Thinking about getting a bridge camera for my girlfriend, to replace her 12 MP Kodak point and shoot compact, which is falling apart. Money is an issue. Can't decide between Canon Powershot SX60 with 16 MP, a small half inch CMOS and huge 65x zoom for around $400. Or, for instance, a Panasonic Lumix FZ1000 with 20 MP, a one inch CMOS and 16x zoom for $600. If she zooms in on a Heron at 200 yards with the Canon 65 zoom, and takes the shot. Will it be clear? If she zooms in on the same bird with the Panasonic 16x zoom, will it be enough of a closeup for a decent shot? Clearly I'm a dunce about these things. I just want to make sure that she is happy and I have not wasted my money. Any insights would be appreciated.
