And yet even another case of a person in a position of trust who used that position of trust to force homosexual sex upon little boys.

Parents need to step it up with respect to scrutinizing who is around their kids. I don't care how "offended" the person gets, it's time to demand background information about Priests...

Philly priest accused of raping altar boy
By Ross Levitt, CNN
(CNN) -- A Philadelphia priest who narrowly escaped prosecution during a recent clergy abuse scandal that rocked the city's archdiocese has been arrested on charges that include raping an altar boy.

In a grand jury presentation in 2005, the Philadelphia District Attorney's office revealed allegations against Father Robert Brennan, now 75, that included more than 20 alleged child sex abuse victims, according to Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams.

All of the cases were beyond the statute of limitations, and Brennan was never charged in that case, Williams said at a press conference Thursday.

That investigation led to the June 2012 child endangerment conviction of Monsignor William Lynn, the vicar of clergy for the diocese. The conviction marked the first time a U.S. church leader has been convicted of such a crime.

Police: Pennsylvania priest caught with pantless 15-year-old

Williams said that Lynn would've faced additional charges in connection with this case but that he avoided prosecution by three months due to the statute of limitations.

Robert Brennan, a Catholic priest, has been arrested on charges that include raping an altar boy.In this new case, Brennan is charged with rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, and aggravated indecent assault in connection with alleged incidents that took place between 1998 and 2001 when the victim was 11 to 14 years old, according to Williams.

The allegations include digital penetration and oral sex.

He was arrested on September 25 in Maryland, according to a statement released by Williams' office.

"A serial abuser is now behind bars thanks to the brave actions of this young man," Williams said, adding that the young man was prompted to report the alleged abuse in the wake of Lynn's conviction.

Marci Hamilton represents the victim, now 26 years old, and two other alleged victims whose cases could not be prosecuted because they were beyond the statute of limitations.

The archdiocese stripped Brennan of most of his duties in September 2005, though he remained a priest.

The diocese said in a statement that Brennan's laicization is in progress with the Holy See, but did not provide a date when that process began or when Brennan would be formally defrocked.

The diocese says it has "cooperated fully" with the current investigation.

Williams commended the diocese for promptly reporting these most recent allegations.

According to a statement released by Williams' office, the victim reported the abuse to the diocese in January 2013 and it was immediately brought to the attention of authorities.

"It takes tremendous courage for any sexual assault victim to come forward and report the horrors he or she endured," the district attorney said.

The rate of rape, pedophilia, etc... amongst priests is not greater than it is amongst: school teachers, rabbi's, athiests, etc... it's just that the media wants to focus on the Catholic Church for ideological reasons. That being said, the cover up by the church deserves scrutiny and negative coverage.

Ya gotta find this standard disingenuous "defense" of the Catholic Church sad and pathetic!

Even if their rate of child rape is "normal" (gee, why would we expect religious people to be any more moral than atheists and school teachers? LIfe has shown me such that I expect dedicated religious people to be FAR LESS moral than atheists and school teachers!)
How many churches PROTECT their child rapist employees, though?

How church leaders spend HUNDREDS of MILLIONS of dollars to provide ongoing legal defense, hiding church records, keeping priest accusations and previous actions SECRET from police, victims and families?

How many churches LIE to parents and victims, claiming their rapist "will NEVER work around children again", and yet have placed that child rapist in a new candy store of innocent victims, FULL WELL KNOWING the man is a serial pedophile?

The list of the Catholic Church's LEADERSHIP'S protection and defense of their pedophiles is ENDLESS!

What do you call an organization that collectively protects these monsters? And WHY should we look to these kind of leader scum for "leadership and guidance" in our world?

I would bet it is true. And a dirty secret of schools is that MANY teachers aren't prosecuted, they are simply forced to resign ; and they move on to other schools because the agreement they make is that everything will be kept quiet.

The teachers' reasoning for this is obvious. the schools' not so much. but here is why. Because of the teachers' unions, teachers are nearly impossible to fire, even in extreme cases, and so if a school is left with a choice between a teacher quietly resigning immediately or placing that teacher on paid leave of absence for a year sometimes before they are either jailed or they are fired they are usually going to pick the easier route.

Give you an example, and just so you know we have very weak teachers' unions here in Arkansas so bear that in mind. A few years back we had a male teacher who slapped a female student in the face in the middle of class. There were 20 plus kids who witnessed this. We of course held an emergency school board meeting that night and were told that we couldn't just fire him unless we wanted to risk legal action. So we had to place him on paid absence while the police did their thing. Six months later he was found guilty of assaulting a student and at that point we had cause to fire him. But for 6 months he collected a paycheck for doing nothing.

We have since changed our policy and all of our employee contracts and we as a school board have the discretion to fire an employee immediately under certain circumstances, but even then you risk a lawsuit.

Now imagine in states like NY where the teachers' union practically runs the educational system.

They very fact that people like you don't know the truth here tell us all a lot about the impact of the left wing media on the populace.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_Jenkins

"In 2002 Jenkins, who is a Catholic-turned-Episcopalian,[8] discussed the Catholic sex abuse cases, asserting that "[his] research of cases over the past 20 years indicates no evidence whatever that Catholic or other celibate clergy are any more likely to be involved in misconduct or abuse than clergy of any other denomination—or indeed, than non-clergy."

Who is Pennsylvania State University Prof. Philip Jenkins that conducted the study? He is an eminent religion and history scholar, and a non-Catholic who’s studied the church’s abuse problems for 20 years.

There is some facts for people, but I know many Liberals will refuse to listen to a non-Catholic academic that studied this because it goes against their religion / left wing beliefs and talking points.

Muslims will kill a person physically, Catholics kill them mentally by abusing and raping.

So the power to fix the problem was ALWAYS in the board's control, but they were too lazy, too stupid, or liked the idea of kids getting assaulted so you never bothered to set up a preocredure.

And yet you blame the teacher's union....

You ALWAYS risk a lawsuit, even getting out of bed in the morning! Its why school systems have a legal department. Don't lie, make sure your factual ducks are in a row, and risks are very low.

This is true in ANY district.

Um what?

We are only able to have that policy because of VERY weak teachers' unions in Arkansas was my point.

But yes, you're correct, we didn't have a policy in place for something that never happened to us before, that was or fault. Not sure I'd call it stupid or lazy though. Easy enough to suggest though if you've never been on a school board I suppose.

That is the opinion of one man who parses definitions. But if you read what he wrote and not some wiki condensation of it you will see:

And this:

http://old.post-gazette.com/forum/comm/20020303edjenk03p6.asp

These are Jenkins own words, he is focusing on trying to lift blame for the Church, to the point of arguing that the media is turning it into pedophilia and it really isn't. That is not my argument. You have failed to prove your assertion and next time don't assume I don't know what I am talking about. I wrote on this in the freaking '90s.

I've no sympathy for pedophiles and am more disgusted when those in positions of trust abuse those positions. We've recently seen the female teacher having sex with a 12 year old boy. We've seen the male teacher who had heterosexual pedophilia with the 14 year old and he got 30 days. Now we have multiple cases of homosexual pedophilia and they can't lock his butt up, what is wrong with this country.

Progressives point out these stories involving homosexual pedophiles because they are against Christianity. However, when a public school teacher does the same thing, progressives downplay the story's significance. There is a member of the board who posts stories involving homosexual pedophiles, and he is routinely accused of being a bigot "obsessed" with gay pedophilia. I find the double standard interesting.

It's certainly troubling that so many homosexual pedophiles rise to the rank of Priest in the Catholic Church. These types go where the kids are. Is it any wonder why people oppose them being boy scout leaders?

Your post is rather contradictory and confusing.

I guess this is why Christians hid and downplay the priests' pedophilia? Christians are FOR it?

The usual significance of the stories priest rape that hit the news are because the Catholic leaders in authority ALLOWED it to happen REPEATEDLY!

What made it a news STORY is about the rapist priest getting defense and support from the Catholic Church.

Well since priests (and teachers) raped LOTS of little girls as well as little boys, this member's sole focus on boy rape and indifference to the girl's plight seems almost to be approval of pedophiles who do little girls.

I find such lack of concern for girl children to be, er, ah, ... "interesting".

Yes, indeed it is troubling that pedophiles who rape children of EITHER sex, although it is not a puzzle. Since the even the TOP leadership of the Catholic Church (few of whom seem to have molested children themselves) has extensively defended, shielded, ignored reports, hidden and retained child rapists it is no surprise such pedophiles continue to advance in the church.

Your OWN indifference to the very significant number of raped girl-victims of priests is "interesting" as well. As if as if you consider it unimportant or not wrong.

EVERYONE opposes pedophiles being boy scout leaders.

But what the Boy Scouts have done is ban homosexuals from helping with the Boy Scouts, as if all homosexuals are pedophiles. As with heterosexuals, only a tiny percentage of homosexuals are pedophiles, and numerically, I will suggest MOST pedophiles work very hard to have a fully heterosexual-looking life regardless of their sexual orientation towards adults, with wives, kids, etc providing over, like Jerry Sandusky did. Further, the authorities around and over him enabled his crimes by ignoring the crimes that had been reported in their "Good Ol' Boys" network. THAT is what needs to end to protect children, not bans on homosexuals.

=====================
Why is THIS priest serial rapist a BIG NEWS STORY!?

Because he HAS BEEN a documented serial pedophile, but escaped prosecution because the Catholic Church had stalled prosecution and hid his crimes long enough for the statute of limitations to run out to prevent criminal conviction! But the Church needs NO criminal conviction to fire EVILDOERS! All the Catholic Church would need is a SENSE OF DECENCY and a CONSCIENCE. It has NEITHER!

So despite KNOWING he raped children, he REMAINED A PRIEST in the Catholic Church! That is why the Catholic Church is a place where EVIL dwells and EVIL festers!

No it's not. You just have trouble understanding it.

Deflection away from progressive hypocrisy.

Public school teachers receive union cover all the time for their crimes. Mark Berndt was paid $40,000 to step down as a teacher, he wasn't fired because the unions don't want teachers being fired, even if they are abusing children. Progressives don't seem upset about this, at all. It has no political benefit for them.

Not his "sole focus", at all. You are mistaken.

I'm not indifferent. I'm simply more interested in the progressive double standard surrounding this issue. Catholic priest raping children = bad. Public school teacher raping children = crickets. The only thing that makes sense is that progressives hate religion, and this story allows them to advance their agenda, whereas a public school teacher story does not.

Do you think a male heterosexual scout leader poses less of a threat to little boys as a male homosexual? I do. The Boy Scouts do. Progressives don't, because it doesn't fit in with their agenda.

What difference does it make whether it is equal to, less than or more than. The abuse of ONE child is too high.

I would never disagree with this point.

The Catholic bashing was my point. They are no different than any other group.... except for the cover ups which are horrible, but the Public School Unions have done similar things with little notice by the media.

The Church must make purging these HOMSEXUAL PEDOPHILES from the midst, a top priority, regardless of the gay guevara attempts to pretend that they "aren't really gay"....

Yes, but priests are deemed to be in positions of trust. They're not supposed to do such things. However there is a shortage of priests. Maybe allowing them to view altar boys as a candy store is a perk which the Church needs to recruit and staff enough priests. No?

There should not, not, NOT be a statute of limitations w/the abuse and rape of children!!!! Because of the shame and fear the kids live with, it often takes YEARS for them to come forward and speak up!

When they do, IF they do, it's the same thing as telling the victims 'tell it to someone who cares! It wasn't my ox being gored!".......

Bastard lawmakers.....:evil::evil:

Everyone of these pedophile priests should be in prison, in general population w/the rest of the perverts.......
