Not that you can explain how this is so.

Now, tell us again how the fact felons, under a 50-year old law, having legal access to $1000 non-firearms is a critical threat to public safety that must be immediately addressed.

-You- suddenly see an issue with a 50-year old law that allows felons to have legal access to a $1000 non-firearm; you believe this is a critical threat to public safety that must be immediately addressed.

    -I- laugh at your desperation.

I see a problem with letting convicted felons have guns.

    You don't

    You mean non-firearms.
The laws are no different now than any time in the last 50 years.
    I laugh at your desperation.

A commonsense alternative? Send those who use a firearm to inflict violence to prison until they are, at least, senior citizens.

    Your turn...

Funny, how I did exactly that, and you have as yet had no response.

    True.

But if you believe the car can fly, and then decide to outlaw cars because of the risk that a driver could fly into a house, you would be similar to those who attribute all kinds of nonsensical thinking to firearms who wish to remove guns from U.S. citizens...

I think I'm a bit more rational and informed than that. I have several rifles, a shotgun, and a revolver. I used to hunt grouse, deer, and elk. And I know a tiny bit about bullet ballistics and calibers. And I used to reload my own bullets. With careful weighing of the powder I found I could shrink groups from about 3 inches in diameter at 100 yards, down to about 1.5 inches.

And I say we need a series of major changes to gun ownership and gun laws and limits on how many guns can be manufactured per year, etc.

Unsupportable, and almost certainly unconstitutional, nonsense.

Rifles that can be used to hunt elk can easily kill a human, and from a remarkable distance for one skilled enough. Handguns can be concealed. And the powder you use for reloads can also be used to harm people.

You do realize that the more strident anti-gun people would take these things away from you?

Perhaps you have a different experience and outlook based on where you live?

In California I've seen firearms become more and more restricted as anti-gun leftists have gained power. While the limit on rounds a firearm may carry, or obtaining a permit to purchase ammo might be inconvenient, much more bothersome is California's Department of Justice having to approve 'safe' firearms before they can be sold in the state. This has evolved from preventing the sale of junk 'Saturday Night Specials' to gun manufactures having to comply with extensive and expensive safety testing (and thus not offering their firearms for sale in the state) to now resulting in California's attempt to only allow new handguns capable of microstamping be available for sale:

    http://www.guns.com/2017/03/23/california-supreme-court-to-hear-microstamping-challenge/

One might look at the actions of these leftists and shrug, but as a lifelong resident who has witnessed the slow, steady purge of firearms it is apparent what the eventual goal is. Heck, our senator Feinstein even has a rather revealing video floating around that admits this.

The way leftists have corrupted the constitution, specifically the judicial branch, it is also apparent that an eventual goal of a SCOTUS decision banning most classes of firearms is how they will do this.

So, yeah, I'm worried. And as I've explained, these antigun nuts are certainly not the outliers in California; they are the mainstream...

Yeah but they aren't going to get anywhere with it. I know that. But sometimes I think some people like to pretend that isn't true so they can rant and rave against gun legislation. Same with the "slippery slope" crap. I won't happen. I'm good with banning assault-style rifles, removable magazines, extended integral magazine capacity, and the various sales loopholes.... and maybe a few other things. I'm even toying with the idea of banning something I've never had and never needed: semi-autos. They can be made fully automatic with a rubber band. If you want good home protection, and pump-action shotgun is better than most anything else.

    I don't know what you're talking about.

I have no problem with any of that

In reality, it is a challenge for the poster to offer support for his statements.

... even though you know you cannot offer a sound argument for doing so...
    More unsupportable nonsense.
The above is a statement of abject ignorance - in virtually every situation where a shotgun us suitable for home defense, an AR carbine in a major pistol caliber is a better choice.

"Common sense" in regards to the firearms issue is quite simple...don't sell a weapon that fulfills the needs of any modern military requirement.

If you want to play "soldier" that badly, enlist. That seems fairly Common Sense to me.

It's actually 25%. Hey...for a conservative gun hugger he was pretty close huh?

And California has solved the issue of what is and what isn't an assault weapon by treating all semi-auto's as assault weapons. Good solution to the intentional "confusion" that gun huggers have tried to create

"A weapon that fulfills the needs of any modern military requirement" isn't currently sold in the U.S., as citizens are not allowed to own, with strict exceptions, rifles that can perform automatic fire.

    Try again...
