An observation about the Gabby Pettito case

I'll readily admit that if you set out on a months long road trip with me, one of us would end up dead and one of us would end up behind bars. It is just a matter of which one. I find nothing more miserable than traveling by ground for more than a few days at a time.

That said, the numbers of people who have died trying to get the perfect selfie for their social media are legion. I have sworn off social media. It is just too corrosive and exploitative.

 

I think they were both high on something. Mushrooms, acid, - who knows what.

 

That's all he has and whet happens when the cash runs out? You can run, but you can't hide. They will find the killer eventually.

 

It has gotten to the point that you can't trust anyone these days.

 

I plan when I retire to do some vanlife around the country, so option 4 is retirement

 

What do you mean by "some vanlife"?

Because there's a big difference between taking extended vacations in a camper van, and going all in and making a rolling bum shack your primary domicile.

 

like visiting every state in the country, many of those bum shacks as you call them are pretty nice living spaces... not cheap either

if I live long enough and am able, maybe do Canada too

glad I am not retiring now though, they are way overpriced, but the more they sell now, the cheaper used ones will be then, right now they are selling faster than they can make them, long wait times for many - they are also improving every year, getting better and better

 

That's one of our options too, and maybe even drive down to Panama.

Panama is where the road ends. There is no road connecting Panama to Colombia. If you want to go further South you need to put the van in a ferry which will take you around the jungle.

 

The van these two crazy kids were tooling around in looked pretty bare bones. A rolling shack was a pretty good description of it.

In order to make it a tolerable long-term endeavor, I'd say you'd have to make the jump from "van life" up to "RV life".

And, like you said, that can get really EX-PENSIVE.

I just traveled the road for 32 days w/ my wife of 17 years. We don't hide our warts and "fantasize". If (when) we argue, we see it through. We keep short accounts. We don't go to bed angry. Maybe part of that is the difference between marriage and "friends with benefits"!

 

I agree it was never perfect but....it was a little more genuine. We communicated more face to face, it being tougher to deceive. The facade of FB, Social media, and even texting to an extent, aids in that deception.

When I was at the Capitol building in DC, I happened upon a couple that lived in their RV and I took photos of them for their purposes. They and I came from CA and it was fun running to a CA couple.

This was before Democrats needed to fence off the Capitol due to an election.

They sold the CA home and were residents of the RV.

Admittedly though, she has a point. There are a lot of missing person's cases but this was a pretty white girl so...

Things would have taken a turn back in Moab Utah had things been handled differently. From what I saw on the news Gabby was told this was a time she could make her break and it would have worked out much better if she had taken her van and headed back to Florida. It was her chance. The deadbeat boyfriend could have caught a bus to back home then he could have tooled around the state in his late model Mustang searching for a different victim to terrorize. Wish there was a way Mothers and Fathers could instill more self worth in their children so they wouldn't fall prey to these Ogres!
