In another pitch, Frodo is the black hobbit who is almost at retirement, when Gandalf forces him to partner up with Sam, the white hobbit who is a maverick who breaks all the hobbit rules while dealing with a personal tragedy. Although they are sent to try to get the goods on Sauron, they gradually realize that Sauron, besides wanting to take over middle earth and rule in eternal darkness, also caused the death of Sam's wife. This time it's personal.
Here's a pitch that might fly in the current year. The sexes are reversed, and Sam and Frodo are female hobbits who work in Lake town. Sam (Samantha) works in the fishing fashion industry and Frodo is a writer for Lake Town's biggest newspaper. Together they slut it up, banging various hobbits, elves, dwarves, humans, and if the drinks really get flowing, Orcs. It's Amazon so they can make this unsafe for the kiddies.
In Law & Order: Middle Earth, the focus is on the investigation of various crimes in Hobbittown rather than the personal lives of Frodo and Sam. Each episode starts with a murder or accusation of sexual abuse and Sam and Frodo wearily work through the investigative process, sometimes following dead ends until finally they get their man, or other hominoid creature.
