I am a big time dog person. I grew up around a whole bunch of dogs and actually learned how to train them really well. It was one of the things I did while serving in the Marine Corps as a MP, was working with and training dogs as well. My favorite Breeds are Boxers and Golden Retrievers. I also love Pit Bulls and Boston Terriers. So kind of an eclectic mix but really any dog can be great, its just up to the owners to guide them correctly. So anyways, any and all dog stories are welcome! Would love to hear about anyones favorite breeds and all of that sort of stuff.
Have two...a mutt that walked in the yard one day and never left. And a Golden Retriever that sheds a lot, but his luvin makes up for it.
CKW......Golden Retrievers are awesome. Im looking to get another dog because my dog passed away about a year ago from cancer. I have a 9 and a 2 year old, the 2 year old isnt used to dogs really so ive been looking. A Golden is definitely near the top of the list. I know how to work with all types but Goldens are definitely so amazing with kids. Same with Boxers, although Boxers dont like other dogs too much so that is a concern. Mr. Relevant- Those dogs are BEAUTIFUL!! I really love the white coat on that Beagle that you posted. Just a beautiful dog!
Thats really cool. Props to you for rescuing a dog!! I probably would have done that myself by now with my new dog, my last one was a rescue. But with a 2 year old, I wanna have the dog grow up with her. I live in an apartment so I need the dog to be good with my little one.
Yes, you do need a good dog especially with a youngin' around. Our rescue is a handful, but she's improving every day. When we first got her she was totally nuts. Our other lab lost her brother last year from cancer. That was really sad. But both dogs are getting along with each other now so it's really been gratifying.
Dog lover here. Have four dogs. Dobie, pit mix, queensland healer, cocker. All of them rescue dogs. All great dogs. Wouldn't want to live a day without a dog.
My English Mastiff, Also have Siberian Husky and a Miniature American Eskimo http://www.politicalforum.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=7221&stc=1&d=1321506192
I have a neighbor who has a Queensland Heeler/Chow and Tinker Bell is absolutely beautiful! Black fur w/white streaked thru it. She looks like she went to the beauty shop and got a frost job. Had never seen a Queensland before....... Jim, the owner, teases me about I don't like him, only Tinker.... lol..... Don't have any dogs now and grew up w/dogs & cats - but have had a Cocker Spaniel, Rat Terrier, German Shepherd (Queenie - what a terrific dog and very protective of kids & I) - and a mutt here, a mutt there. A lady have me her dog b/c she couldn't really care for it any longer and found out it was a Tennerife. Cindy was a great family dog.....
I have always been a dog and cat lover and have had many of both kinds. However, I found out many years ago while my kids were still little babies that the only dog I would have around them was a german shepard. The first one I had I got when it was about 6 months old and it immediatly adopted my kids. As far as I am concerned they are a loyal family dog as long as they are treated right and shown love and affection which they will return 10 fold.
Animal lover here. Just placed another abused Weimeraner with a loving family, that leaves me with the two that are 'ours'. We find, foster and place unwanted animals, many of them cats, who are catch, castrate and release. Its getting tougher these days, with some many people losing their homes. It separates the animal lovers from those who take in a dog as a thing, or a toy, just to part with them when life gets a bit bumpy. Its difficult enough to give up a rescue. I can't even imagine giving up a family member, which animals are to me.
All of our animals are abandoned strays. Two were siblings that someone dropped off on a dirt road. We couldn't pass them up. Why would anyone drop off two puppies to have to fend for themselves? Heartless comes to mind.
we have 3 a mutt we got at a shelter who is 80 pounds and a good girl a beagle we rescued-------man do they howl a bulldog- we paid through the teeth for her but we had one, she died and just had to have another. Bulldogs have unique personalities and man oh man are they gassy
My queensland is the same as the one you discribed. Black and white streaks the smartest dog I have ever had. He is getting old (12) I am going to tattoo his ashes in me as a momorial when he dies. I did that with my last dog when she died. She was a coyote/shepard mix and I loved her more than anyone other than my mom.
I love dogs, I like cats. I only have one small dog at this time, but he is a cutie! We adopted him out of rescue center, and he has been with us for almost 9 years. He loves my husband more than me. . .but he is really the happiest when we are both at home, or when both of us take him for his daily walk. He is the 4th Pomeranian we adopted. The first one was stolen from us (he was truly beautiful, a jet black pomeranian!) the two others lived with us until they died of a peaceful death. This one will be with us until he closes his eyes also. . .but he is still very healthy and happy, so I hope we have many years of shared commitment to each other! Here is a picture of Scooby with a Summer cut.
Im really excited to see that there are a lot of people in here who adopt. That is really cool. Dogs are one of those issues that regardless of religion, political party, race, financial status, etc that everyone can just talk about and get along about. Sure the topic of Pit Bulls may get a bit heated every so often but for the most part its just a cool topic. To whoever mentioned Bulldogs.....I would LOVE to own one someday. They are so ugly that they are cute hahaha. Its kinda why I like Boxers as well. They got those ugly chops on their faces, but they are fiercly loyal, they love their family, they are great with kids and yet if a stranger tries coming into the house they WILL have to deal with the Boxer which wont be very much fun for the stranger. I rescued a Boxer when I was still in the Military. Unfortunately he died from Cancer a few years later but god I loved that dog. I dont cry easily but I cried like a baby when I lost that dog. Ever since i've been in love with the breed. So im leaning towards a Boxer, but my 9 year old wants a Golden Retriever. Goldens are amazing as well so its no big deal, they arent good watch dogs. But they are sweethearts. I also love Pit Bulls. My wife made me get rid of a pit that I had adopted when she found out we were pregnant with our second child 3 years ago. My best friend was happy to take her but it broke my heart. She was gonna be put down and had serious dog aggression issues when I found her. From the markings on her body I know she had been in dog fights. Even the humane society people didnt want me to take her at the time but I explained to them my history of training with dogs and working with them and they let me adopt her. Long story short it took a lot of work but she ended up being a great dog. My wife however just wasn't comfortable having a baby around her and so sadly I had to give her up. I knew my friend was also excellent with dogs and so I found her a great home and I still get to see her all the time which is nice. Honestly if anyone is having any issues with your dog, feel free to message me. Im not bragging when I say I am excellent with any number of dog issues. Im no Ceasar Milan or anything (lol) but seriously we all have our own gifts and working with dogs is a gift of mine that I am truly grateful for. So feel free to IM me or whatever. Once I get my new puppy ill definitely post some pictures.
