It's been two decades since 9/11. America is not the same - and never will be.

"Twenty years after the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, the nation — still in the grips of the deadly Covid-19 pandemic and stunned by the chaotic end of the Afghanistan War — continues to grapple with the aftermath of that day."

Remembering those that died, those that did heroic acts during that day, and those that survived but live with scars

It can be rather disappointing when some make events like this a political and partisan issue. Can't we all just be PEOPLE on these occasions....??

Unfortunately it demonstrates just how fractured and divisive the country is now. We did have one brief shining moment of american UNITY.....during the horrific event.........but it didn't last long.
It almost seems that tif the country doesn't have an outside entity to be united against........it starts fighting within itself. This infighting is a vulnerability and a weakness.

True. It doesn’t help that our media makes
money pitting people against one another. And the thing is, one side has far more pieces in place and influence in spreading division.

Nor does it help that our politicians make money and gain power by pitting people against one another.

The United We Stand post by MJ Davies is where I wish this nation was, but I don't wish that day to ever happen again to the U.S. (or to any land) to get us there.

Unfortunately, we are more divided than ever before and only spiraling downward. It is very sad.

From a person that was in our nations capital 20 years ago today, God Bless the families of those who died on this day. Those on the planes that lost their lives. And those first responders that ran to the danger trying to save lives without any consideration for their own.

We can choose to stand on the far right or the far left letting this fractured nation crumble just a bit more each day or we can take a couple of steps towards the middle as a people. We can let go of our hatred of those who may have a different opinion than us and embrace the freedoms we have been gifted for nearly 250 years.

    We choose our future!

Also don't forget we have to overcome the damage done by having a lying thief in the White House for four years.

Well it is a political forum after all, we come here to discuss the politics so I find @US Conservative 's post to be appropriate. And under the premise of politics; "America: 20 years after 9-11" is going to mean different things to different people. It certainly meant something specific to Pres Biden who went out of his way to include Muslims in the ranks of the victims of that attack. That sentiment, and his handlers decision to include it in the speech, was a political move in a number of ways.
    • Muslims we're not the victims, they were the perpetrators. Obfuscating that is on par with a common leftist theme of denying the cancerous elements within the special interest groups it courts; the violent thug elements of black culture, the drug and child trafficker elements of illegal immigrant culture, the terrorist elements of Islamic culture.
    • This President has a history of such, explicitly when it comes to terrorist Muslims as during his time as VP he served that administration's agenda of sanitizing all mention of Muslim/Islam when it came to terrorism.
    • We're also currently being inundated with Afgans which, similar to the Obama administration's Syrian inundation, we're finding countless examples of the inability and unwillingness to properly vet these people. Did you see the thousands of Afgans having free roam of Fort Pickett and an undetermined but not insignificant number simply walking off the base without any resistance whatsoever? We are beckoning another attack, and we are proving the Taliban the best possible opportunity they could ever hope for to get their sleepers in here at a time when they can basically walk right through the front door. The ramifications of this are a strong reminder that Middle Eastern tribal Islam is our enemy and yet this President is choosing to ignore yet another massive failure of his actions and invoking 'anti-Muslim hate' as a distraction for it.
So clearly politics is very very much at play so I say lets talk about it.

A "peaceful religion" known for the War Verses in its holy book, including one (IX:29) that was fabricated whole cloth from a mythical Byzantine military expedition by the Emperor Heraclius that never happened.

As for Biden, his gratuitous gestures are to be expected from a cuck who takes orders from the Islamists in Afghanistan who, according to the UN, haven't changed their relationship with the jihadist group that massacred 3000 Americans 20 years ago today.

Welcome back to the pre-9/11 world...

Our elected officials are what divide us much more than the issues. Biden's an idiot. Trump's an idiot. And we are idiots for continuing to elect these people that do not care one bit about the people.

We never forget the partisan left who can't even have a discussion about 9/11 with them regurgitating their Trump phobias proving their hatred for Trump is more important than the people who gave their lives on 9/11.
    Thanks for reminding us.

Oy vey! He should have stayed away from that. Islam is founded on war by a person who participated in war. Christianity was founded on peace by Jesus who practiced peace. Clearly there are peaceable Muslims, especially American Muslims. But to say that Islam is a peaceful religion really misses the mark, especially on the anniversary of 9/11 when radical Muslims murdered three thousand innocent people in America.

Thanks for reminding me. Let's not forget that the attitude displayed by Agent Orange toward COVID could likely have caused as many deaths as we suffered on 9-11.

A few reflections about the 9/11 attack, 20 years later:

With age comes wisdom. (hopefully). I remember seeing the north tower fall as if it was yesterday. My office had a clear line of sight and I and two others were sitting and watching the North Tower burn. The hole from the plane impact was clearly visible. I was focused on the antenna on the top of the building while I was talking with my co-workers. I stopped talking when I noticed a change. The antenna appeared to shorten and as I focused intently to figure out what was going on, the entire building just folded down and disappeared from view. My first thought was, a whole bunch of firemen just died.

In the days immediately after the attack, I and everyone around me went through a series of moods, perhaps not in the same order. Sadness, grief, anger, frustration, helplessness and fear were all there. There were also urges to reach out to family, neighbors, friends and even strangers with sympathy, empathy and assistance. While I remember the day of the attack, the weeks and months after are something of a blur. I remember giving blood and being glued to the TV and internet and I remember them playing and re-playing and re-re-re-playing the hit in the South tower for months after the event.

In the years after the attack, there is no doubt that, both individually and as a group, our view of the world around us, both close by and distant, changed dramatically.
I would compare this event to the first month of the Iranian hostage crisis. There was a mean mood in the air and a bloodlust that was almost palpable. The enormous difference was that in the first case, the enemy was in plain sight. A nation. In the second case, the enemy was hidden, unseen and out of reach. The enemy was not a nation but a cause, an idea, complete with faithful fanatics. The manifestation of that enemy was in many countries, including allied countries and might even have a presence in our own country. Now, in order to fight back, it would require an understanding of the enemy. We would have to do some homework, study and learn some history to understand what was going on and , at the very least, how to identify the enemy.

I'm going to leave it off here. I could go on for pages. I hope you read this and consider it in the spirit that it is offered.

How many deaths is Biden then responsible for? What about Pelosi and her trip to China Town? Absolute nonsense partisan hackery.

I remember endless news media propaganda in the wake of 9-11 trying to make sure everyone knew Islam was the "Religion of Peace" and what happened was only the result of just a small number of fundamentalist muslims with extremist beliefs.

Never mind an Al Jazeera poll conducted in the Arab Gulf countries that found that over 1 out of 3 respondents believed America "got what it deserved" on that day.

I'd also like to know how Afghanistan was able to fall back into the hands of the Taliban if it was truly only a "small number" of muslims with fundamentalist extremist beliefs.

apparently god is on their side, if you buy into organized religion. They slew Goliath. They have killed multiple goliaths.

Luckily I don’t buy into organized religion. Religion makes societies do crazy ****.
