Everyone knows what the 'wipe Israel etc' statements mean. Some are not honest about the intent and meaning. By some I mean most usual suspects in the world and all usual suspects at PF lie to defend Ahmadinejad's whacky death to JEWS* rants. (that is what he means and everyone knows it, even you). Israel isn't going anywhere, everyone knows that too! Lol. Maybe the new prez won't be the Joe Biden of Iran, lets hope the new leader of Iran will be reasonable and avert WW3 by abiding by the worlds demands they stop the nuke crap. If not ....well Iran will be wiped off the map when they try to nuke Israel.

But as my post at #117 makes clear, your "confirmation" means zilch since it is a strawman. Do at least TRY to keep up

Since 'Israel' is the last bit of the racist Third Reich in existence, and since its Maximalist scum were not only the murderers of so many British troops but the intellectual forebears of the current Fuhrer, it is surely surprising that a major British institution should be supporting these child-killers? The reason anything is the UK is pro-'Israel' is that it is essentially an American colony.

I agree he HAS never denied the Holocaust. Perhaps you would be kind enough to pass the message on to your fellow pro-Israeli warmongering propagandists.

As for the "wiped off the map" thing, the Iranian broadcasters made the initial translating error that was subsequently regurgitated by the Western media. I pointed this out in post 117. So I'm not sure what the purpose of your strawman is other than to perpetuate misinformation.

Following the correction of the mistranslation, it is clear that the former Iranian president didn't intend the "death of Israel". Context is all-important and you have failed miserably to take the context of his statement into account.

If, during WW2, I had desired the death of Nazism as an ideology, it wouldn't mean the death of Germany along with its people. Similarly, Ahmadinejad's comment didn't relate to the death of Israel as a country or its people but the the death of (neo)Zionism as an ideology. His comment must be seen in that context.

The correct translation as outlined in post 117 makes that absolutely clear. There is no confusion or contradiction. People like you keep flogging this dead horse because you have a partisan agenda that you continue to promote despite the fact that it has been debunked time and time again.

Nonsense. Even Putin disagrees with you. Here is what he said less than a week ago:

"12 Jun 2013: And when we hear threats from Iran against its neighbours, particularly Israel, when we hear from Iran that Israel must be destroyed - I think this is completely unacceptable."
    http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/world/iran-threats-against/707036.html

Do you seriously think no one has told Putin that all those thousands of threats were erroneously translated? LOL Lest we forget that the translation you were referring to stayed on the official Iranian website for at least 5 years, that Ahamdinejad was videotaped at a rally screaming "Death to Israel" at the top of his lungs.... Pretty lame, trout.

I guess no one has bothered telling Ahadinejad's buddy Putin that all those thousands of threats were mistranslated, right? You and Juan Cole are the only people in the know, the leaders of Europe, the Americas, Asia, Russia, Africa have not been briefed by you two yet LOL

I'm sure all political leaders don't need to be briefed, they know better than to swallow distortions + the Jewish Lobby's pro-Israel versions of what was said.

    Feb 2013 :

"Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said his nation has no interest in attacking Israel and reached out to Egypt with an offer of aid amid that nation’s economic troubles, the state-run al-Ahram newspaper reported today.

Ahmadinejad, who arrived yesterday in Cairo for an Islamic summit in a trip marking the first to Egypt by an Iranian leader since 1979, said “Zionists,” his standard reference to Israel, “very much want to strike Iran, and we haven’t until now given, and will not give, them this chance,” the newspaper cited him as saying. “They are well aware of our Iranian defensive capabilities.”

    http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-...sn-t-looking-to-attack-israel-ahram-says.html

But Rabbi Yisroel Weiss + other Rabbis would certainly wish to wipe the Zionist state off the map :

    Israel should NOT exist.

He, I and others are pro Israel in that we support the continued existance of Israel, just as we support the continued existance of all nations. Impartial in that we recognize the right of all states to continued existance. While you are opposed to Israels continued existance while supporting other nations right to exist, BIASED against Israel.

That obviously does not apply to the leader of Russia (see his recent quote in my previous post), leaders of Europe, America, Asia, representatives of the UN etc....all of them are convinced that Iran has repeatedly threatened Israel with annihilation (see Putin's quote in my previous post again;) ). It's just a small but loud number of fringe Israel obsessed international lunatics who claim that Iran has never threatened Israel with annihilation...while Israel's annihilation is their pipe dream.

    Nor have Iranians

A prospective Iranian presidential candidate issued strong criticism of his country's foreign policy Wednesday, saying President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's denial of the Holocaust has caused the Islamic Republic significant damage.

What "thousands" of threats are you talking about, propaganda sponge? The RELEVANT statement in question IS WHAT IT IS. It was wrongly translated and hence Ahmadinejad's position has been misrepresented by fools eager to pounce on the mistranslation for propaganda purposes.

Even if it was the case there was no official state correction, as you suggest, it's another one of your strawmen since all that matters is the wider truth:

The "wiped of the map" translation originated from the state-controlled Islamic Republic News Agency.[79] This translation's use in the media has been criticized.[80] Arash Norouzi, artist and co-founder of The Mossadegh Project, says the statement "wiped off the map" did not exist in the original speech and that Ahmadinejad directed his comment toward the "regime occupying Jerusalem". Norouzi's translation of the Persian quote reads; "the Imam said this regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time."[81] Juan Cole, historian of the Middle East and South Asia, concurs; Ahmadinejad's statement should be translated as, "the Imam said that this regime occupying Jerusalem (een rezhim-e eshghalgar-e qods) must [vanish from] the page of time (bayad az safheh-ye ruzgar mahv shavad)," noting that there is no Persian idiom to wipe something off the map.[82] Shiraz Dossa, a professor of Political Science at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia, Canada, also believes the text is a mistranslation.[83]

Ahmadinejad was quoting the Ayatollah Khomeini in the specific speech under discussion: what he said was that "the occupation regime over Jerusalem should vanish from the page of time." No state action is envisaged in this lament; it denotes a spiritual wish, whereas the erroneous translation – "wipe Israel off the map" – suggests a military threat. There is a huge chasm between the correct and the incorrect translations. The notion that Iran can "wipe out" U.S.-backed, nuclear-armed Israel is ludicrous.[84][85][86]

The Guardian columnist and foreign correspondent Jonathan Steele published an article based on this line of reasoning.[87]

Iranian government sources denied that Ahmadinejad issued any sort of threat. On 20 February 2006, Iran's foreign minister Manouchehr Mottaki told a news conference: "How is it possible to remove a country from the map? He is talking about the regime. We do not recognize this regime legally."[90][91][92] Ahmadinejad himself stated that Iran is not a threat to any country, including Israel.[93]

Are you trying to tell us that Putin (together with pretty much all other world/international leaders) are fools pouncing on mistranlation for propaganda purposes? But they won't fool you and Juan Cole I suppose.LOL

    - - - Updated - - -

Are you saying that the quote was mistranslated and now 10 years later Putin and the rest of the world leaders are still not aware of the mistake? Are you for real trout or just having a particularly bad day? ;)

Can you people argue with a straight face that after the regime occupying Jerusalem has vanished from the pages of time according to Irans wishes, that maps would still label the area "Israel"? IRIB translated it as "Israel" because Ahmadinejad never used the term "Israel" and would instead always refer to the regime occupying Jerusalem when speaking of Israel.

uuuuuuuhhhhh by printing "Palestine" instead of "Israel" on the maps after the regime has vanished from the pages of time(and maps). Much as the Arabs in Palestine did in 1948 and ever since.

    THE ACTUAL QUOTE:

So what did Ahmadinejad actually say? To quote his exact words in farsi: "Imam ghoft een rezhim-e ishghalgar-e qods bayad az safheh-ye ruzgar mahv shavad."

That passage will mean nothing to most people, but one word might ring a bell: rezhim-e. It is the word "Regime", pronounced just like the English word with an extra "eh" sound at the end. Ahmadinejad did not refer to Israel the country or Israel the land mass, but the Israeli regime. This is a vastly significant distinction, as one cannot wipe a regime off the map. Ahmadinejad does not even refer to Israel by name, he instead uses the specific phrase "rezhim-e ishghalgar-e qods" (regime occupying Jerusalem).

So this raises the question.. what exactly did he want "wiped from the map"? The answer is: nothing. That's because the word "map" was never used. The Persian word for map, "nagsheh", is not contained anywhere in his original farsi quote, or, for that matter, anywhere in his entire speech. Nor was the western phrase "wipe out" ever said. Yet we are led to believe that Iran's President threatened to "wipe Israel off the map", despite never having uttered the words "map", "wipe out" or even "Israel".

    THE PROOF:

The full quote translated directly to English:

"The Imam said this regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time".

    Word by word translation:

Imam (Khomeini) ghoft (said) een (this) rezhim-e (regime) ishghalgar-e (occupying) qods (Jerusalem) bayad (must) az safheh-ye ruzgar (from page of time) mahv shavad (vanish from).

Here is the full transcript of the speech in farsi, archived on Ahmadinejad's web site
    http://www.president.ir/farsi/ahmadi...4sahyonizm.htm

    THE SPEECH AND CONTEXT:

While the false "wiped off the map" extract has been repeated infinitely without verification, Ahmadinejad's actual speech itself has been almost entirely ignored. Given the importance placed on the "map" comment, it would be sensible to present his words in their full context to get a fuller understanding of his position. In fact, by looking at the entire speech, there is a clear, logical trajectory leading up to his call for a "world without Zionism". One may disagree with his reasoning, but critical appraisals are infeasible without first knowing what that reasoning is.

In his speech, Ahmadinejad declares that Zionism is the West's apparatus of political oppression against Muslims. He says the "Zionist regime" was imposed on the Islamic world as a strategic bridgehead to ensure domination of the region and its assets. Palestine, he insists, is the frontline of the Islamic world's struggle with American hegemony, and its fate will have repercussions for the entire Middle East.

Ahmadinejad acknowledges that the removal of America's powerful grip on the region via the Zionists may seem unimaginable to some, but reminds the audience that, as Khomeini predicted, other seemingly invincible empires have disappeared and now only exist in history books. He then proceeds to list three such regimes that have collapsed, crumbled or vanished, all within the last 30 years:

    (1) The Shah of Iran- the U.S. installed monarch

    (2) The Soviet Union

    (3) Iran's former arch-enemy, Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein

In the first and third examples, Ahmadinejad prefaces their mention with Khomeini's own words foretelling that individual regime's demise. He concludes by referring to Khomeini's unfulfilled wish: "The Imam said this regime occupying Jerusalem must vanish from the page of time. This statement is very wise". This is the passage that has been isolated, twisted and distorted so famously. By measure of comparison, Ahmadinejad would seem to be calling for regime change, not war.

    THE ORIGIN:

One may wonder: where did this false interpretation originate? Who is responsible for the translation that has sparked such worldwide controversy? The answer is surprising.

The inflammatory "wiped off the map" quote was first disseminated not by Iran's enemies, but by Iran itself. The Islamic Republic News Agency, Iran's official propaganda arm, used this phrasing in the English version of some of their news releases covering the World Without Zionism conference. International media including the BBC, Al Jazeera, Time magazine and countless others picked up the IRNA quote and made headlines out of it without verifying its accuracy, and rarely referring to the source. Iran's Foreign Minister soon attempted to clarify the statement, but the quote had a life of its own. Though the IRNA wording was inaccurate and misleading, the media assumed it was true, and besides, it made great copy.

Amid heated wrangling over Iran's nuclear program, and months of continuous, unfounded accusations against Iran in an attempt to rally support for preemptive strikes against the country, the imperialists had just been handed the perfect raison d'ĂȘtre to invade. To the war hawks, it was a gift from the skies.

It should be noted that in other references to the conference, the IRNA's translation changed. For instance, "map" was replaced with "earth". In some articles it was "The Qods occupier regime should be eliminated from the surface of earth", or the similar "The Qods occupying regime must be eliminated from the surface of earth". The inconsistency of the IRNA's translation should be evidence enough of the unreliability of the source, particularly when transcribing their news from Farsi into the English language.

Right, trout... How is it possible to remove the Israeli "regime" (which is a democratically elected government of Israel) without annihilating its entire military (which includes the entire population of Israel), the police, all its institutions, organizations, infrastructure in an all-out war? Do you seriously think this childish hair-splitting semantic nonsense is fooling anyone?
