It's actually an established fact that Coke and other vendors made deals with schools to share in the profits in order to supplement school funding.

You are making excuses. Most people know that sugary sweets and junk food in excess will make them fat. They just don't care. That is the same reason why people don't exercise.

I agree that it is a form of a child abuse or at least negligence.

Food deserts are defined as parts of the country vapid of fresh fruit, vegetables, and other healthful whole foods, usually found in impoverished areas. This is largely due to a lack of grocery stores, farmers' markets, and healthy food providers.

The evidence that it's more than just not caring is proven by the fact that we didn't have this problem 30 years ago. And we didn't have vending machines in schools 30 years ago either. And P.E. programs were common.

When I eat something sweet my question before eating it is this, "Is it worth the extra weight you might gain?" That cools down my sweet tooth. It has to look and taste really good, or it isn't worth eating. Manufactured sweets never taste as good as fresh fruit.

It might be a thyroid problem, you think? Surely she would have lost some weight before she took the position.

    Don't hate me ....

I can't gain a pound no matter what I eat or how much.

I can only gain weight by working out and building muscle. The most I've ever weighed in my life was 185 after Army basic training because of the added muscle.

I have found that is starts at breakfast. If I have a high protein and low or zero carb dinner, I am good for 24 hours without another meal. If I were to have a high carb breakfast, I would be scarfing down food every few hours.

The existing degenerate environment of greed forces new entrepreneurs to compromise their moral convictions and adopt cunning ways, first for their businesses to survive against the unscrupulous competition, and later, after testing the fruits of corrupt methods, to prosper. This craving for quick gratification is evident in mature and growing economies all over the world. Look at how processed food is made unhealthy with harmful preservatives and cheap ingredients, the quality of food in chain restaurants has degraded over the years, farm produce is made unhealthy by high-breeding, and the quality of dairy products by rampant use of hormones and antibiotics.

As the quality of food is reduced, body needs more of it to acquire the necessary nutrients essential for the functional survival. But in poor quality food each bite contains more toxins. The toxins accumulate, hampering the healthy functionality of the body. After the accumulation crosses a threshold, the body goes in the survival mode, choosing the least essential organs and systems to store the toxins. Normally the first one is the digestive system. This keeps degrading the digestive power. This in turn, increases the need for food intake, acquiring even more crud in the process. Then kidneys, respiratory and blood systems are next. Also, as an organ gets into the danger zone, when too many cells are dying faster than the body can create, cancer switch gets turned on. The body's intelligence is very high. It will fight hard to keep its self alive. Just like an army would sacrifice small detachments, in order for the rest of army to survive, the body dies step by step.

The U.S. seems to be leading the way in such greedy health degrading enterprising. This makes the nation fat and unhealthy, requiring more medical attention. On the other side, medical drugs/treatments are marketed at exorbitant prices, and once they are in circulation, our medical drug industry shows instances of suppressing and discouraging immerging cheaper/better remedies, and of suppressing discoveries of dangerous side effects. The common man is getting squeezed from every side. The subtle influence of the rich on our legislature keeps the health laws from passing. Also, the low wages make it hard for the downtrodden to eat healthy. We go for the cheap fast, frozen and preservative added foods to meet our budgets. Our society is losing from every side.

Could be, but maybe not. I've known some pretty fat people that did not have anything wrong with them. Like I said earlier in the thread, it used to be that you would see one or two fat people around per day. Now they are everywhere. You can't tell me that they all have a "thyroid problem."

We didn't have this problem 30 years ago because we didn't have children who stayed in the house all day every day, playing on their phones, computers, etc.

People used to ride bikes, go for hikes and do other things to get physical activity. We keep coming out with new technologies that make it so that we don't have to do anything! That and the quality of food. There are people who eat fast food every single day. All of these things are contributing to obesity.

I don't know. I weigh what I weighed as a senior in high school, and I'm 61 now.

    Yuk!

But I drink a few pale ales every night. That counts, right? Come to think of it ....

I think soft drinks have much more sugar (or fructose) in them than any beer or ale. Soda is VERY fattening, and people don't realize that. Some people drink nothing but soda.

I'm not a lot bigger than I was in high school. Well, I used to be a size 1, and now I'm a size 3 or a 5 (depending on how big or small the pants run).

Thanks. I got real thin for a while a few years back. I got sick and I couldn't eat, and I lost a bunch of weight and then had a hard time putting weight back on. I was back down to my high school size (or maybe even thinner). I looked terrible though. I look much better with a little more weight. I think I probably weighed around 90 pounds then, but keep in mind that I'm short too. I'm only 5'1".

Being too thin (if you aren't naturally really skinny) can be just as unhealthy as being obese. I know, some people are just built that way though.
