The minimum wage for an American is $ 7.5 per hour, or about $ 1,500 per month. Tax is not withheld from this amount. - Rental housing costs at least $ 600 - utilities are also about 600 dollars. The balance is 300 dollars. Americans, how do you live on 300 dollars?
Minimum wage was never meant to provide a so-called livable wage. BTW; the federal minimum wage is $7.25/hour. Some local MW are as high as $12.50/hour with many talking about $15/hour. As a percentage very few Americans earn minimum wage. Beyond this you need to consider the cost-of-living in every local area to understand how livable the MW might be...SF is surely different than Mayberry RFD...
I understand it. But the whole trick of American or Russian propaganda is to show the inadequacy of the minimum wage in another country. I showed you that the minimum payment of an American is insufficient to pay rent and utility expenses. Not to mention the purchase of an apartment. Medicine and university education are also not available. Now, Russia ... The minimum wage is 10,600 rubles. Per month. This is not enough either for rent or for buying an apartment. Medicine and Education are free. Finally, the USSR The minimum wage in the city is 80 rubles per month. Apartment, Medicine and Education are free. Socialism will win. By the way, you say that rarely anyone gets the minimum wage. Well, take the average ... In America, in 2016 it is equal to 54,000 per year. Calculate your expenses and savings. If you compare with similar in Russia, then: - in Russia is not available to purchase an apartment - In America, university education is not available. Savings are about the same 100 dollars per month In the USSR Apartment, medicine and university education was available to all. Socialism will win.
And that is an error! Allowing a minimum wage to not even manage physical efficiency is bad economics.
You can live on minimum wage. Hell, people in Bangladesh live on a couple dollars a day. But what you're doing isn't "living" at that point, it's "surviving".
Guess what Social Security is paying me to live in high cost California per month? $1,177 per month. Explain to me how Obama allowed this to happen when he was president? And his sycophants brag about the man. Trump is giving me a larger raise than those from Obama too.
He was unfortunately all mouth. You need Bernie or someone of his ilk. Someone who will genuinely change things, rather than status quo merchants like Obama or cretins like Trump.
You get 4 roommates to share expenses, and then gather work experience that will qualify you for a better paying job down the road. Kind of how it was done in the past, until today's younger folks confirmed they can't figure that out.
It's amazing how so many people forget what the economy was like back in Oct 2008. We were losing 700,000 jobs a MONTH, and that was before Obama was even sworn in. My District was beginning the first round of layoffs that would result in 30% of its teachers being laid off. I don't know if any other President and Congress could have pulled us out of that tailspin, but I know Obama and the Democratic Congress did, and for that they get a lot of credit.
Yes, and the New Deal turned about to be 16 years of Depression and 6 years of World War!! Hope we can have another libcommie new deal!!
Actually Obama had worst economic record of all American presidents. He was only one in history to not have one year of 3% growth. Stands to reason since he was socialist anti business!
We were already years into the Great Depression when the New Deal was passed. And America didn't fight WW2 for six years.
I'm sure he was socialist and anti-business. But that has nothing to do with some artificial metric like "annual 3% growth". The fact there was ANY growth AT ALL, and not a double-dip recession, is amazing, given the economy Obama had to deal with when he became president. Were you one of those Ron Paul gold bugs who put all their money in gold and silver and swore hyperinflation was right around the corner?
The New Deal didn't work as it should as Roosevelt was too conservative. He didn't even appreciate Keynes. Keynesianism was forced on the US via world war
But there's an important lesson for today. The Democrats continue to be too conservative. For example, if they hadn't deliberately warped the Sanders-Clinton result, the world wouldn't be now having to deal with Trump tantrum
Unfortunately, the Democrats have to operate in a system that gives outsized influence to conservative rural areas through the Electoral College and Senate. If we had a parliamentary system, the government would be much more liberal. Not liberal enough, but not the dystopian nightmare we're currently living in. There's also a perverted ruthless strong evangelical movement and they have their fingers in a lot of pies. Are you American?
I don't agree. The Democrats were like Britain's Labour Party (and I am English). They deemed, quite naively, that the traditional median voter model operated and therefore they had to be right wing. Britain learnt the lesson, with Corbyn replacing the careerists. Unfortunately, for us all, the Democrats didn't. By skewing the result towards the hawk Clinton, they ensured Trump's election. Those involved should be ashamed and do everything they can to aid the grassroots Democrats trying to put it right.
Trump doesn't happen in a vacuum. America is a mess. You have to live in this culture to realize how profoundly messed up it is.
