I'm not saying all of them are, and I'm pretty sure most of them just don't care, but I couldn't help notice that amongst the PF european members, the overwhelming majority seems to equip a pair of pinky eyes whenever they are discussion matters regarding America.

I believe they have every reason to. After all, the US of A has always been the prettiest cheerleader of them all. I mean historically, America saved the entire european for not just once, but thrice (WW1, WW2 and cold war). America got to shape europe in her own image. America kicked the butt of Germany then told it to shut-up and do as told. If I were an european and I were been pushed around on how to run my business, I'd be pretty grumpy too.

American gets all the good stuff. The most kickass institution of high-learning? In the states. The most kickass tech firms? All in the states. The most... well if you think about it the best of virtually everything is in the states.

I can see, quite clearly the unhealthy side of those envy-ers, I mean on the surface average American are stupid and ignorant and carefree, while european countries in general, countries like Sweden, Germany and Netherlands in particular, are far better educated, but America is still kicking and taking. So they are having a hard time finding the psychological balance and are trying to bamboozle America into doing the stupid things that they are stupid enough to do, like adopting the welfare state systems that breeds slackers.

I just wanna say this: America ain't gonna fell for that, so good luck.

I'd rather live in America and vacation in Europe than live in Europe and vacation in America.

Most of the terrorist attacks and the overwhelming presence of Sharia Law is indeed in Europe. You sure you don't want to change your mind for your own safety?

Europeans are jealous of America's sole superpower status and many of its intellectuals are jealous of the global pervasiveness of American popular culture. As for things like economic policy, health care, working conditions or levels of racial harmony, most Europeans tend to think the USA is still inferior.

And we get that influence by bankrupting our nation with ostentatiously unnecessary military spending, then have the party championing that spending claiming that our country is going bankrupt because the other party wants to spend resources on education and infrastructure...

Dave military spending is 20% of the budget. Another 10 to 15% is infrastructure. The rest of it - 65 to 70% - is some sort of social spending only about 20% of which is corporate welfare. So please tell me how the military is breaking the bank.

Well, it was the same in the USSR under Stalin - the brainwashed peasants KNEW they were in the best place. America made a good profit out of the war and had to invest in Europe to keep it. I think that most Europeans are just baffled and contemptuous at what a squalid shambles has taken the place of a country they admired, since you ask.

A more correct assessment would be that our warfare-state is what is "breaking the bank".

I'll go ahead and wait for you to source these numbers; how many times does it need to be said that your opinion means nothing without sources?

Yes, we're envious of your warmongering, your dysfunctional healthcare system, your appalling record of fiscal ineptitude, your infantile obsession with guns and the subsequent breathtaking murder rate, your absurd nationalist posturing.
So tell me, please, what exactly I'm accused of being envious of?
To be frank, and as another poster observed, most people really don't pay America much attention unless what you do affects us directly-like your recent Wall Street meltdown via the Mae/Mac scandal. We certainly don't sit around, awestruck, wishing we could be as fabulous as America.

Just a point on education; of the top 10 university world rankings, 5 are British and the rest are American. I wouldn't place too much faith in the figures as gospel, or as indicating anything other than a generalised opinion, frankly. I mean we have MIT shown first, with Cambridge following. If I were a student wanting a course which Cambridge offers but MIT does not, then for me Cambridge would be 'best'. Of course the converse must also be true, but in general the rankings are probably about right.

If you spend all your money on gunmen and jails, that is likely. Are you the better, however, for being brainwashed serfs?

They live more like kings than serfs - the only way in which they're brainwashed is that they think their life is anywhere comparable to that of an actual serf, while they sit on their ass playing Xbox and collecting food stamps.

I said the best are in the US of A. I didn't say all the top.

And ranking based on what? Were it engineering, Cambridge wouldn't even in that top 10.

Not to mention biology. Before American scholar visited, the Cambridge eggheads didn't even know what Golgi apparatus is, according to Richard Dawkins, then a professor at Cambridge.

They're not just jealous of our prestige, but they are also afraid of our power. Quite a few of them exposed that about themselves rather clearly in my "what should we do without guns" thread. Their "morally superior" answer was to just cower and surrender. People who fear power will seek to nag, guilt, and shame others into disarming themselves out of fear and a subconscious realization that they cannot overpower such people. Since they perceive them as a threat and have no other recourse.

Europe is a sad and pathetic place today. Once a great land full of mighty empires. Today reduced to nothing more than a collection of flaccid, fading cultures. Ripe for the conquering by more virile and dominant ones. Perhaps from the middle east.
