No, because the initial quote sends the indication to the user that I have quoted him. Then I parse each section of that quote down in to blocks using the copy paste method. That way each quote still has the username indicator from the initial quote showing which user said which.

If you want to quote multiple users in one shot, click the little multi quote button and an arrow should appear. Then go to the next user and click their mutli quote and another arrow should appear in place. Once you have selected all the posts you wish to quote, click the Reply button at the bottom and all of the posts should appear.

NOTE TO MODS (and everyone else)
One thing I have noticed is that once you click this multi-quote button, it stays as such even if you have already posted. Which means if you click quote and/or reply later in the thread, all your previous multi-selected quotes will appear again.

Tutorials are a great way for people to learn the site. I'm good at figuring my way around due to many years of message board experience, but for new users, it can be quite daunting.
the user is Silhouette. It can be quite frustrating.

Sorry, one more: Habitually linking to one's own threads when posting in other threads as a means to drive traffic to them. Thought we used to have a rule on this, but I don't see it (or just missed it) in the rewrite.

Wow, I multi-quoted! Would you look at that, unbelievable! Well I certainly learned something useful. Thanks for your participation in this quoting exercise Perriquine.

But doesn't that lead to you getting two 'you have been quoted' even tho I'm just quoting one post? Wouldn't that be confusing?

This is something I'd reccomend PF to do. I mean, I just learned this after 3.500+ posts so it's good for older members too.

I think some of these rules are great in theory.... but it will all come down to how they are applied. There are several users in the Current Events forum who have never posted a OP that would get past these new rules. It would be nice to see that change and some real debates start instead of endless dribble on stereotypes that qualifies as discussion.

Thanks for mentioning that. It's a real pain having to jump around to locate the previously selected posts in order to deselect them.

I didn't suggest it for people who couldn't control themselves, I suggested it for those of us who want to let loose without worry about getting banned or upsetting man children.

Seems to be alot of crybabies who can't take heat.

It would just be cestpol that would bring the whole site down. And what would be the gain? Nothing.

Of course it'll be a cesspool. But a sub-forum isn't capable of bringing a site down. If people don't want to post in it then they don't have to...

I think we can all agree that a mod free sub-forum would take alot of negativity out of the other forum sections and concentrate it there. It would IMO clean up the forum.

Or it will just be a place for poster to (*)(*)(*)(*) each other off and when they engage in discussion outside of that sub forum they'll still be pissed off at each other and it will spill over. PF already has problems with its reputation as a trollish stormfront-lite site, and a subforum like this wouldn't do it any good. I prefer cleaning up the forum by banning people who can't control themselves rather than let them have their own section. stuff costs money too.

Nope. You only get a notification when you press the quote button. If i press it once, then copy/paste it down into sections, the system still see's it as one quote, rather then many.

Yeah I kind of agree with SwedishGuy. We are all (theoretically) adults here, and if you can't control your (the royal you, not you specifically Slash) desire to spew racist slurs or other derogatory statements then go find a place that allows it.

I mean, if you look at those rules, you can honestly say whatever you like, as long as you word it right. It's not hard to use the language to get your point across without resorting to school yard bullcrap.

Well I for one am very concerned about what has been going on lately. I see many more threads locked, and posts deleted.
At this point I will more than likely take my donor money and look for a new site where there is little or no censored topics or posts.
I'm not ready to completely throw in the towel here yet, but definitely won't be around like I have been.

I haven't looked clse but seeing as this forum has its share of trolls I wouldn't be suprised if the closed threads were troll threads. Free speech rules here, but it doesn't extend to trolling and insults. As it should be.

We've discussed that one a few times (and I've certainly been tempted), but we've always decided against it for a couple of reasons. First of all, in my experience on other forums, when you give people a room where they can crack the throttle open all the way, a lot of them have a hard time dialing it back when they come back to the other forums. The rancor bleeds over into the rest of the board, and we're left with the same problems we had before we opened the "flame pit" or whatever we would be calling it. Usually not as bad, but still worse than we would want.

Second, it's a repudiation of our mission statement - we're committed to respectful debate. That's who we are, and we're not interested in becoming more like someone else.

And third, while it's certainly true that we have a lot of good posters who would enjoy it and find it useful, we quite frankly don't want to do anything at all to make the board as a whole more attractive to people who like to insult one another. No offense to you, Slash, because I like you personally and value you as a poster, but if insulting people is that important to someone, we're better off not having them here at all. Because that's usually going to find its way into the tone of their other postings, too. And we'd just rather not have it.

That's just not right. Good idea; that can be written right into Rule #1.

    I disagree...but it's your call.

I actually did post in an unmoderated forum on a gaming website for some 3 years before coming to this website. The un-modded forum there got shut down because a mod there didn't like what was being said in the forum (biased) and decided to close it or whatever. The sub-forum was actually alot better than you'd expect and from what I could tell the conversation stayed in that sub-forum.

I'm of the belief that people who want to post in a forum like that would do so there almost exclusively because they know they can't say the samethings outside of that forum so what reason do they have to leave a sub-forum where they have the most freedom? I for one wouldn't post anywhere else, but that's me...

I wouldn't normally recommend this Bear, but you have the worst Troll infection I have ever seen, and drastic situations call for drastic action.

    You need a "Hit Man"

Someone who has total authority to permaban anyone for any reason, at any time, just because he feels like it.

I say appoint yourself to that position, you seem like a fair Dude to me.

    And just clean house.

I realize that by making this recommendation I may be signing my own death warrant, but if so, then so be it.

I was looking for a forum when I found this one.

Possible cutdown? That crap is going to be hit hard. Trolling, thread derailment, personal attacks - we've got a whole toolbox to apply to those types of threads, and we're going to apply it. We're not going to tolerate that. People who are here primarily for that are going to find out quite quickly that they need to change their approach.

Are you serious? What would possibly be the gain of doing that?

    - - - Updated - - -

Stop it. Wanting common sense rules to be followed isn't intolerance for heaven's sake. And not wanting to fund a pointless arena that will bring down the site's reputation isn't intolerant either.

    Bear,
Where will this point system be located so that Members can review it and be familiar with it ? Will a Member be able to see their actual number of active points ? Thanks.

It all comes down to how it is applied. Personally I doubt it will make any difference, the site has already lost some posters and I think it will continue to do so as long as the Stormfront bunch is allowed to continue to post their "stuff" here. I am going to sit back and just watch for a while and keep my active participation to a bare minimum for now on and see if anything improves here. If nothing changes, as another poster said, I was looking for a new site when I found this one.

Thank you, Perriquine, I don't think any of us thought of that. Let me see what the staff thinks about it.

To eliminate right-wingers, of course. No leftist can win on merit; their arguments are swiss cheese emotionalism. Better to simply do away with those whose skulls have fully hardened.

    What stormfront "stuff."

I see no threads talking about white supremacy. Need I remind you american politics revolves around race.

No one is forcing people to post or even click on threads where the subject involves race. And I'm pretty sure, according to the rules, that those threads won't stop because there are no rules stating race based threads can't be started.

If you can't take the heat then get out of the kitchen in my opinion.

Hi, Stuart. I'll put up the list of infractions and their point values in a little while, but the short version is that most of the infractions have point values of 5 to 10 points - or 20 for a couple of major ones - and lifespans of anywhere from 3 to 6 months. Any time a poster hits 30 points, automatic temp bans start to kick in. The temp bans start out short, and progress up to several months. 50 points is automatic permanent banning. Members will be able to see their point totals by viewing their control panel, or by clicking the "infractions" tab on their profile.
