What does Dias' voyage have to do with anything of what you claim? Nothing. You have yet to cite a single source. What history books?

Here is a bit of enlightenment for you

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavery#Europe

The pope issued the permission to take pagan slaves before the discovery of the Americas. Ergo you are wrong. Africa didn't reintroduce slavery. Europeans did to enslave Muslims.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dum_Diversas

I think you read the wrong history books. But I would be interested in knowing your sources.

You are very funny. Canadians are a smug lot. If you google racism in Canada, you will be amazed. Especially read the Maclean's article about how racism in Canada is even worse than in the US. How Winnipeg is your most racist city and how the Aboriginal Canadians are treated horribly with the Blacks being second. Before Canadians go spouting off about how much better they are, they should really do some research and find out how they can fix the problems in their own country. And by the way, it sounds as if Canada's new prime minister's claim to fame, is that he has a trick where he falls down stairs without getting hurt. He sure sounds like a winner to me.

If saying that giving Natives special privileges and exemptions and making everyone on reservations into permanent welfare moochers is a bad thing, and that it would not only be better for taxpayers but for the living standards on Matives if they were treated the same as everyone else and became part of society like every other Canadian is comsidered racist, I am quite happy being racist.

I posted earlier about racism in Canada including toward native Canadians. Read the thread before you post.

What? Is that some kind of code for admitting you were wrong?

Man up to your mistakes. Or are you weak?

2015 is not a good time to be a white, Christian, heterosexual, mild mannered, polite, tax paying male.

At the top of the social ladder are black, lesbian, socialist, handicapped, angry, atheist females.

I suppose it would be a combination of my local murder rate and who is doing it, combined with BLM going nuts every time a young black man dies...as long as it's by a white Cop. If they paid as much attention to young black men killing other young black men they might seem less pissy to me. Of course...this would require a new cable network.

Of course. They should care more about gang violence by idiots than the state killing them and disproportionally targeting them. Really?

Ever wonder why many racists don't think racism is a problem?

    YES....Really!

So a few guys are shot while acting stupid or committing a crime by people charged to stop people from acting stupid and committing crime. Also because the majority of these people who become certified and are qualified to do so are not black they get upset when these non black people stop the criminal or stupid from hurting others because they are not black. Added to this FACT would be the lack of interest shown for obeying or supporting the laws in place to avoid the core of the problem in the first place.

Simply put, if someone wanders in strange woods often enough...they are more likely to get lost than someone walking down the street. And it may be a good idea to clean up you own house before calling the neighbors place a mess.

Hm. I am under the impression that institutional racism is not just a figment of their imagination. Furthermore it has because of technology been captured at ever greater rates and some incidents are quite horrendous.
You seem awfully biased to be honest. To me they seem to address issues in their society which you simply dismiss as nothing. Then you use violence in black communities to divert the discussion. Not really something that gives me faith about your argument.

There is obviously a measure of racism in many institutions, particularly law enforcement and the courts. Had you understood the analogy you would know I understand this and get my point...I will however, attempt clarification:

The police are far more likely to confront and deal with those breaking the law. Therefore those doing so have a higher risk of bodily harm from police actions. As there are more crimes committed in certain areas the police presence is increased in order to deal with it. If these area and crimes are linked to a particular thing, that thing will be scrutinized more than other things. If said thing is found to be a cause of the crime and problems the police must try to deal with, that thing must be eliminated to succeed.
I agree that technology has brought many societal issues to the forefront that they can be addressed...this is a good thing. My point was that the way this particular issue is being addressed seems counter productive and will not fix the problem.

Racism is still very much here. It is subtler, yes, but it is here, and it not just Blacks that suffer from it. Blacks are just the tradtional icon, but really, racism is just ostracism and disenfranchisement of one group by another group. It's basically just degrees of prejudice. We have this prejudice against anyone who falls in our political crosshairs. Gays, democrats, republicans, socialists, communists, abortionists, Middle-Easterners, Russians, teachers, unions, women, red necks and hillbillies, refugees and immigrants...you get the picture.

Slavery began so very, very long ago- perhaps at thee very beginning. This is not the point. Europeans did not come to Africa out of good-will or explorational zeal. They came looking for resources. They were Colonialists, as is clearly displayed by the Age of Imperialism. They arrived on West African shores and gave the coastals an alternative. We attack you or you can ally with us and we help you with your enemies. This strategy has been employed time and time again in many regions of the world. No, Africans are not without guilt in this, but this was not a purely African thing- as if slaves were just tossed at Europeans and they had no other choice but to except. The Africans, for the most part, were forced into the type of slavery- thee worst type and the most intense type- by the European invaders. You can bet slavery existed in the Americas also before the arrival of Europeans, but the intensity was no where near what was introduced after the Europeans arrived. As murder, theft, and such crimes have different degrees, so to would slavery.

As for introductions, slavery was introduced to the West by the Romans...or the Vikings...or the various groups within northern Europe, themselves. The Vikings would raid and sell their slaves south towards the Middle east. The word slave comes from Slav. The armies of Charlemagne and other western imperialists at the time would invade Eastern Europe and force their people to work the mines for the wealth of such states. Africa did not introduce slavery to the West. Unfortunately, the concept of slavery is universal, though, in a way, since Africa is the progenitor of the human race, all things good and bad came from Africa...but that is a stretch, lol.

The west never moved on from slavery. Slavery occured after the Roman Empire and, technically, still exists today. It's just disquised in various forms. Instead of nothing, the modern form of slaves are given next to nothing. The racism validates this by saying that "these peoples were degenerates and they had nothing before us so they should be happy with whatever we give them as it can only be conceived of as beneficial and progressive". As with all things, nothing is as overt as it used to be. War is no longer about the advancement of glory or religious mandate or the advancement of a people or power or prestige in the world. Whether it be China, Russia, the US, Israel, or whomever, they all more or less state that they do it for the best, noblest, and most selfless intentions.

Again, this is not to say that White people are inherently evil. This is not to say that Black people anywhere or everywhere are innocent martyrs to an oppressive regime. It's just how the board is shaped now. Roman citizens considered themselves peaceful and civil and didn't seem to realize that their glorious empire was reared out from similar barbarity by more barbarity, killing, theft, and extortion. The Britains were slaves and a colonized people before they became the masters of the world and they, too, believed themselves to be kind and just and civil to their subordinates. So to with Egypt- both when it was ruled by darker African and light. So to with the Arabian and Islamic empires. So to with China, you get the point. There was racism in each of these societies. You have to re-examine things. Why do you think we can effortlessly walk around with products we know have been made in sweatshops and other such labor-farms all around the world. Our coffee, our tea, our phones, our electronics, or rubber, or cloths...what validates this in our minds, that we deserve this and those other people don't deserve what we have. (mind you, I mean all Americans too, regardless of race) It's because we think we're better, we think we are entitled because of our relative labor, and we have been taught to perceive these people so subjected to this extortion as having deserved it in some way. Their culture is backwards, their leaders don't care, etc, and no one points out how we have had an active hand in shaping those leaders and enforcing the policies that create these miserable conditions in places both outside and inside the US. And now, the US is not the only one doing this, but it doesn't clear us of the guilt to point fingers.

Sorry for the long post, but it seemed necessary. I absolutely understand you sentiment in defending yourself from what you perceive to be as unfair criticism or slander. No group likes to admit it's own wrongs. But how we conceive our relative innocence is just an example of how far reoved we are from the processes that serve to harm or oppress others. For instance, many of America's farmers are being extorted and manipulated by the agricultural business. Year after year, more and more become tenant farmers subject to outrageous demands by these groups. Many people do not know this. They simply go to the store and pick up their food and the only argument you might here is that the price is too high. The problems of others largely go unfelt by those who benfit from them.

The reason why racism persists is because others benefit from it and will willingly allow it, or turn a blind eye to it, if it means securing for themselves a better position. This goes for anyone....everywhere. It's not absolute, but it seems to be the common thing. Had Africans ruled the world, I do not believe it would be different.

Racism is a problem. Very small one. Nowhere near as big as the media and politicians make it out to be.

White people think it's a big problem for the same reason they voted for obama. Racial guilt.

Minorities might even go as far as to call them racist for trying to deny a problem that they present.

"You're just racist" is the best argument minorities could have because than the person in question has to tred very carefully.

But it's funny how people are jumping on this thing IN THE WAKE OF THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.

That being the case, it's obviously that the motive for this Fad is politicaly driven.

Most Americans think racism is a problem. And most Americans arn't racist.

    Hows that work?

Racism is a problem. A very small one.
