they were both white and non retarded... (Different times).

These were Brits wanting a better life than the one WWII dealt this country with shortages and rations and bombsites/rubble everywhere.
My grandmother who's family went made the decision to stay here in London (because she had a teaching job/career here she didn't want to leave)... My mother was a preteen then and wanted to go and resented my grandmother for staying in England and keeping her here with her.
Those were regular working class folk who wanted a new life for themselves...

Australia feared the Yellow Peril, a term I've heard growing up (because I was raised by that same maternal grandmother who's family left in 1959).. A term I also heard in that YouTube video documentary I found about it this week and shared in here.

The fare was £10.00 but in reality, it was £120.00 according to that video, which was half a year's wages for the common/working people who went, but both the UK and Australia subsidised it giving white non retarded Brits a chance to go for £10.00

I guess people were openly racist back then.

The same thing happened to my country from the West Indies/Caribbean.
It was a £50.00 fare to come to England and those settlers came over on the Windrush and... Were housed in near by Brixton in South London upon arrival to sign on at the local Labour Exchange (what we call a Job Centre today) there.

Today, we have people from all over the EU as well here because of the EU's migration policy.
So people from all over Europe/the EU live, work and start/raise families here.

And then those refugees and famine people from India who, got kicked out of Africa and came here (which were actually both my neighbours of the terraced house that I grew up in - they were part of that mass migration).

    Back to Australia...

Has anybody seen that soap Neighbours?
They show that here too and in the 1990s growing up, I used to sort of have to watch it since my sister was into it and... It's also why I'm attracted to Australian women lol.

RE: Australia being a prison colony -

TBH... I think England shot itself in the foot with that one....

It was a crime in England back then, to challenge your boss...
I heard of a group of men who met in secret with the intention to challenge their boss to ask for better working conditions...
They were caught, found guilty of this (because the working man had no rights) and sentanced to exile in Australia...
Leaving behind all the Dickheads and shipping all the ones who dared ask for more away to Australia.

In turn though, we sent all our Bible bashing Puritan prudent wet blankets to New England in North America/USA so, mass migration wasn't all bad.

We picked a big, resource rich country with great weather, awesome beaches and a huge ocean between us & the USA. Don't see how we could have been much smarter than that? :)

Indeed we do, now that we are no longer compelled to drink the swill the big brewers pump out.
