Sure it's news worthy. Just like every killing is news worthy, every storm, every bit anything that can effect people...It may not effect your or me directly but that does not mean it does not effect everyone. Best to realize that the news isn't based on the effect it may have on one or two,or even a dozen specific people, but rather as many people as possible..

Wildfires are a naturally occurring phenomena in these areas, to some extent people need to accept that.

Instead, the public often tries to lay all the blame on a single person who was unlucky enough to have accidentally started the fire. With all that dry brush laying around, a fire was inevitable. It was only a matter of time before something started the fire.

In a lot of cases, the fact that we put out or contain those fires causes next year's fires. Sometimes you either have to let them burn or do some actual clearing beforehand.

California in large part is desert and even the forested areas are prone to drought and fire. The environment has adjusted to this with fire resistant species of long lived trees and the desert areas are cleansed by regularly occurring fires. Enter European man. We have built towns and homes in areas that are supposed to burn regularly but in our quest to protect what we have built we stop fires as soon as they start. This has gone on a hundred years now and someday nature balances things out as the fuel load grows and then you have these catastrophic unstoppable fires that we are witnessing. Add to that past high grade logging practices where fire resistant old growth ponderosa pine was removed and been replaced by fast growing fir trees that were not allowed to burn up in small fires as nature intended and someday you pay the Piper.

They won't clear the brush. Pure folly, and just a local story.

They either need to start building some fire resistant housing (underground, concrete, etc.) or get smart and move elsewhere. Do we tolerate people rebuilding in the same flood zone year after year, or do the insurance companies tell them to move or forego coverage? Same thing, but in California, land of make believe, the believe they can make nature comply with their terms. Nature is having non of it!

So, rebuild if you must, but get smart and do it underground. Then, you won't even need to leave home when the fire comes, you're already sheltered.

So at what point does Gov. Brown declare a states emergency and begin evacuating his citizens? The death toll is staggering ... 36 confirmed dead, and more than 400 missing. In contrast, Puerto Rico saw 45 deaths as a result of the hurricane that devastated the entire island. Puerto Ricans didn't have the luxury of evacuating en masse ahead of the disaster, but California isn't an island. Sanctuary state? Hardly. Maxine Waters needs to impeach Jerry Brown ...
